Elena's POV
"Again," Adrian's voice snapped through the air like the crack of thunder.
My chest heaved, sweat slicking the back of my neck as I tried to concentrate.
The training dome was a sensory labyrinth. The entire setup is an advanced blend of high-tech and traditional psychic sensors. The mirrors, shadows, and telepathic noise all clawed at my focus.
My heart kept pounding against my ribs, the sound deafening.
"I said again, Elena," Adrian repeated. His tone wasn't cruel, but it was sharp, cutting, and exact.
That tone made you want to prove you could endure anything.
I clenched my fists, psychic energy rippling from my palms like heat waves. "You could at least pretend to care that I'm human," I hissed through my breath.
Adrian didn't move. He stood at the center of the room, his black shirt rolled to his forearms, bare feet planted like a soldier's.
