The ballroom glittered as usual, the orchestra playing softly, and the media on alert, capturing every glamorous moment.
Damien Rothwell was in the middle of shaking hands with a group of donors, laughing as they made some joke about last year's gala.
Then, suddenly, the music stopped.
"Damien Rothwell!" A Woman's voice called out, sharp, and commanding.
As Damien turned to face her, she continued.
"My name is Detective Mendez, NYPD Special Victims Unit. Mr. Rothwell, you are under arrest for Felony. Multiple counts of physical and sexual assault."
Gasps erupted. Guests covered their mouths, some whispering in shock, while others raised their phones to record the unexpected turn of events.
"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, the court will appoint one for you. Do you understand these rights as they've been read to you?" The detective continued.
