At the medical department.
"The session is over. Report back to Sector Three next week.
So far, Yuto had kept his mouth shut despite the captain's cold, detached, and aloof attitude, but he couldn't be silent anymore. He didn't fill out a medical department application just so that he could attend a three-hour lecture once a week and take a quiz. He gritted his teeth, his calm composure breaking for the third time that day. he finally forced his mouth open and spoke.
"Surely you're pulling my ponytail, captain," Yuto said calmly, although the twitching of his eyebrow told a different story.
No one could irritate him more than the woman in front of him.
"Pulling your ponytail?" she said with amusement.
"Yes. Surely you can't possibly be serious? Just one five-hour class a week?" he said, confused.
"You sure have a mouth on you for someone who showed up late to the session," she said.
Yuto snarled. Just how long would she hold that over his head? he suspected it was because she couldn't find anything damaging in his file, but he may have been full of himself. It's unlikely a medic captain would take the time out of their day to go over a genin's file to pick at him in class. It was likely that she had no actual reason for it, but she was just an asshole and saw Yuto as an easy target. Her being a captain made her his superior, so he couldn't do anything even if he wanted to.
"If you looked at the medical trainee agenda, which you could have gotten printed out if you showed up early, you'd notice that it explains what goes into attending more classes," the captain explained.
Yuto refrained from speaking again, seeing the other trainee leave the large room. He let out a deep sigh, grabbing his map and schedule, being the last trainee left in the room. He was about to leave the room, but was stopped by the captain's voice.
"Hold it, brat," she said.
Yuto sighed, turning towards the captain.
"Here," she said, tossing him two small pamphlets.
"This is the rules and regulations pamphlet, and the medical trainee agenda. Why didn't you give me these when I walked in?" Yuto said with a frown.
"Again, this isn't the academy. You're in the best medical training facility in the five great nations. We expect a certain level of diligence, responsibility, and perfection in every task; in the operating room, one mistake can mean the end of a patient's life, let alone on the battlefield. Believe it or not, I was not picking on you, and I was not making an example out of you either. They may have babied you in the academy and handed you everything you needed, but here at the medical department, we expect initiative and dedication. We don't hand you textbooks; we expect you to take notes and invest contribution points into the information we have at the exchange center. That's how you become a certified medic; there are no shortcuts," she explained pompously. Every word was spoken like nobility.
Yuto was surprised by her response. For all five hours of the lesson, he had resented her for her beligerant attitude and her constant remarks about his "tardiness."
Now he had found out that he was acting like a coddled little brat. He let his emotions get the best of him after his encounter with Kabuto, as he was overwhelmed by the prospect of encountering a certain death situation; in a bathroom, no less. He started complaining instead of doing what was expected of him. he expected everything to be handed to him because his grandfather provided him with everything he needed, giving him resources and guidance. She was right, this wasn't the academy, and he was a shinobi aspiring to be a medic-nin. He needed to get his act together and build his reputation with the captain, and now was the perfect time to leave an impression before next week's session.
"I see, I have no excuses, I'll be sure to make approvements," Yuto said genuinely.
She crossed her arms. "Good, now go on, I don't have all day," the captain said dismissively.
"Of course," Yuto said, giving a small bow before exiting the room.
Yuto would have to wait until next week to get his quiz results. He doubted he would fail, but by that time, he'd be in the genin corps, unless a team offered him a position before his file update. He had decided to see how much research material he could get with his contribution points from his B-rank mission.
He approached the medical department's exchange center. It was similar to the mission center, though it was much smaller and resided in a small section of the medical department. He caught sight of the woman at the desk, with black hair like his and charcoal black eyes. Yuto looked at the woman curiously as she resembled a Uchiha clan member, but he brushed it off. He'd finally spoken, noticing the women's impatient look.
"Hi, I'm Yuto Suziki, a new medical trainee. I'm interested in extra lessons," Yuto said.
"Mum, Yuto Suzuki," she said, typing his name into the computer, "and your license number?" she said questioningly.
Yuto simply pulled out his shinobi registration card as he wasn't a fan of saying his license number out loud, especially with Kabuto lurking around the medical department. Yeah, no, thank you.
She typed for a few seconds longer before speaking. "Mum, let's see. Ohh, you have quite a lot for a genin. You're definitely eligible for a few weeks of material. Still, since you're a genin, I'll let you know these won't sustain you very long, so if you plan on gaining your license within the next year and a half, do well to visit the exchange center for more material at least every week.
Yuto worked in customer service and was aware of her attempting to convince him he needed more material than he actually did, but unfortunately, that was the case for him. he simply didn't have the time to be stuck in the program when he could be gaining valuable experience working on actual patients and proving his worth as a medic.
He gave the women a nod. "I'd like all the material, my current balance allows," Yuto said.
"Okay! Due to the procedure, I'll need your signature on this document.
"Yes, of course," Yuto said, leaning his arm on the counter to write with the pin, scribbling his signature.
"Alright, you can visit the department's archive for the material," she said, handing him a receipt.
"Once you turn in the receipt, you can gain access to the material," she finished.
Yuto gave her a nod, grabbing the receipt. "Thank you," Yuto said before walking off.
He pulled out his map of the department, looking over the contents for the exchange center. He spotted it and circled it on the map as he knew he'd be returning. Though he was now faced with a dilemma, as he wouldn't be able to earn contribution points for six months in the conditioning period of the Genin reserves. While he was thankful for the B-rank mission he took on Gemma's team, the only thing he got from it, other than the pay and experience, was the contribution points. And while the sum of points was larger because of the rank of the mission, it wouldn't last for six months. Yuto let out a sigh as he walked down the long halls of the medical department. When he had first arrived in the Naruto world, he was a complete mess. He was sorrowful over basically losing his whole family from his previous life; he was scared of fighting on the battlefield, and he was overwhelmed by the thought of both. After he met his grandfather, things became easier because he had newfound guidance and a parental figure. Not only did his grandfather's presence increase Yuto's reputation among the populace in the village, but he also offered to train him and provide him with a C-rank ninjutsu.
After Yuto graduated from the academy and was offered a position on Gemma's team, he jumped at the opportunity, but after Gemma's promotion, the team was disbanded, and Yuto's chance at a bright future dimmed. Now, on his first day as a medical trainee, he was faced with a dilemma that would shape his future, and if he didn't find a way to gain contribution points, his medic training would stagnate, and he'd be no better than an academy student.
When Yuto finally made it to the other side of the medical department, where the exchange center was, He was met with two push-open doors with an Enter sign framed at the top of them. He stepped forward, pushing the doors open, catching sight of the big oval-shaped counter in front of the middle-aged receptionist, and the chunin guards stationed in the corners of the room. He assumed the chunin guards were there to protect the valuable information from coming into enemy hands.
He stepped up towards the desk, feeling the chunin guard's eyes on him. he locked eyes with the third receptionist for the day, though she didn't look as grouchy as the receptionist at the front desk of the department. Yuto slapped his receipt on the counter before speaking.
"I'm Genin Yuto Suzuki. Here for medical material," Yuto said.
She gave a nod, reaching for the receipt and giving it a look over. "You're a genin with enough contribution points for this much material," she said, surprised.
"Yes, I was quite fortunate," Yuto said.
"Hum, good for you," she said, placing a few scrolls and a few measuring cups on the counter.
Yuto gave her a questioning look. "Measuring cups?" he said.
"The scrolls will have detailed explanations on the chakra theory and chakra application. You'll need to measure liquids and granular materials. The directions will also be in the scrolls," she explained.
"I see. Thanks," Yuto said thankfully.
She gave a nod. Yuto grabbed the scrolls and tucked the small measuring cups in his ninja pouch before leaving the exchange center.
He left the department at 12 o'clock on the dot, his scrolls already sealed in his everyday carry scroll. He needed to check up on his good friend Itachi and visit his student Ten-Ten. If he was being honest, he was a half-ass teacher and barely had time in his schedule to teach her anything valuable. A few sword kata and some chakra control lessons hardly made him a good teacher, though, in his defense, Kakashi only taught Team Seven tree walking. Of course, he would make sure ten-ten earned anything he taught her, yuto didn't want her to end up like him.
Later, Yuto left his house after washing up and storing his medical material. He now wears a white kimono along with his traditional Japanese sandals, going for a modest look. He decided he wanted his casual wear to show his wealth, despite all of his pocket money coming from his grandfather. he made his way towards the Uchiha compound as he planned on giving Itachi a visit.
He walked down the streets of Konoha, spotting the familiar mop of spiky blond hair. He was a bit suspicious, but once he caught sight of the whisker marks imprinted on his chubby face and the disdainful looks he was receiving, he knew for a fact who it was. Right there was Naruto Uzumaki, the future hero of the ninja world and the future 7th Hokage. he was honestly disgusted by the villagers that treated Naruto the way they did, but he didn't expect much from them anyway. After just four months in Konoha, he could tell how much of a shit hole it was, but that's how every city was, even in his previous world. The leaf village was the size of a city and was to the fire country what New York City was to America, and while New York City was a beautiful city, the people were stuck-up assholes.
Yuto was on the other side of the street and locked eyes with Naruto's ocean blue ones. he contemplated speaking to the boy, but was aware of the position Naruto held in the village. While it wasn't known by the public, it was known to the hire-ups of Konoha that Naruto was the son of Minato Namikaze. he was also the nine-tails jinchuriki and the village's military weapon. He figured the higher-ups won't suspect a loyal practitioner of the will of fire to be conversing with the nine-tails jinchuriki for personal benefit.
He sighed before deciding he'd give some inspiring words to the young jinchuriki.
He put on his five-star acting skills, scowled, and walked across the street toward Naruto. He frowned, seeing that he was barely taller than a five-year-old.
"Something on my face?" Yuto asked, raising an eyebrow with a hand on his hip, looking down on Naruto.
"Umm, no, your face is fine," Naruto said a bit timidly, as he had never had someone actually approach him in his five years of living in Konoha.
"Then what the hell are you looking at?" Yuto said his face contorted into contempt. Yuto wanted the security detail that would likely be guarding Naruto to see him as a stuck-up asshole, so when he graciously gave Naruto some advice, it would be depicted as chastizing instead of helpful guidance.
Naruto staggered back a little at Yuto's response, as he was a bit startled by the disdain being thrown in his face, but his face quickly shifted into anger, clearly offended by Yuto's snarky attitude.
"Hey, what's the big deal?" Naruto said, growling.
Yuto's act slipped, seeing Naruto's little face attempting to appear intimidating as Yuto let a small smile grace his face.
Naruto's face relaxed for a second, shifting to confusion.
He growled, "What are you laughing at?" Naruto said.
Yuto tried his best but couldn't hold back his chuckle. "So he has a little bite," Yuto said, amused.
"Urhh, you wanna go?" Naruto retorted, stepping forward, clenching his small fist.
Yuto scoffed. "Don't get ahead of yourself, brat. Not only am I twice your age, but I'm a trained shinobi," Yuto said pompously.
Naruto's face relaxed as he became curious. "You're a ninja?" he asked, squinting his eyes suspiciously.
"Yes, that is correct, a registered shinobi of the leaf," Yuto said, pulling out his headband from his ninja pouch and putting the forehead protector forward for Naruto's eyes to see.
Naruto's face shifted to shock and awe, seeing the shiny medal before his eyes. he looked a little bit timid before he spoke again. "Umm, shinobi san, can I wear it, just for a second?"
Yuto was actually amused by how fast the kid switched from angry to timid. He honestly wondered if he was bipolar.
Yuto put a finger to his chin in a thinking motion. "I suppose I can," he said, handing the headband towards Naruto.
Naruto beemed, holding the forehead protector before he slid it across his head. It fitted loosely despite his attempts to tighten the already tight knot, and it fell over his eyebrows.
"Looks like you're a long way away from gracing a headband for yourself," Yuto said with a chuckle, seeing the headband now covering Naruto's eyes.
"You just wait, I'll become a ninja and then I'll become the hokage, then everyone will have to stop disrespecting me and look up to me, believe it," Naruto said with determination.
"Quite the dream you got there. Though I'll have you know it's not as easy as you put it. Unable to become a Hokage, you must first gain the recognition and trust of the village; only then can you become the Hokage," Yuto said a hand on his hip and a resolute expression. He had heard that from Itachi in the anime in his previous world, and now was the perfect time for him to use the quote. He doubted it would do anything to the storyline.
"Hum, oh, I get it," he said, his eyes understanding.
"Shinobi san, you're super cool with your ninja wiseness," Naruto said with a bright smile.
"Yes, of course I am," Yuto said arrogantly.
"Well, if that's all, goodbye," Yuto said.
Naruto frowned a little, putting his head down, making the headband still on his head slip down further. This was the first time he actually had someone speak to him and not curse his name, despite Yuto's upright attitude.
"Oh yes, I forgot, my headband," Yuto said, taking the sloppily tied headband that was wrapped halfway around Naruto's face.
Naruto hesitated a little before he spoke. "Oh yeah, shinobi san, what's your name?" he said, his blue eyes gazing up at Yuto's.
"Hum, I'm surprised you don't know already,"
"Yuto Suzuki," Yuto said with a light smile.
Yuto saw Naruto looking at him with anticipatory eyes, as he was likely waiting for Yuto to ask him his name.
Yuto sighed. "What's yours?" Yuto asked.
"I'm Naruto Uzumaki, you know," Naruto said with a bright smile, clearly excited to tell someone his name.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever, fishcake. See ya around," Yuto said disinterestedly, as he walked away.
Naruto frowned, seeing the retreating form of Yuto, but was still excited to receive acknowledgment even if it was just by one person.
Yuto had a shit eating grin on his face, as he had just met "the" Naruto Uzumaki. While he wasn't a super fan, he was a fan of the anime in his previous life, and actually meeting him, despite him being a five-year-old child, was quite an experience. While talking with Kid Naruto was amusing, he didn't want to stand there any longer with all the people of Konoha staring at him, talking with the demon.
After a while, he made it to the Uchiha compound as he approached the Uchiha family's modest home.
He knocked on the door a few times before hearing footsteps approaching the door.
