Greiger was in a foul mood.
Flying Fortress SKY FIRE was his ace, a monster that could destroy opponent's summons, spells, and traps at any time. But this guy on the other side just refused to Summon or set cards—going straight for bounces. Even SKY FIRE's full potential was hobbled.
"Ballista Squad, destroy Abyss Soldier!"
SKY FIRE self-destructed, shattering into pieces—fiery metal meteorites bombarded Abyss Soldier in a storm, finally blasting the troublesome soldier to bits.
"You're really willing to use your hard-won SKY FIRE just to take down my soldier. Was my Abyss Soldier really that annoying?" Kira shrugged.
"Hmph!" Greiger grunted in anger.
Sinister, devious Goodwin—his dueling really was just as dirty as his personality.
If not for that Gravity Bind in the back row, Abyss Soldier would've been finished last turn. If not for Card of Pandora saving Gravity Bind, same thing.
Greiger gritted his teeth.
His target was right in front of him, but just one Gravity Bind prevented all attacks—so frustrating it was infuriating.
"Then I now summon Treeborn Frog in Defense Position," said Kira.
A starlit vortex opened. A small frog with a halo hopped out, starlight exploding, crouching in defense.

Kira quickly drew three more cards.
"I set three cards and end my turn."
Snap, snap, snap—three cards flashed out beside his Duel Runner, briefly visible then vanishing into transparency.
Greiger was even more incensed.
Three facedowns—again. Could they all be like Gravity Bind?
"Coward! You're that afraid to face me head on!?"
Greiger snarled.
"Fine! I'll use brute force to make you face me!
My turn—draw!"
Greiger swept his huge arm.
"The card I discarded last turn for SKY FIRE's effect was this:
Dark Tuner Doom Submarine!" (Anime card)
He revealed the anime-original submarine.
"Dark Tuner Doom Submarine's effect—if I control no monsters, I can Special Summon it from my graveyard.
Appear! Level 9, Dark Tuner Doom Submarine!"
A dark submarine burst from the earth, water surging as it hovered beside Greiger's massive vehicle.

Greiger: "This is the power of the Netherworld! As a Dark Signer, I wield forces beyond common sense!

A tiny dinghy with white, zombie-like creatures appeared.

Stars were drained from the monsters and stained corrupt black, as if the brightest stars had fallen into darkness. The dark power opened the gates of Hades as a massive carrier emerged from the Netherworld.
"Hear the wails from the abyss, don the grim reaper's armor and appear!

Spectating Jack's eyes nearly popped out. His worldview was shaken.
Dark Tuning? Level minus eight?
Are you kidding!? Does this really exist!?
Dark Flattop (which got a real card version), but of course the anime's 'negative levels' and 'Dark Synchro' features were scrapped in real life—the printed card's just a normal Level 8.
"Dark Flattop, effect activate!"
Greiger raised his voice.
"Once per turn, I can Special Summon one Flying Fortress SKY FIRE from my graveyard, ignoring summon conditions!"
Kira calmly said, "So it's a custom Dark Synchro, made just for your ace SKY FIRE?"
SKY FIRE had always been Greiger's trump card since before he became a Dark Signer. Now, the Dark Synchro power gifted to him was made as a perfect support—embarrassingly 'tailor-made'.
"Exactly!" said Greiger, "The Netherworld's power created a new possibility for SKY FIRE—born for vengeance!"
He had no intention to hide the brokenness of such a card.
"Revive! Flying Fortress SKY FIRE!"
A deafening roar—dark waves swept the sky, as if death itself parted for the air raid.
Inky black water parted, the overcast, sinister SKY FIRE descended once more, radiating endless power.

"So as long as the carrier lives, your SKY FIRE is immortal," Kira remarked.
"Exactly!" bellowed Greiger.
"This SKY FIRE is just like me now! Even if I die, as long as the spirit of revenge burns, I'll return from hell as many times as needed! I carry hundreds of souls' rage and won't fall until vengeance is done!"
"I activate Flying Fortress SKY FIRE's effect!
Once per turn, discard one card to destroy an opponent's card!"
Greiger discarded another card.
"Destroy Gravity Bind!"
A wall erected by spells and traps that shut down attacks—no choice but to get rid of it first.
SKY FIRE soared overhead, bombs raining down on both sides of Kira's Duel Runner, fire consuming Gravity Bind. The invisible barriers faded away.
"Now, my attack is no longer locked!"
Greiger's great arm punched the air.
"Go! Flying Fortress SKY FIRE! Smash that loathsome scum!"
"Then I activate my set card!" Kira responded, "Counter Trap—Negate Attack!
Your attack is negated, and the Battle Phase ends immediately!"
Greiger: "NANI!?"
