Cherreads

Chapter 30 - -16-

With a movement a split second faster than death, Oldred created his own weapon. As Grog staggered back a step, shocked by his opponent's strength, Oldred was already moving. His bionic arm shot beneath his tattered coat.

CLANG!

The sound of rusted metal being forced open was heard. With a fast, strong, and brutally precise motion, Oldred opened the jaws of the hidden Bear Trap. With a spinning momentum, he threw the bear trap. The steel teeth shot out like the jaws of a rabid, hungry dog, aiming straight for Grog's knee.

KLAK-CHUNK!

The trap slammed shut, viciously biting into Grog's kneecap. Oldred didn't stop. He yanked the chain with a single hard pull.

SRRRTT!

Grog roared in pain, his leg buckled, his balance gone for a moment.

Oldred gave him no time to recover. With a movement that made his body nearly disappear, he dashed forward. His strength was like a charging rhino, all his weight focused on a single point.

DHUAAAGH!!

He rammed Grog with his shoulder, squarely in the chest. The wall behind Grog trembled violently. But Oldred's sharp bionic arm stopped Grog from being thrown. The claws at the end of his bionic fingers sprang open.

SKREEEKK!

He stabbed and dragged his claws through Grog's arm, tearing through the thick muscle and skin beneath. The sound of rending flesh was clear amidst the chaos. Before Grog could counter, Oldred had already spun behind him, using the Bear Trap's chain still attached to Grog's knee to choke him from behind. He pulled the chain taut, using the giant's body as a human shield.

Grog choked, making a horrific gurgling sound, his feet kicking at the floor. But this giant wasn't finished. With a frustrated roar, Grog grabbed his own deer mask.

KRAK!

He broke off one of the majestic antlers.

SSHHNK!

With desperate strength, he stabbed the sharp antler backward, burying it deep into Oldred's side.

Oldred hissed. A sharp, piercing pain burned through his body. His grip on the chain loosened. Grog broke free, coughing and gasping. Oldred staggered back a few steps, clutching his torn side. Warm blood seeped through the tattered remains of his coat.

With a low groan, he pulled the broken antler out and threw it to the floor.

Grog then spun around, his fury blazing. A fist the size of a boulder shot toward Oldred's head. Oldred ducked.

WHOOSH!

The punch hit nothing but air. But Grog had anticipated it. From the same ducking motion, Grog immediately brought his knee up.

BLAM!

The knee slammed into Oldred's chin, forcing him to stand upright, his head snapping back. Before Oldred could recover, Grog's powerful hand had already seized his throat.

THUD!

Grog slammed him against the wall.

"Madness," Grog growled, his voice muffled by the now-damaged deer mask, lifting Oldred slightly off the floor. "Just madness.... Baby or elder, their blood is still red in his eyes. But as long as you're here... you will be the extension of life for everyone here!"

However, Oldred ignored him. A lecture in the middle of a fight? Foolish.

CRUNCH!

Oldred kicked Grog's groin. Grog screamed in agony, his grip loosening.

KRA-DENTUM!

Oldred immediately countered. His bionic arm slammed into the side of Grog's head, breaking the other antler. Oldred grabbed the broken antler, trying to stab Grog's face.

Grog managed to dodge, but the sharp antler tore through his animal mask.

SKRIIIT!

The mask ripped, injuring his eye and exposing part of his hardened, scarred face. But... in Oldred's eyes... he saw something impossible. That eye... a familiar eye. And beneath the torn mask... a lock of soft, yellow hair, damp with sweat and blood.

Oldred:

"?!?!"

He froze. Only for a split second. But it was a fatal split second. Nabelia?, was Grog a female?? (Nah, of course not).

Oldred took a step back, disbelieving. Grog, now blind in one eye and enraged, grabbed his hammer again. He didn't swing. He thrust the pointed handle of his hammer at Oldred's chest.

Oldred dodged to the side, his instincts taking over, pushing aside the confusion. He moved forward, tearing his coat.

RRR-PULL!

He yanked the starter on his chainsaw.

VRRRROOOOOOOMM!!

The hoarse roar of the chainsaw filled the air as Oldred started it. He gave Grog no quarter. He swung the saw at Grog's hammer.

SKRRRRZZZZ!!

The chainsaw's chain met the hammer's handle, sending sparks and hot metal fragments flying into Grog's injured eye. Grog roared in pain. Oldred then began to aim for his neck.

However... Grog, with no way to dodge, did the impossible.

He caught the chainsaw. His bare hand clamped down on the spinning chain.

SPLAT!

Blood sprayed everywhere, dousing Oldred's face and the wall. The saw's rotation slowed under his crushing grip. Hot smoke and the sickening smell of burnt flesh billowed from the chain. For a moment... the saw stopped.

A strange black mark, like rotting veins, appeared on Grog's exposed forehead beneath the mask. Grog then, with inhuman strength, roared. He retaliated by ramming Oldred, using his head like a bull.

KRA-BOOOOOOOOM!!

Oldred was thrown. He smashed through the frail wooden wall, flying out of the house, and disappeared into a cloud of dust, wood splinters, and the darkness of the night.
