Kurt had decided to visit Sara in Mary's well, having slide from Layla's, he realized the effects of it required a certain level of proximity to the main well, so he couldn't accomplish the task from his house. He was getting bored of making more potions and had eventually been able to restock everyone, almost every goblin had recovered. Beyond that a few new ones, that seemed slightly but not much younger started popping up the first of the brood were starting to emerge.
This was great for Sara as there weren't enough of them before to man two bases, but now it seemed that would start to be a lot easier. Kurt was still waiting to see Carla again as well, having promised to introduce Susan to her when she was ready.
Sara's Duchery, as she called it, needed to surround the center of the wells heart. A keep with room
For her a few other guard houses. Sara wasn't paying much attention to it, she was paying attention to the walls, Kurt was wondering why until a Tree suddenly moved directly into place next the wall. Sara was actually making the wall.
"Why do all this?" said Kurt.
"What do you mean you saw those things right, what if there are more, or something even worse."
"You know it's hard to even get in here right, I would think the basic weird forest thing would be enough."
"We got in here though easy enough."
"I guess that's true, and I guess you needed a hobby, not what I was expecting."
"So what are you doing here anyway?"
"I dunno know, a little bored really."
"And you thought coming to annoy me would solve that."
"It is currently working actually.," Kurt smiled back.
"Okay, I know I'm more spooked about the whole thing than I should be but, Kurt, it's not just the stop on this side."
"I think we have most of that worked out don't we?"
"You really just think we can do all that without someone noticing, and getting upset about their little monopoly being broken."
"What can they do? It's not like they can raid cities without responses, sure if we were stealing they might have some legitimacy."
"That is a little naive I think, but not just the clans, you think Carl doesn't have competition? Or that there isn't some gang out there with enough people to raid us."
"Bandit, raid, Goblins will love it though."
"You know what I mean, I think we may have jumped before we really looked here."
"I sort of feel like we kept getting pushed one direction or another until just recently actually, can't we enjoy it, the peace, I got to take a ride with Layla to the next town tomorrow."
"Honestly, I sort of am enjoying this, learning to use the magic is actually really rewarding on top of making the defensive position. and seeing the wall process and everything. Gives me a little peace like at least I'm not standing by waiting for the next thing to happen. Maybe you should get a little practice in too. Layla said she had a place in mind after I'm done with this, I don't know much about it."
"Probably something for the goblins"
"Probably, speaking of things for the goblins what this healing paste or whatever, the goblins seem amazed by it, at least the ones here."
"Something I was working on with Joe, ended up being pretty effectful, and the best part is as far as I can tell the batch I made three weeks ago, is still at full power, except the one in the bag that seems like half or something."
"How can you tell? Are you cutting yourself?"
"No I have this thing with my eyes, like I push mana to it I see things sort of glow, remember the mana stone?"
"Ohh yeah, I do remember that."
"It's honestly not very useful most of the time, just because it glows doesn't really tell me much. There is an intensity but even that is hard to determine. But it really helped with the potion, as a lot of the first one just went out almost immediately."
"But you seem to Bering the hand of these golems."
"These aren't really golems, I'm basically just moving the tree, I can make one, not as big as the one you saw, the small one I have the easiest time."
"Why not as big?"
"For a couple of reasons, for one I had all this power saved up from removing the roots from cliff faces, and Mary was really helping out when it finally happened."
"But Mary wasn't there."
"You know how they can supercharge the powers and stuff you must have by now?"
"What do you mean supercharge?"
"Wait, you're telling me that all that was just you?"
"Well yeah, there was this weird feeling at the end of the Horror Rabbit, but I don't think it was Layla, though she did appear at the end too, so maybe that's what it was. I'd honestly have to ask her. But my gut says no."
"Kurt, that doesn't make sense, you're so strong, I've seen it. I saw more of that battle than I think you're aware of. You run as fast as one of the mounts Kurt."
"It's just how my power works, you might have the wrong idea about what is really happening, it takes a lot of concentration. And it's more power based than any of yours. And I did practice a lot."
"I don't think so Kurt. The clans, their powers are like multiplied by having multiple powers, you only have one. You never even drank from the spring yet."
"This is just your first power, remember, my first one was way weaker, maybe Mary's well is set up differently or something, like we don't have this huge illusionary forest thing around us at the Pillar, maybe that affects your power's strength as well. As there are a lot of similarities. We really don't actually know all that much about it when you think about it."
"I think you're just making that up."
"I guess I am, makes sense though, right?
"A little, but still Kurt, you still seem way stronger than you should be, like I haven't seen you get exhausted, like ever. You carried me pretty far too Kurt. I thought we were going to stop at some point, just to give you a rest."
Kurt thought about it, and she was mostly right, he hadn't really been exhausted except for during the battle with the rabbit, and I think everyone would be after that. He remembered the first time he met Layla she had done something back then that reinvigorated his power, and that was before she even had a well. The two continued to talk about this and that, Kurt found himself watching the gnomes build the Duchery with some help from the goblins, and Sara moving the trees to make the wall.
