Dahlia's POV
"Mr. Swain, are you heading back to the city? Could I catch a ride with you?" I gazed at Dick with desperate eyes as he sat rigidly in his car.
Dick's cold stare swept over me. After what felt like an eternity of consideration, he spoke with measured precision. "There's only room for one additional passenger. Take the front seat."
"Thank you," I breathed out quickly.
"Dahlia." Lorena's voice carried deep concern as she stepped closer.
"I have an emergency I need to handle," I explained, avoiding her searching gaze.
"But you're hurt. What's really going on?" Lorena pressed, her worry evident.
Lorena grasped my hand tightly. Her flawless features were etched with confusion, though she could clearly sense the turmoil radiating from my every movement.
"I'm perfectly fine. Please don't worry about me. I'll contact you once I'm home safely." The weight of unspoken truths pressed heavily on my chest.
