Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Clues to the Chamber of Secrets – The Second Attack

"Kevin, you've got a Recovery Potion, but you're deliberately not taking it out?" Ron asked as the four of them walked back toward the Gryffindor common room.

"Filch's attitude was infuriating. Why bother giving it to him? The school will brew more soon anyway," Kevin replied casually.

"No, I mean… that's actually kind of cool," Ron said, grinning.

Kevin raised an eyebrow at the familiar-sounding line, but before he could respond, Hermione spoke sharply.

"Alright, you two. There's something more important to discuss. Harry— you can hear things the rest of us can't, and now Mrs. Norris has been petrified. That's not a good sign."

"Could this be what Dobby was warning about? The start of some terrible plot?" Hermione added grimly.

"Should we tell Dumbledore?" Harry asked. "About the strange voices I've been hearing?"

"I don't think we should," Hermione said, shaking her head.

"I think we should," Kevin countered. "Dumbledore might be able to help."

"But we don't know what the consequences will be for Harry," Hermione insisted.

Kevin didn't push the point—he knew exactly what this would lead to, but Hermione saw it differently. Best to let events unfold.

A few days later, during Transfiguration, Professor McGonagall gave Kevin a pointed glare as soon as she entered the classroom.

She still hadn't quite forgiven his cheek from last time. Kevin offered a quick nod and kept his mouth shut.

"Today," she began, "we will be learning how to transform animals into goblets."

She demonstrated by turning a bird on her desk into a shining silver goblet, then explained the incantation and key wand movements before setting them to practice.

Students with pets could use them; the rest worked with birds provided by the school.

Ron managed to turn Scabbers into a furry goblet—tail and all.

"Your turn, Kevin," McGonagall said.

Kevin borrowed Ron's rat and cast clearly, "Fera Verto."

A perfect goblet appeared—except for the two tiny silver bells hanging from its base. He'd left them there deliberately. The class burst into laughter.

McGonagall tapped Kevin lightly on the shoulder.

She wasn't truly angry—if anything, she was quietly pleased that the once overly-polite boy now had friends to joke with.

Kevin flicked one of the goblet's bells, making it squeak like a rat. Ron quickly scooped Scabbers away before Kevin could do more mischief.

Hermione shot him a look but then raised her hand. "Professor, could you tell us about the Chamber of Secrets?"

After a pause, McGonagall nodded. "Very well. You have a right to know."

She explained how Hogwarts had been founded a thousand years ago by Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin.

Slytherin believed only pure-blood wizards should be admitted; when the others disagreed, he left the school.

Legend had it that Slytherin built a hidden Chamber of Secrets, sealed so only his heir could open it, unleashing a monster to purge Hogwarts of Muggle-borns.

Despite repeated searches, the Chamber had never been found.

The Slytherin students smirked. Everyone else looked grim.

After class, Kevin pulled Harry, Ron, and Hermione aside.

"I don't know who the Heir of Slytherin is," he said, "but I think I know someone who might."

He led them outside, where they found Draco Malfoy approaching.

"Kevin, you know I can't be seen hanging around you lot," Draco said warily.

"How much do you know about the Chamber of Secrets?" Kevin asked.

Draco frowned. "Why would I know anything?"

"Your family's been in Slytherin for generations. You must've heard something."

Draco hesitated, then muttered, "My father says the Chamber was opened fifty years ago. He wouldn't tell me who did it—just that they were expelled. And… a Muggle-born was killed."

His eyes darted to Hermione nervously. She stayed silent until Kevin gave her a reassuring pat on the head.

"That's all I know. And don't you dare tell anyone I told you!" Draco said before hurrying away.

Kevin sighed. "Well, at least we know the legend's true. Bad news is… it's true."

His attempt at humor fell flat.

Over the next few days, Kevin stuck close to Hermione, who assumed he was simply worried for her safety.

Snape, noticing this, didn't assign Kevin any extra work.

Then came the next Quidditch match.

Gryffindor was trailing Slytherin 30–90 when a rogue Bludger began targeting Harry.

He dodged desperately while also chasing the Golden Snitch, Draco hot on his tail.

The Bludger smashed into Draco, sending him crashing into a goalpost. Harry's arm was broken moments later—but he still caught the Snitch.

Gryffindor won.

Before the Bludger could attack again, Kevin leapt from the stands, grabbed it with one hand, and held it fast.

Somewhere in the shadows, Dobby gaped in disbelief—no matter how much magic he used, the Bludger wouldn't budge from Kevin's grip.

Kevin helped Harry to the ground, stopping Lockhart from "helping" and instead giving Harry a dose of Skele-Gro and Recovery Potion.

The pain faded instantly, though Madam Pomfrey insisted he spend the night in the hospital wing.

Kevin also gave Draco a Recovery Potion out of fairness before leaving.

That night, Harry awoke to find Dobby at his bedside.

"Harry Potter should not have come to Hogwarts!" Dobby said earnestly, admitting he had tampered with the Bludger to drive Harry away.

He spoke of punishing himself with a hot iron and hinted that history was about to repeat itself.

Before Harry could press for details, Dumbledore and several professors entered—carrying Colin Creevey, the second victim.

His camera, when opened, released a burst of melted film.

"Hogwarts is no longer safe," Dumbledore said gravely. "The Chamber of Secrets has been opened once again."
