Chapter 77 - Harley's Monster

Harley was busy feeding the monster. It was a very dull creature who had been feasting on the previous intruders. Harley had caught a deer in a trap and was going to feed it along with the gangsters' remains to the monster. When the other invaders had arrived, the monster was completely healed from what little wounds it had sustained from the skirmish. When it looked down at its hand that was bruised from it accidentally running into the door, it let out a small laugh.

"Well, that's a fun little thing you got there."

Harley, despite his flaws, loved the monster like any father would love their toddler if it was a mixture of others and had violent outbursts.

"Hurt."

"I bet it does. Are you hungry?"

"Not yet."

The monster was high maintenance. Harley had consistently replaced parts that gave out and had refilled its stomach no problem for years on end. But it was exhausting. Stress on his mental and organization's health was rampant. The creature was powerful. Strong enough to push the cars behind the church. Steam would come off his body constantly from how much fat he was burning so he had to stay in the basement most of the time. The air conditioning was always on so that way he could walk around the larger church at night without being hurt too bad.

"What's that?"

The scientist left the basement and walked through the church before meeting the group. Sears wasn't going to be taking any chances; thus, he opted for Alexandria and Scott sneaking in through the back whilst he and Mistress dealt with Harley.

"Hey there, anything you would like to tell me about my friends?"

"What? I think you have the wrong guy."

"That's what they all say."

"Sleep."

Sears didn't go under. Mistress had been reinforcing his mind for the entire trip to inadvertently fight against the madness of sleep deprivation and the hypnosis Harley was working with.

"You first."

In the same moment, they had entered through the back window.

"Ow, ow, ow, why would you do that?"

Without a second to spare, when he heard the sounds of Alexandria crawling in the kitchen window, he hurried across the floor to make it to the basement before they did.

"Hey there, little friend."

Scott found the mad scientist and began to beat him senseless. The monster, hearing the noises of Harley's screams, let out a scream of his own. Alexandria, hearing the commotion, went for the door and threw it open to see the monster. She whispered a silent prayer and took a step backward.

"What is that thing?"

Without a moment to spare, the monster went into attack mode. It's long, bony arms reached out at her faster than she could react. If it wasn't for Mistress being a psychic, she would've been a memory. Using said psychic abilities, she pushed the monstrous creature down the stairs and into the basement once more. Using all the abilities in his arsenal, Harley made Scott go to sleep and hurried back to the basement once more. Mistress grabbed the man and flung him to the left. Without a moment wasted, he hit the stained-glass window and flung him out of the church. Later on, Harley would find that he had broken a few things on the landing.

"S…save… f-father."

Using up all the calories he had collected, the monster ran up the stairs. In the darkness of the unlit church they could see something was off, it was a blur. Alexandria felt a pain in her arm as she tried to raise any fighting spirit she had left to combat the monster.

"Where is it?"

Using darkness as its cloak, the monster struck first at Alexandria. Using what little strength she could, she tried to block the attack by reverse gripping her dagger and holding it outward.

"Behind you!"

Scott was next. He was paranoid (though justifiably) whilst inside the church. For a brief moment, he was paranoid outside the church. Without missing a beat, the monster was behind him. Gone from being a creature that moved about the air it attacked via slapping him aside. Hearing a snap in his arm, Scott looked down quickly and saw his arm snap backwards. Little did Scott realize, he had also been moving further to his right. With the brief interaction, Scott was through the wall and into the overgrown grass in the yard.

"Perfect!"

Using the second the monster was distracted; Sears fired two shots from his M1911 into the monster's skull. Black bits flew out of its head before it turned around to face the mercenary.

"Pain not good."

Sears's eyes widened. He was scared, terrified, and bamboozled all at the same time. The monster was right in front of him, he tried everything he could to muster any strength.

"Heeeeelp! Help me!"

All he could do was scream. Mistress tried to hold the monster in place, but it wasn't as nearly as paralyzed as Sears was.

"You're welcome."

"Thank you. We'll get a rotisserie chicken after all this is done."

Pulling himself together after Mistress yelled at him, Sears moved to hand-to-hand combat against the creature. He used his left hand to pull the creature's right hand towards himself. Working quickly, he placed himself under the monster's arm before slamming the tall beast to the ground.

"Is nobody going to let me out of here?"

Joey was still in the trunk. He had been tired and to be frank, in a lot of pain. When Scott was limping towards the entrance of the church, he found that Joey was in a car parked behind the church. Using his psychic abilities, he popped the trunk and tried to heal both of their wounds as fast as he could.

"Why were you in the trunk? You're supposed to be fighting with us."

"Not so fast. The two of you will not intervene in my affairs anymore."

Harley was healed. Joey was beginning to wonder why before he charged at him. Scott decided to hang back and ponder on the seeming invulnerability of Harley. His wounds had healed faster than Scott could with his psychic abilities.

"He must have some sort of magical ability as well. That means that he isn't psychic. I wish BB was here. He would know what to do."

Scott, in a childlike curiosity fueled by bloodlust, proceeded to break Harley's bones.

"Make sure to not stay too close to it!"

Alexandria, Sears, and Mistress were busy with the monster. Sears had been beaten and Alexandria was almost going to pass out. Mistress felt like she was going to hurl from how much she had to use her abilities.

"I'm feeling a little woozy…"

As her eyelids felt heavy, it was her turn. She slapped herself awake from what was a long blink. When she finally got a scope of the area around her, she was terrified of what stood in front of her, the monster. Using its bare hands as a counter to Sears's judo and Alexandria occasionally using her dagger to swat the monster away. After twenty minutes of the monster moving back and forth, it began to feel warm. Like someone was using a flamethrower on it.

"Pain… back… hungry."

The monster was using too many calories and was overheating. It had been getting tired from the ordeal and Sears was about to throw the monster to the ground again before it sped off into the woods.

"What was that?"

"The monster."

Everyone involved was either in pain, tired, or both. Sears drove back to the cabin. He was tired.
