Chapter 117 - Chapter 116 Microweapons

Chapter 116 Microweapons

Omega raised his hand to stop them. "Don't retrieve them yet. This enemy is more cunning than we imagined. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a way to infect gunships through these intelligent mechs, and eventually the fleet in space!"

"Really, my lord?" Logician Cofer asked in surprise, seeing that the precious intelligent mechs were intact.

"Skol, what did you glean from this intelligence?"

Skol, who had been in intelligence work for so many years, laughed. "The enemy possesses high intelligence. They could clearly penetrate high-alloy walls, but haven't attacked the intelligent mechs. They must still be in the research institute!"

Upon hearing this, everyone present was utterly shocked. They stared wide-eyed at the countless pieces of information transmitted back by the intelligent mechs, but they couldn't detect the other party's existence at all. Bright was sure that their enemy was transparent and therefore invisible.

After reviewing all the information from the research institute, Omega still felt something was off when he saw the perfectly intact liquid containers again.

If this terrifying, transparent, snake-like enemy could spread the hemorrhagic virus, how did it manage to retrieve six strands of blood from perfectly sealed jars?

"How do you think the six streaks of blood left the sealed liquid containers?" Omega asked, looking at the thoughtful group.

Skol knew that Omega had Terminator power armor with space jump capabilities. "Could the enemy possess the ability to use teleportation or perhaps telekenesis or some other psychic power?"

The other company commanders nodded in agreement, finding it highly likely.

Even Horace, the Chief Librarian, was uncertain. "The mysteries of psychic energy are not fully understood, but such is a possible ability!"

Bright, as the company commander of the data repository, scanned countless photos and documents before looking at the alloy opening the enemy had drilled and said, "If the enemy can teleport, why not just move in directly instead of drilling a hole?"

Horace bluntly stated that the other party might not be able to teleport, but only to retrieve objects from a distance. Bright still felt something was off. He believed that the answer to the Primarch's question was definitely not this simple.

As the group discussed the matter, Dillion inadvertently brought up the apothecaries' room, wondering why the enemy didn't sneak in through a hole they'd already created.

The Alpha Legion was full of intelligence experts, and even the meticulous Simi felt that something was amiss with the research institute incident. Omega did not believe that bloodstains in a sealed liquid container could simply vanish into thin air.

He therefore listed several possibilities. The first was that the enemy could have remotely taken the bloodstains. The second was... Omega was startled when he thought of this possibility.

He suddenly realized the enemy wanted them to avoid studying the bloodstains. Otherwise, why would they care so much about the blood streaks in the jars when they didn't care about the large amount of blood in the entire research institute?

It was important to understand that they had only randomly extracted the six blood streaks. There was no possibility that they were treasures or somehow special.

"Have the intelligent control machine check the microscopic detection device and see what these blood streaks are!"

During the monitoring, an intelligent robotic soldier appeared before the microscopic detection device.

Its mechanical eyes focused on the high-precision microscope and discovered stored information. All that was needed next was to transmit the detection information back to the data database.

Even without that information, the bloodstains scattered across the research institute's grounds could still be collected for testing.

But as soon as this action began, it became clear that a large amount of metal on the intelligent mech was corroding and cracking. The incredibly powerful, intelligent mechs were visibly collapsing like rotten leaves, and the red alarm light flashed briefly before they fell to the ground.

This scene unfolded clearly before everyone's eyes, leaving them stunned and speechless. Upon seeing this, the logician Cofer was greatly alarmed.

"What kind of monster is this?"

Everyone knew how powerful the intelligent mechs were, but one was destroyed in just a few seconds. Everyone present was shocked. Bright opened his mouth wide, seeing such an incredible monster for the first time.

At this point, Omega no longer believed the enemy was hiding in the shadows.

The decaying state of the intelligent mechs was as if something was on their bodies that they simply couldn't see. Since the intelligent mechs had opened the room, the other party didn't want them to know the results of the microscopic detection.

What lay within the common blood vessels was essential to this unknown enemy. This completely contradicted Omega's hypothesis that a powerful enemy was spreading the hemorrhagic virus.

Viruses spread widely and are uncontrollable infections. It would be too much trouble to contain them little by little afterwards.

Therefore, Omega speculated that the hemorrhagic virus was actually a sophisticated miniature weapon used by the enemy. Due to its high production cost, it would require retrieval after infecting and killing people.

The company commanders couldn't help but look at the Primarch.

Omega said softly, "That blood is suspicious. Have the AI-controlled mechs shoot at the surrounding pools of blood, and split up to continue testing the blood. I want to see what they're trying to hide!"

The monitoring footage showed six intelligent machine guns poised to fire at a pool of blood on the ground.

An intelligent mech arrived at the miniature inspection station once again, and an astonishing scene repeated itself. This intelligent mech, like the previous one, quickly decayed and collapsed to the ground.

Even the most clueless among them realized there was something wrong with the blood, while Skol wore a smug smile. For the Alpha Legion, the more someone tried to hide something from them, the more the Alpha warriors wanted to find out, especially when they were just one step away from knowing the enemy's secrets.

As the other intelligent mechs fired into the pool of blood on the ground, signs of decay and collapse quickly appeared on their bodies, and they all fell to the ground shortly afterward.

Although the enemy was mysterious, Bright handed over the data to the Data Think Tank for prediction and analysis of the changes before and after the intelligent mechs inspected the research institute; the analysis report also mentioned the possibility of microweapons in the blood.

Among the many predictions, one possibility was that this unknown enemy was so small that it could corrode any metal alloy. They were highly intelligent and extremely dangerous entities to the Imperial Army, Astartes, and the Adeptus Mechanicus.

After a large volume of data was uploaded from across the Reinharden continent, it became clear that the hemorrhagic virus had affected every corner of the entire continent.

Omega speculated that the countless people infected with the hemorrhagic virus across the continent also meant that microweapons were everywhere, and the scale of these microweapons was terrifying.

When Bright handed him the report again, Omega asked, "The number of microweapons on the continent of Reinharden is enormous. Has any information been detected about how these things exchange information?"

"My lord, do you think the hemorrhagic virus isn't a biological weapon, but rather a miniature mechanical weapon?" Bright asked in surprise. He thought that possibility was both possible and terrifying. After all, viruses were living things, and now to find out it was not a biopathogen, but a highly sophisticated weapon, it was...

He paused. "Is there a way to figure out exactly what's in the blood?"

"The enemy can penetrate any metal, and we can't think of a sealing device for the time being. The Magos are also trying to come up with a solution!"

Omega was aware of everyone's distress these past few days. They could have deciphered the other party's secret simply by testing their blood, but the other party could penetrate any metal defenses.

"Dropping a small hydrogen bomb can destroy a small city. The more delicate and microscopic something is, the more susceptible it is to a powerful impact. These microweapons should be damaged by the impact of a hydrogen bomb explosion! We'll take the opportunity to recover some for analysis and uncover the enemy's secrets from the damaged microweapons!"

Bright was taken aback, not expecting the Primarch to be so fond of using hydrogen bombs, as if any intractable problem could be solved with one.

Thinking about the Primarch's methods, he suddenly said, "The purpose of dropping a hydrogen bomb is to destroy the structure of microweapons. Perhaps we only need to use high-energy radiation to target a few streaks of blood!"

Omega paused in his thoughts, 'That makes...sense. Why bomb a city when you can just... oh god, am I becoming a pyromaniac?

"Let's do it that way!" Omega nodded in agreement.

He had just felt that as the Primarch, he would be severely injured even if he survived a nuclear bomb, and that unknown entity would also be severely damaged if it were to be hit by a hydrogen bomb. He didn't expect his subordinate to offer a more elegant solution.

Time passed little by little.

Seven days later, the Data Think Tank and the Adeptus Mechanicus collaborated on a high-energy nuclear-radiation experiment involving the subtle, eerie blood, and they succeeded.

Affected by high-energy nuclear radiation, the blood vessels completely lost their activity, and the unknown and eerie enemy did not appear.

The apothecaries finally breathed a sigh of relief, discovering an astonishing secret from the lifeless blood using the Legion's highest-level precision microscopic detection instruments.
