Chapter 48 Spring Festival Premiere
The winter holiday season arrived in Germany, and a festive atmosphere settled over the city. Inside the apartment, Matthias Engel had put up a bit of decoration to mark the occasion—a nod to his transmigrated roots.
"How do these decorations look?" Matthias clapped his hands, looking at the festive banners he'd hung near the door.
"Very good," Maria Schmidt noted, walking by. "It makes the place feel much warmer."
The conversation soon turned to the big event: the movie premiere. Originally, Matthias planned to buy three movie tickets so they could all go together the next day. However, Maria and Laura both had plans; they were scheduled to attend an official offline promotional event with the film crew. Since they were busy with professional duties, Matthias only bought one ticket for himself.
On the first day of the release, the local cinema complex was bustling. Matthias went alone, bought a large soda and some popcorn, then found his seat. With ten minutes until the screening, Matthias, as the primary producer through the Game Producer System, naturally wanted to experience the atmosphere firsthand and gauge audience feedback.
The theater gradually filled up. To his left sat a couple; to his right, three university students. As soon as the students sat down, they began animatedly discussing Pirates of the Caribbean.
"I've been looking forward to this ever since the trailer dropped," one said.
"Me too. I've already reached level thirty in the game," another replied.
"After the movie, let's team up and try to clear that new dungeon."
"It's rare for me to take time away from the game just to watch a movie; I really hope it doesn't disappoint."
Soon, the lights dimmed completely. A high-resolution Pirates of the Caribbean game logo flashed on the screen, followed by the opening shots of the film.
A large ship sailed on a misty sea. A young girl stood on the deck, singing a haunting pirate melody: "Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me..."
This was Elizabeth when she was young. Suddenly, a wooden plank drifted nearby with a small boy clinging to it. The crew rescued him—this was the future blacksmith, Will Turner. Elizabeth found a gold coin around the boy's neck: a cursed piece of Aztec gold.
The gold coin had been taken by Will's father from a cursed treasure chest. It was because of this missing coin that Barbossa and his crew could not lift their curse. The coin was imprinted with a skull, and the young Elizabeth, wanting to protect the boy from being branded a pirate, hid it away.
The scene shifted. Elizabeth and Will Turner had grown into adults. After Will arrived at Royal Port, he became an apprentice at a blacksmith shop. Although he and Elizabeth were in love, the disparity in their social status kept him from confessing his feelings, while Elizabeth's father intended to marry her to Commodore Norrington.
Then, a hilarious scene appeared that broke the tension. In the bustling Royal Port harbor, everyone turned to look at one man: the Pirate "King" of the Caribbean, Jack Sparrow.
Accompanied by deep, swelling background music, Jack sailed his ship into port. However, his entrance was unusual—his small boat was almost entirely submerged, and he stood triumphantly at the very top of the mast. At the exact moment the mast slipped beneath the water, he calmly stepped onto the wooden dock.
"Haha, Captain Jack is so funny!"
"That's him! I've talked to him in the game!"
"Unbelievable, he literally sailed a sinking ship into port."
Jack landed at Royal Port but was quickly stopped by the dockmaster.
"Wait, you need to pay one shilling for me to allow your ship to dock, and you have to tell me your name," the dockmaster said.
Jack glanced back at his "ship"—now nothing more than a bit of wood swaying in the tide.
"I'll give you three shillings, and we won't mention names," Jack replied smoothly.
"Welcome to Royal Port, Mr. Smith," the dockmaster said, pocketing the coins.
The audience roared with laughter. Matthias chuckled as well; it had been a long time since he'd seen the story played out this way, and even as the producer, he found the cinematic adaptation refreshing.
During a ceremony at the fort, Elizabeth's corset was so tight she couldn't breathe, causing her to faint and fall into the sea. The impact triggered the gold coin, sending a pulse through the water that allowed Barbossa to sense its location. That night, the Black Pearl sailed into the harbor, and after a terrifying bombardment, they took Elizabeth away.
From that point on, the plot mirrored the core narrative found in the game, but with a grander, cinematic scale.
"So that's how the undead curse works," a viewer whispered nearby.
"I didn't expect Will and Elizabeth to have that kind of history. Poor Norrington, though; he seems like a decent guy."
The two-and-a-half-hour movie left the audience wanting more. Matthias was very satisfied. While there were some slight differences from the original Earth version due to Director Kevin's specific filming techniques, the soul of Pirates of the Caribbean was perfectly preserved.
As the lights came up, many people stayed in their seats to watch the credits and talk about the experience.
"It was so good!"
"I'm coming back with my friends tomorrow."
"I want to go find Captain Jack in the game right now!"
Hearing the feedback, Matthias finally felt the weight lift from his chest. He got up and left the cinema, passing several film critics and media bloggers who were already recording reactions on their phones.
"Guys, I just saw Pirates of the Caribbean. It was incredible, you have to see it!"
"Elizabeth is stunning, and Jack Sparrow is the most unique character I've seen in years."
Initially, on the first day, the screening slots for Pirates of the Caribbean and the rival film "Shadow Chasing" were equal. But as word-of-mouth spread across social media, the demand shifted. Cinema managers, following the money, began giving more screenings to Matthias's film, while "Shadow Chasing" and others saw their slots compressed.
Matthias's phone vibrated. It was a message and a photo from Laura.
"Our premiere event just ended, and the audience response was great, hehe!"
In the photo, Laura and the lead actor stood in the center of a crowded theater, smiling and greeting a sea of fans.
