Stepping into the parking lot, Mandy turns to Jimmy and asks, "How are we going to get into the main building? They must have already locked the entrance."
"I know a place, follow me!", Jimmy replies before starting to walk, gesturing for her to follow him.
Crossing the empty parking lot, the two reach the side of the main building, more specifically, the staircase that leads to the school basement, at the same door Jimmy used a few days ago.
Seeing that the door he had broken into before was still open, Jimmy starts to speak only to be interrupted by Mandy hitting his shoulder, "It's still open…"
"Shhhh…", briefly looking at Jimmy, Mandy signals for him to stay quiet, pointing to the top of the short staircase where they were, where it was possible to see the light of a flashlight approaching, along with the sound of footsteps.
A few seconds later, the two see an inspector walk past the front of the staircase, continuing his patrol without even suspecting that they were right there, basically at his side.
Once the inspector passes, Jimmy carefully opens the door and pulls Mandy inside with him.
Walking quickly through the basement, Jimmy doesn't waste any time there, guiding Mandy to the door that leads to the school hallways.
Everything was dark and silent, interrupted only by the occasional sounds of footsteps and the flashes of flashlights from the patrolling inspectors.
From there, Mandy takes the lead, making her way to the school's supply room while taking care not to get caught. The only problem is that, upon arriving, they find the door locked.
[Explaining quickly that I invented this room, it doesn't exist in the canon as far as I know, the rooms most similar to it that I know of are all in the basement, but I only remembered that after finishing the chapter, fixing it would take quite some time that I honestly don't have, so I decided to leave it as it is. Just imagine this room only serves to store cleaning supplies, buckets, sponges, cloths, brooms, and mops, nothing more.]
"And now?", Mandy whispers after trying to turn the doorknob a few times. The two were crouched in front of the supply room door.
"Do you have a hairpin?", Jimmy lightly pushes her to the side before asking, standing in front of the lock.
"I do, why?", Mandy answers, confused by the question.
"Lend it to me, I'm going to open the door", Jimmy says, extending his hand to receive the hairpin.
Taking a hairpin from who knows where, Mandy hands it to Jimmy before turning her face toward the dark hallway to see if anyone was coming, "Okay, but hurry."
A few seconds later, Mandy hears a click, and when she turns her gaze back to Jimmy, she sees him opening the door and entering the supply room.
The room was small and dark; there were some buckets, brooms, and mops thrown around. And leaning against one of the walls, there was a large four-section metal cabinet, with one of those sections half-open.
"Alright, let's grab a bucket and get out of here before someone shows up", Mandy says, going straight to one of the buckets resting in a corner of the room.
But as soon as she says that and starts walking, both hear footsteps echoing through the hallway, approaching their position.
Acting quickly, Jimmy shuts and locks the door. The problem, however, is that the footsteps stop right in front of the room they were in, and to make the shitty situation they were in even worse, not even a second later, the two hear the jingling of keys.
Meanwhile, outside the room, Mr. Luntz rummages through his keyring, grabbing a specific one and inserting it into the supply room's lock.
Opening the door, Mr. Luntz turns on the room's light, seeing nothing strange. He then enters the room and places a bucket and a mop beside the metal cabinet before turning around and leaving the room, turning off the light behind him.
While Mr. Luntz was doing those things, Jimmy and Mandy were squeezed inside one of the sections of the metal cabinet, the one that until a few moments ago had been half-open.
Mandy's body was pressed against Jimmy's, her flushed face mere millimeters from his; she was burning with embarrassment.
As soon as Mr. Luntz locks the door behind him and the sound of his footsteps grows distant from the supply room, the two step out of the cabinet, with Mandy promptly distancing herself from Jimmy with a blushing face.
"Just to know, don't you have a boyfriend?", Jimmy suddenly asks, raising an eyebrow.
"I do, why?", Mandy replies as she hurriedly grabs a large bucket and turns toward the exit.
"Nothing, I just thought it was weird that you got all red and were breathing heavily in there", Jimmy comments with an amused smile as Mandy walks past him, making her stop halfway.
"That's a lie, Hopkins", Mandy quickly turns to Jimmy with a furrowed brow, initially letting out a loud sound, only to realize her mistake and then continuing in a quieter but very angry voice.
"I know what I saw", Jimmy murmurs, walking past her and heading toward the door.
While Jimmy slightly opens the door and checks if the coast is clear, Mandy approaches and murmurs angrily, "You didn't see anything, there was nothing to see."
"Alright, it's not like I care", with his attention still focused on the hallway outside, Jimmy murmurs, not paying attention to what Mandy was saying.
"It was dark, whatever you think you saw is all in your head, Hopkins", Mandy continues, trying to convince Jimmy that he was wrong about what he saw.
Agreeing just for the sake of agreeing, Jimmy says before fully opening the door and stepping into the hallway, "Sure, sure, all in my head! Anyway, let's get out of here quickly."
Despite wanting to keep arguing about the subject, Mandy reluctantly follows him, not wanting to be left behind.
