The medical team didn't show any signs of tension in this situation. Instead, they skillfully brought out the medicine to promote to these people. After listening to the effects and efficacy of the drugs, those people silently pulled out money from their pockets, exchanged it for the medicine, and then silently left. Throughout, these people never spoke a single word.
"Aren't you surprised?" A voice came from behind Kanna as she secretly peered through the curtain at the strangely dressed people.
She turned to see Medical Operator J.A. She was the doctor who had chattered with Cerberus the first time they met, and later became her attending physician. This time, she was temporarily seconded to accompany Outcast and serve as one of the visible personnel covering her covert arrangements.
Kanna nodded.
"The environment for the Infected is much worse than what you see or imagine. Perhaps you've been on Rhodes Island for too long, so you haven't experienced that kind of prejudice.
Mobile medical teams like ours, who treat the Infected, can only ever operate in remote areas of various towns, and we are subjected to very high taxes.
This situation, even as it is, is the best working environment I've encountered in my years of working outside.
And those Infected, do you think they don't want to come here during the day to buy medicine?
Do they not want to haggle over the price of medicine? It's because they don't dare and can't. They don't
dare to make a sound, lest they be heard by someone familiar and then be discovered as Infected or having Infected family members.
They can't haggle, fearing we might refuse to sell them medicine. You must understand that these medicines could save their lives.
This is the plight of the Infected in these small towns.
Once they are discovered as Infected, they are either driven out into the wilderness to fend for themselves, or they are captured by the lord to work as miners. Those who manage to escape to Infected communities in large cities are those with enough luck and exceptional strength; otherwise, this land would easily devour them completely."
While Outcast was still studying the action plan under the lamp, J.A.'s low, hoarse voice etched the plight of the Infected into Kanna's heart through simple words.
At this moment, she somewhat understood why Reunion could rise like a prairie fire, and why Mephisto's bloody and terrifying actions could still be accepted by other Infected.
Victoria's attitude towards the Infected was not considered too bad among various countries. If the oppression and discrimination suffered by the Infected were this terrifying, then what kind of oppression and treatment did those people receive in Ursus, that nightmare land for the Infected?
Thinking this way, their bloody revenge against normal people became somewhat understandable.
While silently selling medicine outside, Outcast finally completed her puzzle.
"Kanna, can I trust you?" Outcast looked up and asked.
"Of course, Grandma, you can always trust Kanna." Hearing Outcast call her name, Kanna immediately puffed out her chest and stood forward with a "serious" expression.
Outcast saw Kanna's appearance, and a slight smile appeared on her tired face.
"Very good. According to intelligence, a supply vehicle will depart from the town tomorrow morning, heading to the target estate. I need you to find a way to sneak into the vehicle, and then, upon receiving my signal, cause destruction within their estate. Make as much noise as possible, and be sure to draw this fellow and all his guards to you. Afterwards, you can choose to attack, retreat, or kite them based on your situation. Grandma trusts your strength; in a head-on confrontation, they will certainly not be your match, but you must prioritize your own safety. If you detect danger, you must retreat immediately."
After the tests and training of the previous period, Outcast had a good understanding of Kanna's strength.
Most battles that seemed very thrilling or dangerous were just ordinary play in Kanna's eyes, just like her daily sparring with Rosmontis. If other Operators were to train like that, they would be half-dead if not outright dead after one session, yet she and Rosmontis did it every day.
So, Outcast was not only unafraid that Kanna couldn't complete the mission, but she was worried that she would get too carried away, causing the team to attract the attention of Victoria's higher-ups.
"Mission accomplished!" Speaking of which, ever since last time, the system seemed to have stalled. It hadn't produced a new mission for so long. Was it because the reward from the last mission was too powerful, causing the system to crash?
However, Kanna felt no pressure about this. With her current strength, even if she were to go to Chernobog immediately and engage in a firefight with Reunion, she was confident she could confront Black Snake and Patriot head-on and retreat unscathed.
Under the cover of night, led by an Operator, Kanna stealthily approached the target vehicle.
"According to previous reconnaissance, there are two people in the cab, the driver and co-driver. The cargo compartment in the back will not have anyone guarding it, but someone will perform a final check of the cargo compartment before departure. There will also be an armored vehicle to escort the truck, to protect it along the way. So, your best time to infiltrate is after they finish their check, using your 'whoosh' move to fly inside."
The Operator pointed to a truck and an armored vehicle not far away and said to Kanna.
Kanna nodded, indicating she understood what the other person meant.
"When do they depart?"
"Based on the previous two times, it's early tomorrow morning. Because the estate is some distance from the town, if the truck leaves too late, it will be dark by the time they reach the estate and return. If they want to return by afternoon, they must leave at first light in the morning." This Operator had already traveled back and forth between the town and the estate several times, so she was very clear about the distance and their departure times.
"Kanna, why don't you lie down here for a bit? I'll watch the convoy for you, and I'll wake you when it's almost dawn?" Seeing Kanna staring at the convoy's direction with wide, unmoving eyes, the Operator quietly asked.
"Okay, I'll leave it to you then!" Thinking that she probably wouldn't have a chance to sleep during the day tomorrow, and not knowing when Outcast would send her a message, she decided to get some more sleep now. This way, she wouldn't accidentally doze off in the car tomorrow. If she were detected, her reputation as a master infiltrator would be ruined.
In the morning, Kanna vaguely heard a honking sound.
Opening her eyes, she saw the Operator carefully observing the convoy. Seeing Kanna awake, she smiled and nodded.
"You're awake, good. I was just about to call you anyway. According to the intel gathered from our previous observations and the information we've managed to acquire, they're set to depart in about half an hour. You can start preparing; after all, the rest of the journey is up to you."
