Cherreads

Chapter 8 - Till Thursday

I lay on the ground, not sure if I was dead or alive.

But there was one thing I knew.

Those seven guys were back.

All the professional wrestling enthusiasm vanished from my mind.

There was only room for logic now.

I squatted and looked around.

The room was covered in some kind of white mist.

It smelled black.

Hold up,

Before you think I am crazy, I am quite serious about this.

The same way Azim had an aura of blackish white in the dream, I felt the same about these seven guys.

Crazy, right?

I could barely see due to the white mist but I could sense them moving.

They were looking for me.

Or at least I thought so until I saw them moving towards my bag.

Immediately, I remembered Sally's words.

It's the head they want.

I crouched into a corner of my room.

Not that my room was large but I had some stuff scattered on the floor making it feel like a Call of Duty Warzone map.

Goated game.

I reached for my phone which was in my pocket.

Don't judge me, I sometimes sleep with it in there.

I know it's dangerous but I am still alive.

Or am I?

I started a video capturing the entire room and balanced the phone on the ground using a can of tuna fish.

How did that get in my room? Ha ha ha.

Yeah.

I decided to get into the bathroom and possibly call for help.

But my right foot kicked another can.

This time, sardine.

And one of the guys looked back and saw me.

What frightened me wasn't his eyes or his bone-chilling look,

It was his striking resemblance to the Azim I had seem in my dream.

I stifled a gasp and realized he was the one who had touched my shoulder during the incident at Azim's house.

His eyes held a particular look.

A look of sadness.

But he was smiling.

Azim.

Was that Azim?

Suddenly, one of the guys shrieked.

They had been going through my bag the entire time and they had seen something.

I wondered what it was.

Whatever it was, it frightened them and they bolted.

The Azim looking one followed

I was stupefied.

What made them run?

I carelessly stumbled towards the bag and cautiously opened it.

Then I realized what the matter was.

A piece of paper in which I had scribbled some nonsense on.

THE NEXT DAY

Monday, oh yeah, Monday.

The most dreaded day of the week.

We should probably rename it Mournday.

That would be fitting.

Nothing much happened at school, except for being flooded with notes and lessons.

Lunch break felt like a glimpse of heaven but it only lasted a short while and we went back to trying to complete the twenty-five page Biology note that due for submission on Thursday.

Except that we knew we wouldn't and couldn't.

I was personally going to pay someone to write it for me, not caring about the amount charged.

There was no way I was going kill myself over a note that would be used to wrap pastries or even worse once I graduated.

Hell yeah.

Then, I got cornered by Hadiza, Miranda and Parvati,

Three girls who had absolutely no interest in me.

They just wanted to copy my Geography project.

Terrible!

My mates were having multiple girlfriends why I was having multiple...well...smiles.

Everywhere good.

I had texted earlier on Rightful Squad detailing the incident and sent the video of what happened and also a picture of the paper that had "scared" those guys.

And as expected, my friends were horrified.

Adewale wanted us to come to his apartment again so we could speak about it in detail but unfortunately, he had some guests from his maternal side over.

So we decided to meet at an Indian restaurant near Jumai's house on Thursday.

Perfect!

Neither of my parents would be around till Sunday.

Sally was worried about my safety but I assured her that I had photocopied the frightening note fifty times and had it plastered around the house so if they did come, they would be too terrified to enter.

That made her laugh nervously.

Tochukwu expressed his concern about the head but I assured him that all was well.

Adewale and Jumai just texted stay safe like we were in some kind of pandemic.

Corona Virus was in the rearview mirror.

So, no further action until Thursday.
