Chapter 50 - Shifty and Such

"Well, this should work if I have the right ingredients."

"Do you have the right ingredients?"

"Nope."

Dials did in fact have the ingredients, but he was just trying to get time alone with Lia and Sugar. BB would later figure this out but never told a soul besides his diary.

"I believe that's your way of telling me that I got to go get it."

"Indeed, it is. Now, go fetch."

BB let out a sigh before he left the hut with a recipe of Dials's choosing. It wasn't to kill BB because of how difficult it was, but it was difficult because of how rare those 'ingredients' were. Dials couldn't help himself to not let out a chuckle.

"So, what is the reason he never talks about you?"

"Oh, it seems you took after your father's side, always so blunt."

"Well, I'm adopted. You know, I looked at pictures of him when he was young and you two look exactly alike."

Dials couldn't help but smile. Being in a conversation with his grandchild would please him to the moon and back.

"Yes, we got that a lot."

Lia decided to bud into the conversation at what seemed to be the best possible time.

"Are you really a genuine, real-deal, state of the art genius? All the history books say that BB is the smartest person to ever live but I got to say, him being tricked is very interesting."

"That's what they say, but if you ask me, I just think in a different way."

"A different way? May I ask if I'm smart enough to be your grandson? From your evaluations of course. Back at the orphanage we'd always hear about how BB was constantly forced to take in information but nowadays the curriculum wouldn't touch that with a ten-foot pole."

"What?"

"BB told me that you're the smartest man he ever met and that you were like a father to him."

Sugar had found that he was feeling some sort of connection to Dials. He had long black hair and pale skin. His eyes were large and grey as they stared into the soul of Sugar. Sugar had a bowl cut and was given a nice tan. He was thin but not as nearly as thin as expected of the average member of the family that Dials had built in his own image.

"I know that, but my methods were for the best because I only ever put BB through such things because the world needed it. You remind me of Lighter."

"Lighter? The guy trying to kill me?"

Dials had figured out that they were lying to Lia and went with it. He knew Sugar wouldn't lie without good reason and he knew that he admired BB enough to follow with it. But he also knew it to be a fool's errand to follow someone like BB. That was why he replaced him instead of tracking him down and putting him back where he was.

"Yes, both of you were very good boys who would constantly compare themselves to another person. You probably have an ego that throws you into trouble. You want to be more. May I go on? There's a big world out there and I hope you don't turn out like him. Poor kid."

Suddenly, Sugar felt a tear roll down his face. That wasn't his doing. Lighter had been the crying boy. He lived a full life but couldn't make it past ten years old. That was where he and Sugar diverged. Sugar would grow but stay the same, Lighter would stay the same but never mentally grow up.

"What is happening? What did you do to him?"

"Madame, I assume you're that York girl's descendant of some kind. What was her name again?"

"How did you-?"

"I do Punnett squares in my head for fun and have figured out almost every case that was unsolved. Please stay quiet and get comfy whilst this happens, dear. This could be very time consuming. Lighter's outbursts are very long."

"Okay? What is this guy's problem? Is he psychic?"

"What a tragedy that you had to stoop to this level. You're just sad. You hate when you could've changed the world. You even took my position. You're a fraud and you know it. Walking around in a crater expecting that to be your footprint. Also, madame, you were thinking aloud."

Sugar opened his eyes to see someone next to him in the torture device. He had brown hair that had faded through time, and he was wearing a light blue suit as he had a slender build and was very handsome. He had short tidy hair that he would change often. Somehow, he was the only person to figure out what BB had done in his crime spree. In some form of twisted crying for help, he would embezzle money from the E.P.F. and commit crimes that were small in comparison to BB's but were infinitely more brutal.

"Please, tell me-"

"I won't. You'll never hear those words. You're an evil of the world that I dedicated my life to destroying. You're not my son."

"B... But I'm your son."

"Leave this boy forever."

"No, I won't. Nothing will ever make me leave this body."

Those words Lighter wanted to hear, they were very simple and had made his stomach churn. He would move the worlds for the sake of it. All to have the closure from those words. Those words being, I love you.
