They say ten fingers connect to the heart, but when that needle pierced my fingertip, the pain felt surprisingly distant.
Christina hadn't betrayed me after all. The wine she'd poured contained no drugs.
But Ivana had been foolish enough to coat herself with knockout powder as backup. She hadn't anticipated that the substance would drive an already intoxicated man into a frenzy, awakening his most primal instincts.
I discovered this through the listening device Diana had planted beneath her purse.
When I failed to return after an extended absence, Christina grew concerned for my safety. She confessed to Soren about Ivana's threats against her.
Diana eventually shared what she'd overheard, though she'd chosen to delay her revelation.
"Dahlia, has Ivana completely lost her mind?" Christina whispered beside me.
"Does it matter whether she has or hasn't?" I replied with a cold smile.
