Chapter 605 - Chapter 1: Obscurus Separation Surgery (Part 2)

Of course, generally speaking, St Mungo's does not admit Muggle patients unless they have suffered severe magical injuries. However, in this world, everything with the aim of profit will eventually give way to money.

To get that Muggle old man treated, Lupin even put a light curse on him to ensure he met the admission criteria.

Now he is about to be discharged, so Lupin needs to handle the discharge procedures, and Vid has to personally meet the reputedly skilled scientist.

Of course, he wasn't worried that the other party would refuse his invitation—any ordinary person who's experienced magic wouldn't be able to resist the allure of this mysterious world.

Not to mention that he had just experienced the torment of a serious illness, the despair of watching his body gradually lose control and step by step towards death. No one would want to go through it a second time.

As for wizards, although immortality is hard to achieve, there are indeed ways to extend life. Even if one eventually faces death, various magic potions make this process much more dignified and comfortable than for Muggle elders.

Vid wrote back to Lupin and then looked at the remaining letters.

Invitations to unknown events, invitations to banquets from unknown wizards, inquiries about Alchemy, doubts about his Alchemy, requests for donations to certain groups or for gifting poppets, confident love letters hoping to date him, and journalists wanting exclusive interviews...

Vid basically looked at the names on the envelopes and then tossed the letters aside, grabbed the Cube, and let it help in responding. He went downstairs for breakfast.

Today's breakfast was a French meal: Earl Grey Tea with a hint of bergamot fragrance, hot milk, whole wheat bread with nut butter, thin crepes, boiled eggs, and a fruit platter.

His mother was spreading nut butter on the bread. Seeing Vid sit at the table, she handed him the bread and asked: "Aren't you planning to watch the Quidditch World Cup? It's all over the news lately."

Of course, Fiona was referring to the wizarding news on the Flow Mirror.

"I don't have time recently," Vid said. "Besides, the matches at the beginning aren't very interesting; the selection matches are where it gets fun."

Ferdinand took a sip of coffee and said, "I remember you said yesterday you were going out."

"Yes, just to see a friend," Vid said. "It's Mabel. She's been troubled by an Obscurus for a long time. Professor Dumbledore invited an expert to see if they can cure her."

"An Obscurus can be cured?" Ferdinand asked in surprise.

"It's still in the trial stage. We hope so," Vid said.

The Greys exchanged a glance but didn't ask further.

"We hope so" ... It doesn't sound very hopeful, but no one said it out loud, as if fearing that saying it would make it true.

"Everything will go smoothly; kind people are always blessed by God," Fiona said. "By the way, when is your ride coming?"

"No one is picking me up, Mom. I'm going by myself this time," Vid saw the worry in his parents' eyes and smiled, "I'm already fourteen, and I learned Apparition. It's just Hogsmeade; I'll be fine."

Besides, he would carry his closet space with Mikhail inside. Unless encountering a wizard of Grindelwald's level, it would be hard for anyone to hold him down.

Ferdinand was silent for a moment but did not stop him, only saying, "Let us know when you arrive so that your mother and I won't worry."

"I know, Dad," Vid said.

The Riddle Family did not have Anti-Apparition spells because wizards can only Apparate to places they have been before. As long as they don't host dangerous and unfamiliar wizards at home, it's safer than the outside.

Moreover, now Dobby was at home.

Vid, having hired Dobby, specifically wrote to the Ministry of Magic to report it. Therefore, when using magic at home, the Office for the Prohibition of Misuse of Magic couldn't tell if it was Vid, Dobby, or occasionally visiting Moody casting the spells, allowing Vid to be more at ease at home.

After breakfast, Vid gathered the necessary items, turned on the spot, and his figure vanished from the room.

In an instant, he appeared in a quiet alley in Hogsmeade, beside the Three Broomsticks Inn. Vid could hear pleasant music coming from inside.

He pressed the Communication Pea to assure his parents of his safety and then waited for a while until he saw two people Apparate directly to the street in front of the Three Broomsticks, both carrying a suitcase.

The two stood in place, looking around.

Vid walked out of the alley and said with a smile, "Good morning, Mr. Scamander, Steven."

Scamander smiled and nodded, "Good morning, Vid."

"Oh, Vid!" Steven beamed, "Have you been waiting long?"

"No, I just arrived too," Vid said. "Follow me; Remus' house is this way."

"Oh, then I get to see Sirius Black?" Steven said expectantly, "I read about their story on the newspaper two years ago and have wanted to meet them for so long!"

"Unfortunately, Sirius is out for business and hasn't been back for several days," Vid said.

Steven was indeed disappointed, his eyebrows and eyes drooping.

Scamander looked at his assistant's childish behavior and smiled tolerantly.

The group soon arrived at Lupin's house, where Lupin and Dumbledore were present, and even Madam Pomfrey was there.

Mabel, of course, had been waiting for this day. She clutched the hem of her dress tightly, looking at the elder who seemed to hold her fate, so nervous that dark energy almost emanated from her body.

"Relax, child," Scamander bent down and said gently, "Let's assess your situation first, then choose the safest treatment method. I won't harm you; trust me, okay?"

Mabel pursed her lips, looked at Dumbledore, Lupin, and Vid, then nodded. The dark energy around her retracted.

"Good girl."

Scamander smiled, then, along with Madam Pomfrey and Dumbledore, led Mabel to the inner room to examine the Obscurus situation.

"Please have a seat, Steven. Would you like something to drink? Vid, want some hot chocolate?"

Lupin invited them to sit and then waved his magic wand, setting the snacks and drinks flying to the table.

"If the Obscurus can be cured, it would be a first in the Magic World," Steven said anxiously, "But I'm worried if it'll go smoothly."

After all, the last little girl who underwent the 'Obscurus separation' operation died in the end.

"If those three inside can't heal it, then there's no one else in the world who can," Lupin said, seemingly calm, "So the only thing we can do is trust them and wait."

Vid watched as Lupin said this while pouring milk meant for coffee into carrot juice, knowing that Lupin wasn't as composed as he appeared.

Holding his drink without drinking, he thought for a moment and asked, "Would using Felix Felicis improve the odds of success?"

"No, that's not possible," Steven sighed, "I asked Mr. Scamander the same, and if needed, I could get a bottle of Felix Felicis. Of course, Mr. Scamander has his own sources."

"But Mr. Scamander said that Felix Felicis not only brings good luck to the user but also makes people reckless and arrogant."

"Separating an Obscurus requires precision, rigorousness, and detail; any emotional shifts could have massive impacts."

"Hence, he prefers not to use magic to borrow luck, ensuring his mind stays clear."

"And another thing, Vid," Lupin added, "Felix Felicis can help people make the right decisions, but not necessarily the decisions the user desires—"

"When confronting an Obscurus, what if allowing the creature to die with its host is the best choice? Magic would push things in that direction."

"So don't rely on this potion, Vid, only use it when absolutely necessary."
