Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Why Me?

"Where am I? Why can't I move? Grandma, where are you? Help me!"

After struggling for what felt like an eternity, she finally managed to open her eyes.

"What is this? Why is it so bright? I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open because of the light."

Slowly, her vision began to clear. To her surprise, she found herself in an unfamiliar place.

"Wait, what is this? What am I seeing? Is this how the world looks now? But where am I?"

As she was lost in her thoughts, she suddenly heard a familiar voice.

"...Please, have something to eat."

"No, I'm not hungry," she replied, her voice weak.

"Then at least have some milk. Please, for God's sake."

Unable to refuse, she made her way to the room and sat on the bed. As her eyes adjusted, she saw a kitten staring at her, looking just as confused.

She tilted her head slightly, wondering, "Is this you, Grandma? Yes... it's you! How beautiful you are! But why can't I move? Why? I want to hug you, Grandma."

Grandma could hear was the sound of a soft meow, but she couldn't tell where it was coming from.

Then, another woman entered the room, holding something in her hand.

"Have this, while it's still hot," she said.

Grandma took a sip. "I think it's milk," she murmured. "And that woman… she must be our neighbor. That means I'm in their house."

Grandma suddenly started crying. "Where are you, my poor baby? What did I do wrong that my baby has to face all of this alone? Why, God? Why are you so cruel to her? If you wanted to take someone's life, you should've taken mine. But why her? Why my baby?"

"Grandma, what are you saying? I'm here, right in front of you. Why are you saying those things?"

Tears welled up in her eyes. She too started crying, but for some reason, the only thing she could say was the constant meowing. She couldn't move or speak like human. All she could do was watch and listen.

When Grandma's eyes fell on the kitten, she saw it was also crying, its little face filled with confusion. The kitten tried to make some sounds, but it couldn't form words.

Grandma gently shook her head and went to sleep, her heart heavy with sorrow. The kitten struggled, but nothing seemed to change.

As Grandma lay there, something suddenly clicked.

The kitten was her and she was no longer human. She was in the body of a cat. The meowing she had heard was her own attempt to speak.

She was about to say something when her eyes fell on Grandma. It looked as though she was out of breath. Tears filled her eyes as she realized what was happening. She could do nothing to help.

All she could manage to say was, "It's me, Grandma. Kia."

Grandma looked at her for a few seconds, her tearful eyes filled with a faint recognition. Then, with a final breath, she closed her eyes… forever.

The door opened, and people entered the room, only to discover that Grandma had passed. They began to carry her body outside.

"Please, don't take her away from me! Please, take me with her..." The words choked in her throat.

And then everything went blank.
