Chapter 56: Plans Can't Keep Up with Changes
According to the detailed plan formulated by Yasushi before the war:
In Konoha Village, the only jutsu threatening to Nagato were the Third's "Reaper Death Seal" and Might Guy's "Eight Gates."
He suggested using Tendo Pain to lead the Asura Path and Animal Path in frontal assault to draw fire, seeing if they could bait these two out.
As long as the Third dared use "Reaper Death Seal," Nagato's side would immediately disconnect and leave.
If Might Guy dared stake his life to kick, Pain would dare take it with his face.
The Naraka Path would stand by outside, waiting to revive Tendo after it was destroyed.
In the original plan, three main combat puppets were responsible for frontal fire-drawing; the Human Path would act together with Yasushi's group; the Preta Path would enter the field only after the tailed beast appeared to help restrain Jiraiya; the Naraka Path stood by off-field, ready to repair at any time; Sasori and Itachi were responsible for opening the main gate passage, allowing massive numbers of White Zetsu to flood in and kill; Kakuzu and Biwa Juzo were responsible for drawing out Tsunade, using her hemophobia to eliminate her; Nagato would make the final appearance as the climax, responsible for village destruction.
The Obito and Zetsu team were respectively responsible for releasing the Nine-Tails and human wave attacks.
Obito had released the Nine-Tails once before—this job could be said to be familiar territory. Having him do it again was most appropriate.
Zetsu controlled massive numbers of White Zetsu. Though due to Akatsuki's insufficient resources, the number of White Zetsu produced couldn't possibly reach the manga's hundred thousand magnitude, using them to restrain Konoha Village's numerous ordinary ninja was no problem.
Previously, Nagato had come alone in a half-crippled state and nearly destroyed Konoha Village.
Now the entire Akatsuki organization was here. Nagato was in healthy condition, plus intelligence was completely transparent.
Thinking with his ass, Yasushi couldn't imagine how this wave could lose!
But the problem was—plans were always just plans.
No matter how well planned, people had to execute them. And human hearts were the greatest variable.
Now Obito hadn't gone to release the Nine-Tails but suddenly appeared at the Hokage Building, representing that the plan had already begun losing control.
"Obito?"
This suddenly appearing name immediately attracted everyone's attention.
Especially Kakashi—most sensitive to this name. Upon hearing it, he immediately couldn't care about any battle.
He jumped down from Baku's body, arriving before Obito, staring fixedly at his figure, asking in a trembling voice with shock:
"Obito...is that you?"
"You didn't die?"
"Then why didn't you return to Konoha Village?"
Obito's face darkened, his heart depressed beyond words.
His original task was indeed to find the Nine-Tails jinchuriki and release the Nine-Tails again.
But after arriving at Konoha Village, before finding the Nine-Tails jinchuriki, he habitually prioritized checking on his old best friend.
Then he discovered with surprise that in combat, Kakashi's left eye remained a three-tomoe Sharingan.
But before this, Uchiha Yasushi had told him the Sharingan he'd given Kakashi had been crushed.
His first reaction was—Yasushi lied to provoke him.
Originally, relying on Kamui's dimension to dominate the world plus having Wood Release available, he didn't particularly care about whether he could activate Susanoo.
But after being ambushed by Yasushi with Rinkaichū earlier and having all his intelligence leaked, he realized this Kamui dimension wouldn't be reliable in the future—very easy to be targeted. Susanoo's defensive capability was still very important.
Moreover, missing one eye, he could only use Kamui's dimension but couldn't perform Kamui attacks—particularly incomplete and disadvantageous for future evolution to Rinnegan after becoming Ten-Tails jinchuriki.
So he considered whether to seize this opportunity to retrieve his eye, lest Yasushi actually destroy it.
Combined with frequent nightmares before, making him constantly suspect Danzo was secretly harming him—why not simply take advantage of this Konoha attack opportunity to visit the Hokage Building.
While retrieving his eye, conveniently also steal the "Scroll of Seals" to see what methods Danzo used and how to break them.
Who knew he'd barely arrived at the Hokage Building, hadn't found where the Scroll of Seals was yet, hadn't had time to act against Kakashi when the Hokage Building was leveled!
Worse still, he was caught red-handed by Pain!
And Kakashi suddenly popping out, running before him with a "deep old friend feelings" appearance, further ignited his fury.
"Kakashi..." Obito muttered through gritted teeth. But his mind suddenly surfaced with the nightmare content he'd recently experienced.
Yasushi's curse followed like a shadow, inevitable nightly in dreams!
Moreover, this nightmare could evolve—like a serial drama, episode by episode, each more brutal than the last.
Obito would meet Rin nightly in great joy, then when happiest face plot reversals, transforming from happy simp to sacrificed simp.
All episodes had one core: "Simps don't deserve good endings—goddesses run off with blondes!"
These plot arrangements were reasonable, characters clear, stories dramatic—not wasting all those trashy short dramas Yasushi watched in his previous life, now all used at once!
Under Yasushi's Mangekyo Sharingan ability's effects, unknowingly, Obito's subconscious was somewhat influenced.
Sometimes he inevitably doubted whether these things would really happen if Rin didn't die.
As a veteran simp, he naturally wouldn't blame his goddess. If blaming anyone, blame that interloper—ah no, the silver-haired one.
"Kakashi..." Obito's emotions, which should have been somewhat excited, were now completely calm, even somewhat cold.
"Uchiha Obito died long ago. What's living now is merely a walking corpse."
"If you wish to call me by this name, feel free."
"Whether I'm alive fundamentally doesn't matter."
"A world without Rin is completely meaningless!"
Kakashi immediately felt struck by lightning. His entire body began trembling. His pupils even contracted to pinpoints.
"Obito, about Rin... it's all my fault!"
"If you resent me and won't return to Konoha Village because of that, then..."
"Resent?" Obito coldly interrupted him. "No, this isn't your fault but this world's fault!"
"The shinobi world's very existence is the greatest mistake!"
"The ninja world itself is hell. The chain of hatred will never stop!"
"Everything in this world is fake—even hope!"
"I'd rather bear all sins to make this world better!"
"I want to create a world with only victors, only peace, only love—no war!"
"Now, return my eye to me!"
Speaking thus, Obito extended his hand toward Kakashi.
Kakashi's heart currently surged emotionally. His feelings hadn't yet calmed from the joy of his close friend's sudden resurrection. Facing Obito's extended hand, his heart full of guilt, he fundamentally didn't react.
"Kakashi, watch out!"
With a warning shout, a figure in green tight clothing suddenly charged over, kicking toward Obito.
But naturally, this kick missed, the entire person crossing through Obito's body. In that instant when the two separated, Obito's palm flipped and pressed back.
