Deep within the swamp stood a long-abandoned astronomical observatory.
Years of neglect had allowed the swamp to erode its outer structure.
The walls were warped, the metal rusted, and the entire facility looked more like an ancient ruin than a scientific station.
Yet despite its decay—
The main gate was tightly sealed, and every window had been crudely covered with layers of old newspapers.
Bang!
The moment XLR8 dashed up to the observatory, a pink flash erupted, and the transformation was canceled.
Ethen appeared, hands clasped behind his back. He didn't rush inside.
Instead, he waited calmly outside the door.
"Ding, congratulations to the host for completing the mission!"
"The host has received 20 reward points!"
The reward arrived quietly as expected.
Whoosh!
Ben Tennyson landed on his hoverboard, gripping it tightly, his expression serious.
"Ethen… someone's definitely here," Ben said.
"I think this guy is the one who orchestrated everything."
Gwen landed beside them, her staff resting against her shoulder.
"And whoever it is," she said coldly, "they're the one controlling the swamp monsters."
As the three spoke—
"You may come in now."
A cold, unhinged voice echoed from behind the door.
"My old friends."
Ethen paused briefly, then stepped forward and pushed the heavy door open.
Inside stood a man with white hair, a gaunt, sickly complexion, and eyes filled with obsession.
Both of his arms had been grotesquely modified into steel gorilla-like mechanical limbs.
He raised them slowly, manipulating the massive astronomical telescope behind him.
Looking closer—
The telescope's base was engraved with glowing DNA patterns, and beneath it sat a grotesque DNA cultivation chamber, humming softly.
"Dr. Animo."
Ethen's eyes sharpened instantly.
He raised his hand, and the prototype tool hoverboard reshaped itself into a long, heavy blade.
"Calm yourself," Dr. Animo said, his lips curling into a twisted smile.
"You look young… almost naïve. Quite different from the terrifying alien that defeated me last time."
"You didn't go through all this just to chat," Ethen replied coldly.
"Don't rush, boy." Dr. Animo laughed darkly.
"After my defeat, I was dragged into court and charged with countless crimes. But with a little money, a cooperative lawyer, and a conveniently forged psychiatric evaluation…"
He spread his metal arms proudly.
"I walked free on bail."
Gwen's expression darkened, "…Did you actually pay your lawyer?"
"What lawyer fees?" Animo scoffed.
"I paid him to forge the report."
Gwen blinked, "…That might not have been a bribe. And the evaluation might not have been forged."
Animo snarled, "Enough nonsense!"
He slammed his metal fists together.
"Just a few more minutes, and I'll finish modulating the DNA! Then you'll transform— and fight my creation!"
"We can transform right now," Ethen said calmly.
"Don't try to fool me!" Animo's eyes widened with mania.
"Such low-level tricks won't work on a genius! I will prove one thing today— that I can create life forms greater than alien heroes!"
To surpass aliens.
To surpass nature.
To prove his worth.
Dr. Animo was completely insane.
Ethen tightened his grip on the blade.
Gwen raised her staff.
Even without transforming, both of them were dangerous.
Then—
Animo's head snapped sideways.
His pupils narrowed into vertical slits, his skin turning a sickly bluish hue.
"I can perceive your thoughts!" he shrieked.
"Don't move!!"
His aura suddenly spiked, turning oppressive and unstable.
Ethen raised a hand, stopping Gwen.
"Wait," he said calmly.
"Let's give him his few minutes. Once Ben and I transform, we'll end this cleanly."
"Haha!!" Animo cackled madly.
"My creation will crush you all! And that girl—what is she? Another alien?"
"I'm a magician," Gwen snapped.
"Then die together!!"
Ethen fell silent.
He waited.
Second by second.
Each moment stretched unbearably long.
Finally—
The Love Watch on Ethen's wrist flickered.
Cooldown complete.
At the same time, Dr. Animo carefully lifted a transparent container.
Inside it was… nothing.
Just air.
He attached it to the telescope's lens and pressed a button.
WHOOSH!!!
Deep green DNA energy surged through the telescope, bathing the chamber in light.
Ben frowned, "Why inject DNA into a container of air?"
Gwen was confused as well.
"There's no life in there at all."
"Ding, mission issued!"
Mission: Dr. Animo's Most Terrifying Masterpiece
Description: Tardigrades are microscopic organisms capable of surviving extreme environments. Alone, they pose no threat to humans. But what happens when alien DNA is introduced… and the scale is increased?
Mission Reward: 50 reward points
"…Tardigrades?" Ethen's expression changed completely.
WHOOSH!!!
A tiny speck appeared in the container.
It expanded.
Rapidly.
Violently.
In seconds, it became a hideous monstrosity—
a bloated white body, thick folds of flesh, a horrific proboscis-like face, and four powerful limbs.
Bang!!
The container shattered.
The creature grew again, smashing through the ceiling and crashing out of the observatory into the swamp.
"ROOOAR!!"
The giant tardigrade erupted from the swamp, its body swelling further—
Deep green crystals began forming across its flesh.
Petrosapien DNA + Tardigrade.
An organism that could survive anything.
An organism that could not be killed.
Click.
Ethen slammed his Love Watch.
Pink light erupted.
"This," he said coldly, "is where your experiment ends."
