Elena's POV
I shook my head and forced a brittle smile across my lips while locking eyes with Louis deliberately.
"My mother was the one who brought me up. My father passed away before I came into this world," I stated clearly.
Louis went still for a moment, something flickering behind his eyes before he released a heavy breath. "What a tragedy. He could never have imagined his daughter would grow into such a stunning woman."
Right, he never bothered to imagine all the hell his daughter endured to reach this point, from the moment she drew her first breath until now. Not to mention the countless nights I wished him dead, I thought bitterly.
If he had actually died, nobody would have branded me a bastard child or called me fatherless.
Nobody would have hurled rocks at my head either.
Those cruel children wouldn't have grabbed scissors and hacked off chunks of my hair simply because they envied my appearance.
