Chapter 12 - Chapter Twelve

Kael

For someone who just got shot, I should have been thinking about my life but all I could think about was making sure that Seraphina was safe. When Alexa announced that we were headed to Zone Three, it was more than enough to jolt me out of my daze.

Taking Seraphina to Zone Three would be a big mistake. It would ruin all my plans and efforts and even though it was a relatively better option to the White House, I couldn't risk it.

I turned to Seraphina and could see her face reeling with all the questions popping up inside her head. I was going to explain everything to her later but right now, I had to deal with Cleo who was already being a pain in the ass.

When we finally got out of the car, I took in the familiar environs of the White House. It was the place I stayed and trained for my revenge against the monarchy of Agrevia.

This was one of the many buildings that was a part of my inheritance. During my training days, I met Cleo whose father was equally powerful and with her constant visits, we had grown closer and I let her visit anytime she wanted.

She knew a lot about me and even my reason for working as a common bodyguard. Part of me was worried that in her immature state, she would divulge my secret to Seraphina but I'd have to worry about her later.

Seraphina needs to get rest. I didn't like how her face looked really tired and tense.

"Take her Cleo, we'll talk in my room." Cleo's expression immediately became more receptive and she turned to Seraphina with a dangerously mischievous expression on her face.

"This way." Seraphina briefly looked at me with an 'I hope you know what you are doing' expression before disappearing into the building.

My phone rang and it was then I fully felt the pain from the bullet wound. Without checking the phone, I knew who it was but I couldn't answer it. Not yet. Something wasn't clear and the feeling nagged at my gut.

I entered the building, taking the stairs to my room. I opened the door and the familiar smell of my room filled my nose. Feelings of nostalgia overwhelmed me but I was too in pain to fully revel in them.

I settled on the bed, first taking off my bloodied shirt which plastered on my skin in painful relief.

"Fuck." I breathed. I could take out the bullet now and properly tend to the wound. I had learnt that much in the military and I was sure to have first aid kits in every corner of the house. Being in the military teaches you not to take chances.

I grabbed the first aid kit from the drawer beside the bed and flipped it open. The metallic smell of antiseptic hit me first, sharp enough to make me flinch. My fingers were slick with blood, and every movement sent a dull throb through my side. I pulled out the forceps, took a deep breath, and steadied my hand.

The bullet hadn't gone too deep, but it was close enough to make me curse the universe. I pressed down around the wound, biting back a groan as I felt the metal shift beneath my skin. One wrong move and I'd bleed out before sunrise.

"Come on," I muttered to myself. "You've had worse."

I dug the forceps in and fished out the small, blood-coated bullet. It clattered into the metal tray with a soft ping, and for a second, all I could do was sit there, breathing through the pain. My vision blurred, but I forced myself to keep going. I poured antiseptic over the wound, the sting nearly knocking the breath out of me.

"Damn it."

When the worst of the burn faded, I cleaned up the mess, grabbed a roll of gauze, and started wrapping my torso. My hands were shaking, but the muscle memory kicked in, tight enough to hold, loose enough to breathe. By the time I was done, sweat had drenched my back.

I leaned back against the headboard, chest rising and falling in a ragged rhythm. The room was quiet except for my breathing and the faint hum of the air vents.

My bloodied shirt lay on the floor and for the first time that night, I allowed myself to close my eyes.

Seraphina was safe. That was all that mattered.

"I could have bandaged you up, you know." Cleo's sultry voice echoed through the room.

How long had she been standing there?

I lifted my gaze to meet her own. She had a mischievous smile at the corner of her mouth.

Trust Cleo to be turned on even in the worst situations. I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted to have sex right now.

Cleo and I had been something of a couple at one point. Sex with her was intense and awesome and she took my cock with impressive performance.

Usually before I had sex with anyone, I would always inform them of my length but women had a thing for wanting to test me until it came to it and suddenly they couldn't take it anymore.

I had worried about Cleo until one night, we did it. I didn't do slow passionate fucks, I loved the roughness and animalistic style of sex. When I fucked, I didn't fuck for passion or flimsy things like love; I fucked for release, for the primal feeling that erupts through me when I'm pounding that pussy.

Cleo met my need as I did hers but she'd gotten pretty annoying. Started to want more out of our relationship even after I told her that I couldn't give her the love she was looking for.

"What are you thinking about?" She said fully entering the room.

"I missed you Kael, so so much."

I didn't know what to tell her so I kept my eyes on her face.

She walked seductively to where I leaned and grazed her hands on the base of the v-link leading to my trousers.

"I need to shower now Cleo, we can talk later."

But she stood, her hands remaining on that same spot and unbiddenly, my erection rose.

"You seem tense, let me take care of that." She said, kneeling before my straining heat, her eyes filled with passion.
