ELENA POV
The room was quiet.
I'd spent the night alone, which is what I'd wanted. What I'd needed. But the silence pressed against me, making it impossible to sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Damien's broken face or felt Adrien's lips on mine or heard my own angry words echoing back at me.
You don't get to be jealous. You gave up that right when you kidnapped me.
Had I been too harsh? Too cruel?
No. I'd been honest. And they both needed to hear it.
But that didn't make the guilt sit any easier.
By morning, I was exhausted and desperate for a distraction from the mess I'd left behind at the apartment. There was only one place I wanted to be.
The clinic was quiet when I arrived. Early in the morning, the halls are mostly empty except for nurses doing their rounds.. They nodded as I passed, and didn't ask questions.
