[Clara's POV]
The hum of Lab 7 was steady, a background rhythm that grounded Clara as she adjusted charts and lined up the samples for presentation. Today was important. Dr. Patel had just come by her workstation and praised her for completing Phase one, his usual energy tempered by a more serious tone.
"Clara," he said, resting a hand on her shoulder. "The CEO will be reviewing Phase One today. You'll present the progress."
Clara froze mid-adjustment, her mind flashing. The CEO. That meant Nathaniel. Her chest tightened and her fingers flexed unconsciously around the clipboard. She swallowed, her voice almost whispering, "Nathaniel… I don't know how I feel about that."
Dr. Patel gave a small, patient nod. "I understand. But you'll do fine. Just present the work. That's what matters."
