Chapter 112 - Chapter 111: The Leading Male Ant Is Eliminated — But the Retreat Is Surrounded!

Even though Song Jie had fought in countless battles, the current scene was still enough to shake even his nerves.

He took a deep breath, trying not to overthink the awkwardness of the situation.

"Indeed… those who accomplish great things don't dwell on the small stuff," he told himself silently.

Since the female Military Supervisor hadn't commented on their earlier closeness, he chose to act as though nothing had happened and focus on the mission.

Song Jie and the Military Supervisor flew on the Wind Riding Sky Eagle, heading straight toward the rear of the Bloodthirsty Ant army.

The moment they arrived high above the swarm, the woman's sharp gaze flickered.

"It's exactly as you suspected. They're communicating through mental power," she said.

As both a Mind Element and Sound Element Mage, she could confirm her judgment without doubt. Through the faint mental pulses, she could also pinpoint the locations of the male ants.

"That's great," Song Jie said quickly. "Can you find the one giving the orders?"

"I'm searching."

Her voice grew firm as she extended her spiritual perception, tracing the strongest mental energy within the massive swarm below.

If she could locate it, that would be the manipulator behind the Bloodthirsty Ants.

Suddenly, the Wind Riding Sky Eagle sensed danger and shot upward sharply.

Caught off guard, the Military Supervisor instinctively clutched Song Jie tightly from behind.

Song Jie's body stiffened — the feeling was unexpectedly… intense. Her figure was comparable to Tang Yue's.

But the woman didn't seem to notice his reaction. Her expression remained calm and focused as she said coldly, "Fly that way!"

Following her instructions, Song Jie directed the eagle to swoop southeast.

At that moment, the enemy commander below issued a new order, and waves of Bloodthirsty Ants surged toward them.

That reaction gave the Military Supervisor the clue she needed. Her eyes flashed with determination as she locked onto a specific area.

"Fly lower. I'll kill it myself," she ordered.

Song Jie nodded. The eagle folded its wings and dove rapidly toward the southeast.

But the hidden male ant seemed to realize it had been discovered and immediately gathered thousands of Bloodthirsty Ants around it as a living shield.

Song Jie prepared to attack, but then he saw a dazzling constellation form behind him. The Military Supervisor's aura exploded with terrifying power.

"Soul-Snatching Melody!"

"Soul Suppression!!"

Her clear voice echoed like a resounding drumbeat, filled with lethal vibration.

Ripples of sound waves swept across the battlefield.

In an instant, every Bloodthirsty Ant within the area froze — their movements halted, their bodies collapsing one after another.

The silence that followed was chilling. Even Warrior-Level creatures perished within moments.

Song Jie commanded the Wind Riding Sky Eagle to descend low over the bodies.

"Commander, is it dead?" he asked.

The Military Supervisor didn't reply right away. She kept scanning the surroundings — and then, the entire Bloodthirsty Ant army suddenly stopped moving.

Through her senses, she detected mental fluctuations among the male ants — they were confused, sending out signals, asking whether they should continue to attack.

That confirmed it.

The manipulator had been eliminated!

The woman swiftly used her Mind Element to transmit her own mental message into the swarm.

Moments later, chaos erupted. Many Bloodthirsty Ants turned and fled toward the distant forest.

"What did you say to them?" Song Jie asked curiously.

"I told them their leader was killed by me," she replied calmly. "The male ants got scared and ran."

Song Jie couldn't help but give her a thumbs-up.

As she continued broadcasting the message, nearly one-third of the swarm scattered in panic.

But then — no matter how much she spread the command — the remaining Bloodthirsty Ants continued their relentless assault on You City (Oil City).

"What's going on?" Song Jie frowned.

"There's still one more controlling them," the woman said decisively. "I can sense it. It's hiding."

"Another one?" Song Jie muttered. "Then things just got troublesome."

"This one's cautious — smarter than the first," she said grimly.

"Then let's clear out the male ants while we can," Song Jie suggested.

"Agreed."

With her mental lock guiding him, they began hunting down the remaining male ants.

It was then that the Military Supervisor noticed something. "Your Light Element magic... it's different."

Song Jie smiled faintly. "I have a Mutated Talent. My Light Element isn't like the standard kind."

Her eyes widened in awe. "Amazing… I've never seen anything like this."

Before long, Song Jie's Summoning Element and Light Element energy were nearly depleted.

He returned to the city wall, recalling the Wind Riding Sky Eagle into his Dimensional Space.

"You've done well," the Military Supervisor said softly, seeing the exhaustion in his eyes.

Song Jie leaned against the wall and sat down, asking, "How's the situation on the other fronts?"

She shook her head. "No word yet. The swarm may be thinner, but their numbers are still overwhelming."

She turned to a nearby officer. "Activate the city defense barrier. Order everyone to rest and recover immediately."

The city defense barrier was a powerful formation meant to repel demon invasions, but its energy consumption was massive — it could only be used once or twice before depleting the city's reserves.

Still, there was no other choice. The defenders were completely drained.

The Bloodthirsty Ants continued to climb the walls but were stopped by the shimmering barrier of light.

The Military Supervisor quickly asked, "What's the status of the retreat?"

"Another hour, and everyone should reach the safety barrier," an officer reported.

"Tell them to move faster," she ordered. "We might not last another hour."

The Bloodthirsty Ant army gave them no time to breathe — even half an hour might be too optimistic.

Minutes later, the city defense barrier pulsed and opened again. The soldiers rejoined the battle with grim determination.

Song Jie stepped forward, raising his hand. A brilliant Radiance spell descended, vaporizing a cluster of Bloodthirsty Ants into a pool of blood.

Essence orbs floated upward, converging on his bracelet one after another.

A grin crept onto Song Jie's face. After this battle, he had collected 343 Servant-Level Essence Orbs — enough to upgrade his Advanced-Level Star Seed to the fourth level, and even strengthen his Intermediate-Level Star Seed as well.

"Come on, come to Daddy's embrace," he muttered with satisfaction as the essence orbs streamed in.

But within half an hour, the Mages along the wall were utterly exhausted again.

"Prepare to retreat into the city!" the Military Supervisor commanded. "We'll switch to guerrilla tactics!"

Just then, a panicked soldier sprinted up the stairs, gasping for breath.

"Commander! Bad news — the Bloodthirsty Ants dug tunnels to the rear! They've already blocked our retreat!"
