Field Magic - Umi!
As the card is inserted into the Duel Disc, the 3D Imaging System immediately activates. The azure ocean water sweeps across the ground like an endless expanse, with silver-white waves rising and falling. The waves crash against the surrounding metal walls like tall walls, and the system even simulates the impact and the shattered effects of the waves.
Standing with his arms crossed in this simulated water body, Kaiba just snorted lightly, "Using 'Umi' tactics, huh? Hmm, while it's a powerful strategy, there's nothing novel about it.
Honestly, hearing how D Department was hyped up like it's something out of this world, I thought you'd have something new. But it looks like I'm quite disappointed."
Building a deck centered around the 'Umi' field, focusing on Water attribute cards is quite a common tactic in the Duel World right now. The most notable representative is undoubtedly Kajiki Ryota, a strong duelist who has made his mark in Duelist Kingdom and the Duel City Tournament.
Inspired by this high-level player, the mainstream construction of Ocean Decks now largely follows his strategy.
"Using Umi's ability to hide monsters in the ocean to confuse opponents, huh?" Kaiba sneered, "Do you really think such common little tricks work on me?"
President Haima indicates that he won't be fooled; he's seen all the tricks of the Ocean Deck.
However, Officer Fujino just smiled mysteriously without saying a word.
It seems like there's something fishy going on.
Egawa draws another card: "I use 'Hammer Shark' and 'Spined Gillman' as sacrifices, to satisfy the summoning conditions for this special summon monster…"
Kaiba frowned.
Special summoning conditions that require two Water attribute monsters?
Is there such a monster?
And at that moment, both monsters are surrounded by a swirling torrent, shooting up into the air as pillars of water. The two water columns intertwine in the air and finally dive downwards, bombarding the sea surface and exploding into a massive spray of water.
"Citadel Whale, Summon!"
The moment the card is played onto the Duel Disc, the scene is quite terrifying. The surface of the water surges dramatically, large volumes of water are blasted high into the air, raining down like a storm.
Yet when the spray settles and the sea returns to calm, it's revealed that Egawa's field is still empty, with nothing visible.
"Eh!?" It's obvious that Mokuba is shocked, "Where… Where did your monster go!?"
Where's your monster? Didn't you just summon one?
Could it be in the Other Dimension?
Kaiba, however, seemed unsurprised, merely narrowing his eyes: "Because of the effects of the Umi field, it's hidden in the ocean, isn't it?"
If Youyu were here, he'd definitely complain—
—Why are you all so calmly accepting this setup, you scoundrels!
"Exactly, Mister Kaiba." Egawa calmly stated, "The ocean is mysterious, and it may hold any danger and challenge within."
Well, it might not just be nonsense; it's just an animation effect with anime characteristics.
The effect of the physical card Field Magic "Umi" is to increase the attack/defense power of Fish-Type, Sea Serpent-Type, Thunder-Type, and Aqua-Type Water monsters by 200, while Machine-Type and Pyro-Type monsters, which are in opposition to water, have their attack/defense power decreased by 200.
However, the "Umi" in the animation does not possess such clear-cut effects.
The animation card Field Magic "Umi" seems to only have the effect of projecting a sea onto the field, allowing one's water-type monsters to hide inside it so that opponents can't see them...
"When Citadel Whale is summoned, the Trap Card - Sea Stealth Attack is added to the hand from the deck." Egawa placed a card into his hand, and calmly said, "Then set a card on the field, turn ends."
A Set Card appeared at his feet, and was soon covered by waves, vanishing from sight.
"Hmph, you're just full of tricks." Kaiba scoffed, "My turn, draw!"
Kajiki Ryota is somewhat a well-known Duelist, and Kaiba had watched his duels. Thus, Kaiba had already grasped the basic characteristics of that "Umi".
Though monsters hidden in the sea can't be seen, what's hidden are merely the monster's form and its attack power and such, but as per the duel's rules, that monster still exists, it can be attacked and can be targeted by effects as well.
The old nonsense rule "monsters that can't swim can't attack in the sea" that Yugi faced was patched by a version update released by Kaiba Company after the Duelist Kingdom concluded.
So, whatever monster the opponent summons, just attack boldly without fear!
Sweeping the opponent with absolute force is the approach Kaiba has always adhered to in dueling.
"I summon Fencing Fire Ferret, in attack position!"
The small white monster appeared on the field clad in flames, its tail blazing fiercely as if it were whipping up a storm of fire in the air, its end was a fiery red steel blade.
[Fencing Fire Ferret, Attack Power 1700]
"At this moment, the effect of 'Replicard LAD' from my hand activates!" Kaiba continued, "When a monster is summoned, this card can be specially summoned from my hand! (Animation Card)
When special summoned with this effect, Replicard LAD's Attack, Defense, and Level become the same as that of the summoned monster!"
The translucent dragon was called upon the field by the projection system, its eyes seemingly reflecting the form of the Fencing Fire Ferret beside it, its transparent body soon morphed, simulating the same shape, and then ignited with flames, its tail extending the blade of the ferret.
[Replicard LAD, Attack Power? → Attack Power 1700]
"As expected of my brother, summoning two monsters at once!" Mokuba played his role of the sidekick.
"Hmph, just because you've hidden the monster, that monster still exists." Kaiba snorted, "If the eyes can't see, just break through with sheer force!
Battle! Fencing Fire Ferret, attack the monster hidden in the deep sea, Citadel Whale!!!"
The fiery monster started to move, its long tail whipping up a fiery vortex in the air, shooting towards a certain area in the calm sea.
Yet the superficially calm sea swiftly launched a counterattack!
The water was quickly agitated, a fast-moving shadow was swiftly closing in from beneath the sea. With a splash, a snow-white spray erupted on the sea surface, the high-speed afterimage dragging a long splash, broke through the water.
...That is a missile from the deep sea!
Seemingly with eyes, it locked onto its target, heading straight for the Fencing Fire Ferret in mid-air.
A series of explosive sounds, fireballs successively burst in the air, the small monster was instantly blasted into pieces by the missile barrage.
[Kaiba, LP 4000 →LP 3350]
A damage of 650 Life Points. Fencing Fire Ferret's attack power is 1700, which means that the invisible monster "Citadel Whale", should have an attack power of 2350 based on calculation.
Kaiba, who was initially calm and ready to embrace the virtual image impact, was caught off guard by the unexpected strong attack, causing him to step back two steps, as if even the bile in his stomach surged into his throat.
Kaiba gritted his teeth and narrowed his eyes, "You guys..."
"Oh, I forgot to mention beforehand, President Haima." Officer Fujino said with crossed arms, smiling, "The Duel Discs customized by the D Department might be a bit different from the model you sell, especially in terms of 'virtual sensation'.
The sensation in our duels isn't the same as the toys Kaiba Group sells on the market. If you're careless, you might really get hurt."
