Chapter 39 - Amnesia

39. Amnesia

Mebius looked at Ling in front of her with interest, with her snake-like eyes that seemed to be able to captivate people.

In fact, she did not take any measures to save him, because shortly after Ling was sent here, his vital signs began to return to normal.

Even the shattered consciousness seemed to be...reborn in a sense!

Yes, not restoration, but rebirth.

All he had left was the most basic understanding of things. He didn't remember who he was or what he had experienced.

Mobius was not worried that he was deceiving herself. After all, the instrument data would not lie. He really lost all his memories and became a completely new person.

Logically speaking, if the consciousness of an ordinary person like Ling is severely damaged, there is basically no chance of survival.

Even among that group of psychic-perception MANTIS warriors, most of them became brain-dead after their consciousness was attacked, and the worst were in a vegetative state.

She didn't think Ling could survive such a situation.

The world allows consciousness to match new containers, but does not allow containers to collect dissipated consciousness.

But the facts are before us. All the other party's data is that of an ordinary person. He has not done any experiments related to Honkai and has not even been exposed to Honkai.

There are two of the few outstanding things about him. One is that he is really good-looking. No wonder he was called the national male god before.

As for the other one... well, it's very long, at least much longer than the corpses dissected by Mobius, 28.5CM, which is quite explosive in the entire human history.

"Okay, don't look so scared, I won't eat you... probably." Mobius comforted him in a soft voice, but the words sounded creepy.

After two days of research and confirming that Ling was indeed an ordinary person, Mobius successfully lost interest in him.

"Klein, prepare some clothes for him. I'm going to get some sleep."

Mobius instructed Klein beside her, then stretched and walked outside.

Although she is already a MANTIS warrior, she will get wrinkles if she doesn't get enough rest. However, this is just an excuse for her to slack off.

"Yes, Doctor." Klein, with dark circles under her eyes that were about to fall to the ground, ran to the side and made a suitable piece of clothing for Ling.

"...Thank you?" After putting on his clothes, Ling expressed his gratitude to Klein in a somewhat dull manner.

"Well, you're welcome. By the way, your sister must have been waiting for you for a long time. Go out and meet her." Klein glanced at Ling and said lightly.

I wonder if a person who has completely lost his memory can be considered to have died once?

"Sister?" Ling looked at Klein with some confusion.

"These are not within my scope of work. Your sister will explain them to you."

Klein silently returned to her workstation. She still had dozens of documents to process. After she finished them, she could probably go to sleep.

Ling blinked, but still walked towards the laboratory door obediently.

"Amnesia? You mean Xiao Ling is now..." Eden's face showed a bit of relief and confusion after surviving the disaster.

"It's good enough that he survived. You know, countless people with stronger mental strength than he have died. Besides, in this situation, amnesia should be the best outcome. After all, Su said that he was himself..."

Mobius paused as Ling appeared at the door of the laboratory.

"Although there is a possibility of recovery, the chance is very slim. Well, my work is done. Don't bother me unless necessary." Mobius walked past Eden and Elysia and headed outside.

Eden's eyes fell on Ling. She quickly stepped forward and hugged Ling tightly in her arms.

The feeling of losing and regaining made her not want to be separated from Ling for a moment.

"Are you...my sister?" Ling asked in a low voice.

"...Yes, Xiao Ling, I am your sister, Eden." Eden composed herself and tried to make herself look less embarrassed.

"Sister..." Ling felt at ease when Eden hugged her.

"I'm your sister Ely, do you remember me?" Elysia walked up and asked expectantly.

Ling shook his head and had no impression of her.

"Ely, I want to take Xiao Ling home first and try to see if he can remember anything," Eden said to Elysia.

"Do you still want him to recover? But..." Elysia said meaningfully.

After all, Ling committed suicide because of A Quan. If he really remembered it, they couldn't predict what the consequences would be.

"...From now on, just pretend that person doesn't exist," Eden said seriously.

She wanted A Quan to completely disappear from this world, leaving behind all traces of her existence...

She wanted to protect Xiao Ling and not let him get hurt again.

Eden canceled all tours and returned home with Ling.

The once leading classical musician and popular opera singer is now rarely seen.

Time has also left some traces on their faces, but one can still vaguely recognize the outstanding appearance of their youth.

The two had been waiting at home for a long time. Their clothes were obviously carefully taken care of, and they had used some makeup on their faces to cover up their haggard appearance.

They tried hard to smile and welcomed the arrival of Eden and Ling.

But when she saw Ling's confused look, the sentimental mother couldn't help but hug him and shed tears.

"It's good that everyone is okay, it's good that everyone is okay..."

The always serious father kept groping for the top of his crutch with his fingers and repeating this sentence over and over again, as if he was comforting the mother or himself.

Ling returned home and felt a childlike curiosity about everything around him.

Perhaps it was because of the memories that were originally carried in his body that when he touched those instruments, he could play them subconsciously.

However, he seemed to have no recollection of his previous life.

Looking at the photo of himself and his sister Eden, he stroked it lightly with his fingers, but there was not a ripple in his mind.

"Eden, you really..."

The harshness and irresistibility that once existed in his father's words had been lost, and only a hint of helplessness remained.

"Well, I don't plan to get married. I will take care of Xiao Ling for the rest of my life."

Eden looked at her father seriously and expressed her most sincere request for the first time in her life.

I had already talked to that talented guy during the previous blind date.

Fortunately, he already had someone in his heart and had no intention of getting married, but unfortunately, both families would not allow such a thing to happen.

The two reached a kind of consensus to put on a show in front of both sides' parents and drag it out as long as possible.

Eden avoids her parents' questions by being busy with her career, and also avoids the forbidden love hidden deep in her heart.

Now is the best time to get rid of the engagement. Although she took advantage of Xiao Ling, Eden can only say sorry for it.

But Eden didn't lie; she really planned to take care of Xiao Ling for the rest of her life.

"...All right."

Her father didn't say much. Perhaps he had already seen that Eden had no intention of getting married; otherwise, she wouldn't have dragged it on like this.

She has the wings of freedom and the power to choose her own future.
