The identity of an ANBU member isn't something that should be casually revealed.
Itsuki felt helpless. Somehow, every time he ran into classmates, his status as ANBU got dragged into the open.
Do they think of me as some side character just messing around in ANBU?
Well… it's not entirely wrong. But still—don't mistake dumplings for dry rations!
"I'm still a Genin," Itsuki said lightly. "Is there a problem with me taking the Chunin Exams?"
"That's perfect." Sasuke smirked, his voice serious. "I've always wanted to fight you. I hope you don't run away this time."
"There's a chance." Itsuki gave a helpless smile.
Being targeted by either Naruto or Sasuke… always troublesome.
Some of the surrounding candidates whispered among themselves.
"Wait, isn't that Uchiha?"
"I didn't expect him to take this guy so seriously. Looks like this 'ANBU' brat isn't simple after all."
"Hmph. You dare enter the Chunin Exams? Don't think you'll be easy to deal with."
Naruto immediately shouted in protest. "Hey, Sasuke! Itsuki is our friend! How can you say that? He's your brother!"
"Shut up." Sasuke's expression darkened. "I only have one brother—and I'll kill him myself. There won't be a second one."
He'd heard rumors that Itsuki was his cousin. But Sasuke didn't believe it.
The Uchiha clan had been wiped out. He was the last.
Now that the clan was gone, people dared to crawl out and claim ties? If they really were cousins, why hadn't anyone said so before the massacre?
"Why so serious?" Naruto muttered, shrinking his neck. "Even if he's not your brother, he's still a friend!"
"This is the Chunin Exams," Sasuke snapped coldly. "Even our own teammates are competitors. Eventually, we'll fight. I hope when that time comes, you won't say 'he's my friend' and hesitate to kill me."
Naruto blinked, then grew serious. "Of course I won't. If we fight, I'll beat you down!"
"Hmph. You, the dead-last?" Sasuke sneered, turning his gaze forward.
He didn't care about the whispers around him.
For this exam, the only ones worthy of his attention were Gaara… and Itsuki.
Well, maybe Neji Hyuga too.
Not long after, Rock Lee ran up to Sakura and confessed his love, only to be rejected—exactly as in the original timeline.
Sasuke, acting cool as ever, was the first to expose the genjutsu blocking the hallway.
Those who hadn't noticed were left confused, while those who had already guessed only scoffed.
To them, Sasuke looked like a rookie—strong, but inexperienced. Too easy to manipulate.
Itsuki noticed all the hidden looks around the room—probing, calculating, hostile.
He sighed softly, then told Karin and Yakumo, "Let's head to the third floor."
The three of them passed Kotetsu Hagane and Izumo Kamizuki's blockade and walked up toward Classroom 301.
In the stairwell, Rock Lee challenged Sasuke, wanting to prove that hard work could surpass genius.
Itsuki and his teammates stayed to watch but didn't interfere.
It played out just like in the original—Sasuke being humbled, Naruto almost stepping in, and Lee's overwhelming taijutsu leaving an impression.
When Guy-sensei appeared with his usual dramatic flair, Itsuki quickly dragged Karin and Yakumo away.
It was simply too embarrassing to linger.
"That guy just now—Tenten's team leader?" Karin shivered at the memory of Guy's green tights and bizarre poses.
"He doesn't look strong at all. Even less reliable than Sakura's sensei, Kakashi!"
Itsuki chuckled. "Don't underestimate him. If he goes all out, almost no one in Konoha could take a punch from him head-on and survive."
Both Karin and Yakumo froze in shock. That watermelon rind? No way!
"Hey, we meet again," A lazy voice came from the shadows.
Itsuki turned, spotting Kakashi Hatake leaning against the wall, little orange book in hand.
His single visible eye stared straight ahead. He'd been standing there unnoticed the entire time.
"Senior Kakashi!" Itsuki greeted.
Karin looked embarrassed, realizing she'd just been badmouthing his eternal rival.
Itsuki grinned. "Senior, you've got bad timing. If Karin bombs the exam, it'll be your fault."
Kakashi chuckled. "You're bold. No wonder Tenzo took you as his disciple. You're even more cunning than him."
Itsuki smirked. "I'll be sure to tell Teacher Tenzo you said that."
"The younger generation… so unlovable." Kakashi sighed, rubbing his forehead.
Then he asked, "So, Guy was here earlier? Did something happen?"
Itsuki explained briefly. "One of his students challenged Sasuke."
Kakashi tilted his head thoughtfully. "Because of the Uchiha name, no doubt. That Lee kid… I've heard of him. A shinobi who can only practice taijutsu. Just like Guy back in the day. No wonder Guy sees himself in him."
Karin, curious, asked, "But Guy-sensei said he's your eternal rival. He even claimed he wins more than he loses against you. Is that true?"
Kakashi was quiet for a moment, then chuckled softly. "Well… that's about right. Itsuki's evaluation was correct—Guy is very strong."
Karin's jaw dropped. Even after hearing it straight from Kakashi himself, she still couldn't believe it.
"Karin, let's go. We'll talk later, Senior Kakashi." Itsuki sensed Team 7 arriving and pulled his teammates onward.
Kakashi didn't stop them.
He was only here to give Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura some final words before the exam.
As Itsuki disappeared up the stairs, Kakashi murmured to himself:
"Tenzo has accepted a good disciple. The more I see, the more impressed I am."
He looked up, watching Team 7 approach with determined expressions.
"…Well, my own disciples aren't bad either."
By the time Itsuki, Karin, and Yakumo reached Classroom 301, the room was already packed with over a hundred Genin.
The atmosphere was tense, thick enough to choke on.
Every candidate inside turned their heads toward the newcomers.
Eyes ranged from probing, to hostile, to indifferent—but none showed welcome.
Karin and Yakumo instinctively pressed closer to Itsuki, clutching at his sleeve.
"Relax," Itsuki reassured them. "No fighting's allowed here."
The exam hadn't even started yet. Many wouldn't survive the first round.
There was no reason to create enemies before then.
He led the two girls inside without another word.
