Chapter 42 Elite Canned Food

This wave of enemies, including the patrol dog, totaled five. Even so, the ten-person team dared not be negligent, as this was an Epic-level dungeon within Pirates of the Caribbean.

The hound charged forward first, its eyes glowing with a feral intensity. Bruso raised his flintlock and fired a shot; the bullet accurately hit its target. Due to inertia, the hound was knocked back several meters, but to everyone's surprise, it didn't die. The hound shakily stood up, shook its body, and charged towards the group again.

"Holy moly, that dog's HP is way too high!" one of the players shouted.

Bruso had hit the dog's neck, a vital spot, yet it still hadn't died. Although Bruso was an NPC, he was an Epic-level NPC generated by the Game Producer System. This showed that the monsters in this dungeon were significantly enhanced. NPCs are considered part of the dungeon logic; as long as you believe the NPC you recruited is strong enough, you can bring him into the dungeon because he also occupies a dungeon slot. If possible, a player could even choose to go solo with nine NPCs, provided they have the strength to manage them.

Speaking of that hound, just as it stood up, Bruso delivered another precise headshot. This time, the dog never got up again. The live stream comments were flooded with "666."

"As expected of Bruso! I watch the live stream every day, and Epic-level NPCs are just different."

"At least so far, he's the best flintlock-wielding NPC I've seen among many streamers."

"Much more reliable than that fan team member; I should have joined the team."

"Yeah, I thought he was a pro, but he turned out to be a clown who couldn't even pull aggro."

The hound fell, and three melee guards charged forward, engaging in battle with the group. Another guard stood in the distance, steadily reloading his flintlock.

"Bruso."

"Received, Captain," Bruso replied.

Bruso raised his flintlock again and pulled the trigger. The bullet accurately struck the distant guard's head, stopping his reloading motion abruptly. A clean headshot. For human NPCs in this game, unless they possess supernatural abilities, a headshot is almost always a one-shot kill.

Lena, wielding her legendary quality scimitar, lunged forward and struck one guard's heart with a single, fluid blow. Then, she fired another shot with the flintlock in her right hand, finishing off a second guard. The remaining guard was easily dealt with by the other team members. In other words, this wave of monsters was effectively handled by Lena's core strength.

"Is this really an Epic-level dungeon?"

"I feel like I could do it too."

"Leni's equipment is too good; with two legendary weapons, it's inevitable to one-shot standard monsters."

Just as everyone was preparing to move forward, a sharp whistle suddenly blew inside the prison.

"Intruder!"

"Intruder!"

System Notification: You have been discovered. Please find Captain Jack and rescue him while avoiding pursuit. Be careful not to be surrounded by guards.

As the whistle sounded, everyone's hearts tightened. A countdown appeared overhead, indicating that reinforcements would appear after a certain period.

"We need to hurry!" Lena commanded, quickly moving through the stone passage.

During this time, the prisoners in the cells were all crying for help, their faces pressed against the iron bars.

"Save me!"

"Let me out!"

"Please, kind sirs, I will be grateful to you!"

System Prompt: You can choose to release these prisoners. These individuals will also have different impacts on subsequent gameplay. Please choose carefully.

"Leni, should we release these NPC prisoners?"

"Let's find Jack first; we don't have that much time," Lena replied, focused on the main objective.

Everyone reached a corner, and another squad of guards charged over. It was the same combination of hounds, melee, and ranged units. This time, with previous experience, the team quickly dealt with them. They searched the entire floor but couldn't find Jack's location.

"There's a staircase ahead; let's check other floors," Lena led the way forward.

At this moment, she suddenly sensed danger, and a red marker appeared above her character's head. Reacting with the speed of a pro-gamer, she immediately pressed the dodge button. A massive guillotine axe fell from the air, landing exactly where she had been standing. If she hadn't reacted in time, she would probably be a headless corpse.

A burly man emerged from the shadows, his face hidden behind a metal mask. He held a large axe in his hand: "This design is flawed. It didn't kill anyone. It seems I need to change the position of the guillotine."

Warning: Encountered Level 42 Elite Guard Captain.

This elite guard was clad in heavy plate armor and had a robust physique; he clearly wasn't someone to be trifled with.

"I'll go!"

The previous clumsy musketeer, eager to prove himself, fired at the elite guard first. A bullet shot out, but the projectile hit the thick breastplate and failed to penetrate.

"Ah!?" The musketeer was stunned. It was his first time seeing an elite monster that didn't even show a scratch from a direct hit.

What greeted him was the elite guard's counterattack. He casually pulled a small throwing axe from his waist and flung it.

"Watch out!" Lena shouted.

However, not everyone possessed Lena's reaction speed. The musketeer couldn't react in time and was hit squarely in the forehead by the small axe. His health bar bottomed out instantly, and his character died with one blow, his soul spiraling into the sky. Just like that, the ten-person team became nine.

"Everyone, be careful not to get hit by the axes. This elite monster has ranged abilities," Lena reminded the group.

The team members hid behind the thick stone pillars. Bruso stood behind cover and pulled the trigger. A projectile shot out but still didn't penetrate the heavy armor. The guard's head and body were both completely encased. Penetrating it wouldn't be easy.

Seeing this, Lena quickly moved forward, and another flying axe greeted her. She dodged with a slide, closed the distance, took out her legendary quality flintlock, and shot the guard in the abdomen where the armor plates overlapped.

With a crisp sound, the bullet pierced through. This was the charm of legendary quality firearms: high damage and armor-piercing properties. The elite monster was injured and entered a brief dazed state. Taking advantage of this gap, Lena swung her scimitar, hitting him in the neck.

This strike directly knocked off the elite guard's helmet, revealing a scarred, bald head. The elite guard quickly counterattacked with his large axe, repelling Lena.

"Everyone, attack together! Aim for his head!" Lena commanded.

Everyone rushed forward, providing Lena with the time she needed to reload.

"Everyone, clear the way!"

Receiving the instruction, the team parted. Lena aimed her flintlock at the elite monster's exposed head and activated a continuous firing skill. Three projectiles flew out; two of them hit, striking the elite monster's head. The guard's movements came to an abrupt halt, and he fell to the ground with a thud.

The elite monster was killed, and several members of the team glowed golden, having leveled up. At the same time, a pile of equipment dropped.

Rare quality armor

Excellent quality axe

Rare skill book for throwing axes

"Those who need it, roll for it," Lena said.

This was the most reasonable distribution method: rolling dice. Although Lena had made the greatest contribution, she wasn't greedy. Ultimately, the items were divided among the team members, and everyone was beaming with joy. This made the fans in the live stream quite envious.

"I wish I had gone too."

"I want that skill book."

"It's great to have a pro like Leni leading the team."
