Just as players remember from the storyline, at this moment, Gambling God Jonouchi is engaged in an intense duel with Duelist Kajiki Ryota, who uses an Ocean Deck, in the Aquarium.
Since he happened to be passing by, Youyu also joined the crowd of onlookers to watch the Gamble God's duel.
First, it was Jonouchi's turn to go first. Jonouchi was super cool and set a card before ending his turn, which seemed like he had a hand mishap.
It looks like Jonouchi-kun isn't fully powered up with Bonds at the moment. In the DM anime, it seems only Jonouchi experiences such real hand mishaps, and whenever this happens, President Haima always mocks him, saying something about how talentless Normal Monsters are.
Every time Haima gets his three White Dragons and Fusion in opening hands, he seems to be implying: "Normal Monster! You can't even use 502 adhesive, need someone to teach you, no wonder you have no talent!"
But Kajiki on the other side seems to be an equally matched opponent, summoning an 800 ATK Normal Monster, "Flying Fish," right at the start. One salty fish lunge and Jonouchi takes a massive 800-point hit, almost knocking him out for good...
To say the least, Kajiki Ryota was a national semi-finalist duelist but still brought such an ambiguously meaningful Normal Monster in his deck... seems akin to the player Aqua-Type starter deck's "The Furious Sea King."
The duel continues. Next, Kajiki summoned a Level 6 Normal Monster "Amphibian Beast." Although it's a 6-star monster, it has an ATK of 2400, roughly equivalent to one Red-Eyes Black Dragon... (Red-Eyes: @!%&)
Jonouchi didn't flinch either, activating the trap Fairy Box in response to Amphibian Beast's attack, making his monster dodge into a box full of holes to evade attacks at high speed... colloquially known as whack-a-mole.
However, here's where the godly move came in—Kajiki, in the midst of the monster attack, directly played a Field Magic "Umi," drowning the entire Dueling Arena, including Jonouchi's Fairy Box, in seawater.
Then Kajiki said Jonouchi's monster is stuck in the Fairy Box and would drown since it can't breathe, forcing it to float to the surface, allowing Amphibian Beast to hack at Jonouchi's monster with both box and beast...
The crowd of onlookers was w(゚Д゚)w by this sight.
"???"
"Is there something wrong with this guy?"
"Can you even play a Field Magic halfway through the battle step?"
"Of course you can, just go read the rules of Duel City... but this business about drowning really surprised me."
"What the heck, can't breathe... So if I activate the Continuous Trap 'Macro Cosmos,' does that mean all monsters on the field will suffocate on the spot?"
"No... before that, they'd likely explode due to imbalanced internal and external pressures..."
Yet this fantastic duel (can also be read as a nonsensical duel) was only just beginning.
Kajiki Ryota summoned the monster "The Legendary Fisherman," leaving Jonouchi baffled as he couldn't see the monster, to which Kajiki laughed heartily and said, "My monster's hidden in the sea, of course you can't see it..."
Jonouchi accepted the setup willingly, but soon claimed he saw through "The Legendary Fisherman's" disguise.
He explained since the battle field was in an Aquarium, the virtual image projections of the duel's water had mixed with the Aquarium's pool water.
Kajiki cleverly exploited this point, hiding his monster in the Aquarium pool. Since "The Legendary Fisherman" rides on a shark, and there happened to be a performing shark in the Aquarium pool, he disguised his summoned monster as the performing shark...
The expressions on the faces of the players watching at this point evolved to ( ̄△ ̄;)
What... on earth is this!? Is this really the King of Games!? Pretending your monster is a shark is something else...
Hold on, come to think of it, with a real shark swimming by, it's incredible you guys can stand there calmly and play cards...
This "fantastic" duel ended with Jonouchi's victory after all.
Players who hadn't seen Yu-Gi-Oh! DM were astonished, never witnessing such unconventional moves in all their years of playing cards.
But seasoned anime fans responded, "Sit down, sit down, basic maneuver."
"You newbies are just too easily surprised. You've never seen the duel between Yugi and Kajiki Ryota back in the day."
Young Kajiki tried to bullshit Yugi by hiding his monsters in the sea, but a furious Yugi, straight-up summoned a monster to attack the moon, causing it to explode and trigger a tide recession, revealing all of Kajiki's monsters from the sea...
Compared to that duel with the Bluff King, these two are practically just playing around; you call this bullshitting?
Nevertheless, this way, Jonouchi won two Puzzle Cards from Kajiki, now having all six needed to advance.
According to Duel City's rules, a duelist with six cards gains the right to advance and can refuse challenges from any other duelists within the city.
Logically, with six cards collected, Jonouchi should definitely stop dueling and advance directly to avoid any more trouble.
But what makes Jonouchi who he is, is that he doesn't play by the rules...
"You!"
With Rare Cards and Puzzle Cards in hand, Jonouchi eyed his target among the crowd.
The gaze of the onlookers followed... landing on Youyu.
"You're that guy from the shop last time...?"
Jonouchi racked his brain to remember his name.
"Youyu."
"Ah yes, that's it!" Jonouchi raised his Duel Disc, sporting a confident smile. "Last time, I lost to you; I was too careless."
"Let's duel again! This time, it won't be that simple."
The crowd of players began to get excited.
"Surprising? They're still at it? Do NPCs have no stamina limits?"
"Well, it's the Gambling God; the man who took a direct hit from Divine Breath Cannon, of course, he's enduring."
"Wow, Jonouchi is going to duel with Youyu? Is this some kind of hidden main quest in the game?"
Youyu glanced at the battle-thirsty Jonouchi.
He didn't mind dueling, but...
"By the way, don't you already have six Puzzle Cards?" Youyu asked, "You could advance directly without dueling, right?"
Jonouchi was dead serious: "But I lost to you. I promised Yugi that I would become a real Duelist before settling things with him. If I avoided you just to advance, I couldn't become a true Duelist!"
Youyu: "..."
Seeing him so serious, he kind of made sense?
"Alright then." Youyu shrugged and stepped forward. "I already have four Puzzle Cards, just need two more. Well, I accept this duel."
