Chapter 985 - Chapter 77: Patching Up (Part 2)

"Yeah... so it was a dream... hahaha..."

"I knew it, how could it be real! Hijacking, a giant jellyfish, people flying in the sky, countless little dwarfs running out of a wardrobe..."

"Exactly, exactly, I'm dreaming, so are you all people in my dream?"

"Nonsense! The owner of this dream is me!"

People looked as if they had suddenly realized something, their fear seemed to have vanished, and their wounds no longer hurt. Some even ran to the space by the wardrobe, trying to squeeze in and take a look, only to be slapped away by the jellyfish!

—Is it... is it a dream?

Thomas O'Brien thought hazily, almost ready to accept this explanation and escape the absurd reality.

But then, he saw the young man with an electric drill in his palm kneeling beside Vid, and whispered:

"If they all think they're dreaming, will it save us some trouble for the aftermath? But I still feel like these guys... they really look like they're about to go crazy?"

Vid saw the fire below was gradually being controlled, withdrew his gaze from the hole, and looked at the crowd who had relieved smiles, but bloodshot eyes, gently nodded:

"You're right. If left unchecked, these people's minds might suffer great trauma, and it will be easy for them to confuse reality and fantasy in the future."

"Then... you mean..." the young man whispered as if seeking instruction.

"Go and get a bottle of Life and Death Potion... and Healing Potion from the space," Vid said as he stood up. "It's time for this beautiful dream to end."

"Got it!"

The young man with the drill grinned and quickly headed towards the wardrobe space. Some crazed passengers attempted to pull him along to experience the beauty of the dream, but he pushed them away decisively.

Only then did Vid have the time to look at the crack in the side wall of the plane, currently blocked by the jellyfish.

As he approached, the jellyfish poppet stretched out a tentacle, wagging it like a little dog in front of Vid. It retracted only after he petted it.

Vid focused and observed for a moment, then reached out to touch the grim crack on the cabin wall.

Theoretically, all damaged objects can be repaired with the spell [Reparo], but in practice, it's not that easy. Otherwise, the Room of Requirement wouldn't be filled with so much junk.

The spell is extremely effective for repairing simple, small objects like glasses, window panes, or cups, making it seem as if "time flows backward" and restoring them perfectly.

But magic isn't omnipotent, and the use of the Repairing Charm has its limitations—

If the damage is caused by a curse, the effect of the spell is greatly reduced, and it might not work at all, like with those discarded tables and stone statues at Hogwarts;

Besides simple little things like quills, most magical items cannot be directly repaired with a spell, such as Two-Sided Mirrors, Magic Wands, or Disappearing Cabinets;

The magical damage sustained by living organisms is even more complex to repair; otherwise, Moody wouldn't be in his current incomplete state;

And the Repairing Charm is just as ineffective on complex machinery made by Muggles. Wizards wouldn't attempt to repair a car or a radio with a spell because afterward, only the exterior might appear "repaired", while the internal precision components and electronic systems cannot be perfectly restored.

Fortunately, the damaged part of this plane is merely the cabin wall itself. The Scourer seemed unaware of the plane's structure, or maybe he didn't have enough time. The destruction he caused in haste luckily didn't damage any vital lines or pipes.

The "nerves" and "vessels" remain intact, having only suffered some "flesh wounds", which is why the plane can maintain its flying posture after the hole is blocked.

Unfortunately, such a giant object has long exceeded the scope of what the Repairing Charm can perfectly handle.

Even if Vid's magic ability far exceeds his peers, he can only perform a superficial and rough patch. Combined with the Confundus Charm upon landing, he can ensure that ordinary people at the airport don't notice anything amiss, but he can't make the plane truly Reparo.

Under the spell's effect, even if the plane looks brand new from the outside, once it takes off and endures high speed and pressure, it might suddenly break apart, the fuselage disintegrating.

Suddenly, a thought involuntarily flashed through Vid's mind: if Dumbledore were here...

With the headmaster's unfathomable magic power and understanding of the essence of magic... even though he wouldn't understand the subtle and intricate internals of a plane either, could he "convince" the metal to restore itself according to his will?

Or might those time particles, capable of causing a "time reversal" effect, when applied to the plane, restore it to its state from fifteen minutes ago?

Perhaps because Vid was deep in thought, an aura of focus and solemnity emanated from him, causing the wizards in the cabin to tense up.

"Vid."

Michael asked nervously, "Is there... another serious problem?"

—Could this ill-fated plane still have a deadly hidden hazard no one has noticed?

Vid withdrew his palm and sighed: "I was just thinking, repairing this hole isn't an easy task."

Hearing this, everyone relaxed, unable to suppress their smiles.

"Honestly, there's no need to be so meticulous, Vid."
