After sending Diane a quick message telling her to get some rest, I switched off my phone completely. My eyes drifted shut, but sleep remained stubbornly out of reach as I twisted restlessly between the sheets.
Soren's sudden return home left me puzzled. Given Madge's possessive nature, she would have moved heaven and earth to keep him by her side. Yet here he was, back under the same roof as me.
The thing about indifference is that it shields you from heartbreak.
That's why watching Soren with Madge hadn't shattered me into pieces.
But I had caught something flickering in those striking eyes of his - jealousy mixed with barely contained fury.
The more I mulled it over, the clearer it became. This was nothing more than wounded male pride.
Cobb had been exactly the same way, territorial about my interactions with other men despite never truly caring for me.
