Chapter 161 - Chapter 160: Want to Go to the Shikkotsu Forest to Learn Magic

Konoha Ranch, Kusagakure accommodation area.

A medical ninja in a white coat shook his head at the leader Midori. "He was too badly injured. Sorry, we couldn't save him."

On the wooden bed next to them lay the Kusagakure ninja who had been brought back from the Forest of Death. He had already died.

Although he had managed to return alive, he succumbed soon after explaining everything that had happened.

"Damn it! The whole squad wiped out!" Midori angrily punched the wooden bed.

With a loud bang, the bed shattered, and the corpse fell to the ground.

However, Midori didn't care about the broken furniture.

Deep in his heart, he seethed: So Konoha stole the humanoid pill. No wonder it was found. I never imagined one of the Five Great Nations would do something like this!

"Chief! We should go see the Hokage and demand an explanation!"

"Exactly. They let the humanoid pill kill all our people. They owe us compensation."

"If they dare use force, we'll expose this and disgrace them publicly."

Midori's subordinates were filled with righteous indignation, their emotions boiling.

The deaths were one thing, but what angered them most was that the humanoid pills were taken.

In an attempt to avoid war, all living forces had fled to Konoha and even tried to rely on the village. And yet, Konoha had actually snatched the pill!

From start to finish, Kusagakure had been played for fools.

No wonder everything went wrong after arriving in Konoha. They had offended every nation that participated in the Chunin Exam.

All of this, Midori realized, must have been orchestrated by Konoha.

"Konoha!" Midori gritted his teeth, eyes flashing with fury.

"I advise against doing anything stupid," a white-haired girl said from the corner, her tone laced with sarcasm. "This is someone else's turf. If you rush in, you'll just become prey."

She was tied up, restrained by a chakra-sealing technique.

"Shut up! Traitor!" a Kusagakure Jonin shouted.

"I am not a traitor!" the white-haired girl snapped, her expression more angry than remorseful.

"Ryūzetsu!" Midori interrupted calmly.

He looked at her. "I understand your loyalty to the village, but the village is at a critical point now."

"If you act recklessly, Kusagakure will be destroyed!" Ryūzetsu struggled to rise but fell back down.

"Save your energy!" Midori said expressionlessly.

"I won't let you interfere. You know the effects of Fire Release: Heavenly Prison. Used on prisoners in Ghost Lantern City, if you stray too far, the skyfire will burn you from the inside out."

"I didn't want to use it on you. After all, you could have been my niece-in-law. Even for Muku's sake, I have to take care of you."

"Muku is dead! He's dead!" Ryūzetsu touched a sensitive nerve, and Ryūzetsu roared in anger.

Soon, tears streamed down her face as she muttered, "He… will never come back."

Midori waved his hand, asking everyone to leave. When only he and Ryūzetsu remained, he spoke softly.

"I know colluding with the Sand Village is risky, like trying to take the skin off a tiger. But if we don't, Kusagakure will have no chance of survival."

"Konoha is no longer reliable. If we return in disgrace, the neighboring nations will swallow us whole. By then, you… me… and everyone else, including our relatives still in the village, will likely die."

"This is our last resort. If we win, Kusagakure will be restored—or even surpass its former glory."

Initially, Midori had wanted to rely on Konoha, even if it meant losses or vassalage, just to save the village.

But the Third Hokage rejected the request.

He refused to intervene in foreign wars, which could provoke other major powers or even spark a Ninja World War.

At most, Konoha would sell some war supplies at low prices—but that wasn't enough.

When Kusagakure arrived, they offended other visiting nations during the Chunin Exam.

Midori visited these nations under the guise of apologies and discovered that the Sand Village intended to attack Konoha during the exam.

Life in the Sand Village was also difficult. They didn't want a war or the destruction of Konoha—it was purely domestic economic pressure.

They wanted to show military strength to attract more entrusted tasks.

Midori realized he could help. He had brought nearly all of Kusagakure's manpower.

If an alliance with Konoha was impossible, then an alliance with the Sand Village—a major nation—could also intimidate neighboring countries.

If they could win against Konoha, Kusagakure would gain honor, fame, and fortune, escaping their current predicament.

Thus, Midori took the initiative.

The Sand Village didn't want their plan exposed, so they agreed to let Kusagakure join.

When Midori's confidants discussed the plan, Ryūzetsu strongly opposed it. So, she was imprisoned and couldn't participate in the Chunin Exam.

Midori was confident. The Sand Village was powerful enough to challenge Konoha. With Kusagakure's addition, the odds improved—even if not 100%, at least 99.99%.

The Kusagakure senior ninjas agreed and were ready to fight to the death. Ryūzetsu only saw failure.

Unfortunately, she was powerless to influence anyone.

At the Chunin Exam venue, after the third main round opponents were determined, everyone dispersed.

Itsuki approached Tsunade. "I want to go to the Shikkotsu Forest to learn senjutsu."

Tsunade frowned, concerned. "Senjutsu isn't easy. If you make a mistake, your body could be in serious danger."

"Throughout history, only a handful of ninja have mastered senjutsu. I'm not doubting your talent, Itsuki, but isn't it too soon?"

"Your body isn't fully matured, and you have no offspring. I haven't mastered the immortal arts, so I can't assist if something goes wrong. If anything happens… Pah… it could be disastrous."

Tsunade had clearly thought through all the risks, which was why she listed so many reasonable objections.

Itsuki was already resolute. "Aunt, I feel something big is coming! If I don't improve quickly, I might die!"

Tsunade's heart skipped a beat. With the chat group's existence, she couldn't take Itsuki's words lightly.

Finally, after hesitation, Tsunade agreed.

"I'll let you rest for two days, then we'll go see the Slug sage. I'll supervise the entire process. If anything goes wrong, I'll stop it immediately."

Itsuki nodded solemnly. This was the beginning of a whole new stage of his ninja path.
