A week later, in a big luxurious hotel,
Damien held a glass of whiskey, while beside him, Jossy took a sip of wine. This was their second UCLA reunion, and his old classmates were all here, some with dates, others without.
Noah sat across the room next to his date, a tall, beautiful brunette who was already turning heads. She laughed lightly at something he said, and he caught himself enjoying the ease of the moment. But his attention kept drifting, inevitably, toward Damien and Jossy.
Damien noticed and quickly walked over to Noah. "I see you took my advice seriously," he said, voice smooth, holding out his hand. "Having someone by your side looks good on you, Noah."
Noah gave him a polite smile, but his gaze involuntarily drifted toward Damien's date. She had a presence that rattled him. Maybe bringing Calie here tonight had been a good idea, no one would notice him being fixated on another man's wife.God knows, he tried not to look, but she held his attention long before Damien ever noticed her. Before she became Damien Rothwell's wife or even his girlfriend, he had long been staring at her. He had planned to ask her out back then, and had shared this with Damien. That's why he left for Oxford because he couldn't believe that Damien went ahead and asked her out when he knew how Noah felt about her. Noah respected her choice and stayed away, but even now, after two years of being away nursing his heartbreak, she still had that much power over him and he could read her mood just by looking at her. Right now, he could tell she didn't want to be here.
A loud voice interrupted his thoughts. "What is it like being married?" one of the classmates asked Damien and Jossy. "What is it like being Damien's wife? With all that money and power, do you even need to work?"
