Tragoedia's backfield Set Cards continued to accumulate, yet he did not initiate any form of attack, causing Yugi to furrow his brow.
The direction of the duel, to be honest, was somewhat bizarre. Both sides refrained from acting rashly, yet both were laying traps and mines...
"My turn, draw!"
As the Master of Traps, Yugi knew very well that in this situation, the longer the delay, the more disadvantageous it became—if you don't attempt to attack actively, the traps remain, only growing in number and making you sink deeper into them, unable to extricate yourself.
It's not as if seeing the opponent's backfield with four or five cards means doing nothing and waiting leisurely for the wind. The duel is, in fact, a fast-paced game; there's simply not that much time to let you leisurely wait for the wind.
Especially in a contest between experts, missing an opportunity could directly decide the outcome.
Yugi decided to take the first step of attack: "Summon the second 'Delta The Magnet Warrior', Attack Position!"
[Delta The Magnet Warrior, ATK 1600]
"Delta's effect, sending a Level 4 or lower Magnet Warrior monster from the Deck to the Graveyard." Yugi revealed another card from the Deck, "I send 'Gamma The Electromagnet Warrior' to the Graveyard.
Then, directly enter battle! Delta The Magnet Warrior, direct attack!"
The Magnet Warrior's eye regions lit up with golden light spots. Ignoring the backfield block, it directly leaped over the field, swinging its tiny iron fist toward Tragoedia's forehead.
"Hmph, Flip Cover Card," said Tragoedia, "Trap 'Ring of Destruction!' Destroy one monster, both sides simultaneously take damage equal to that monster's attack value."
The ring laden with grenades dropped onto the Magnet Warrior's neck; before the mechanical warrior could swing its fist, it was blown apart on the spot.
[Yugi, LP 4000 → LP 2400]
[Tragoedia, LP 4000 → LP 2400]
The heat wave from the explosion was scorching and brought with it a trace of eerie dark miasma. Yugi stumbled back a couple of steps, the Millennium Pendant swaying uncertainly on his chest.
"Even at the cost of mutual destruction, you want to whittle down my Life Points."
As he spoke, Yugi drew another card.
"Set another card face down, ending the turn."
Although his monster was once again blown up, at this time his backfield already consisted of three dark and ominous Set Cards, which might cause any ordinary person to feel their scalp tingle.
"My turn."
Tragoedia drew a card, glancing oddly at Yugi's three backfield Set Cards.
The Little Lobster never expected that the duel of this First Duel King would also follow an underworld route!
Little Lobster himself was inherently an underworld person, playing a self-isolation Deck as a matter of course... but the Duel King of the mortal world, how come he's adopting this style too?
Yet, he did not flinch, instead, curling his lip into a smug, cold smile.
Ha, trying to play self-isolation with me?
It's fatal!
In the realm of self-isolation, Little Lobster had absolute confidence!
Tragoedia finally began to act: "Activate from the hand Continuous Magic 'Ebon Sun'!" (Original card)
The dueling ground underwent immediate change. The color of the seas seemed to dull, and the blue sky appeared ink-stained, turning black. A black sun, seemingly burning with ebony flames, hung high in the sky.
Yugi couldn't help but cast an extra glance at the black sun in midair, sensing a hint of ominous aura from this Continuous Magic.
"Trap Card 'Embodiment of Apophis'!" Tragoedia flipped over a Set Card, "When this card is activated, it can be treated as a Monster Card and specially summoned to one's field!"
[Embodiment of Apophis, ATK 1600]
"Then activate Magic Card 'Fiend's Sanctuary'!" Tragoedia continued, "Specially summon one 'Metal Fiend Token' on the field!"
[Metal Fiend Token, ATK 0]
"Then use 'Metal Fiend Token' and 'Embodiment of Apophis' as sacrifices!"
Tragoedia brandished a card in his hand with a malevolent smile, raising it high above.
"Witness, Duel King! The supreme King of the Planet Series, the most powerful planet, the center of all—
—The Supremacy Sun, summon!!!"
The world split open with a thunderous roar, sunlight pierced from beyond the sky. A pillar of light from the black sun suspended in midair plunged into the earth, supporting a tall, massive form!
He wore heavy armor, with glaring golden light streaming from the armor seams, looking like it was ablaze.
[The Supremacy Sun, ATK 3000]
"Planet Series... The Sun?" Yugi looked up at the colossal monster, murmuring, "Such a strong monster, just its appearance exudes such a formidable aura."
"Indeed, this is the strongest planet, the center of the solar system!" Tragoedia gloated, "Feel the unmatched heat of the sun, Duel King!"
"Really strong, even just in terms of presence, Kaiba's 'Blue-Eyes White Dragon' in ordinary condition can't compare."
Yugi nodded in approval, then waved his hand.
"Flip Cover Card, Trap 'Torrential Tribute!' When a monster is summoned, destroy all monsters on the field!"
Before The Supremacy Sun could get its footing, torrents of seemingly endless blue water surged from the Trap Card. The cold water and the solar heat violently interacted, issuing hissing sounds and white smoke. The giant sun was submerged in an instant.
"Tch, of course, there was a contingency trap." Tragoedia didn't mind, "Well then, Continuous Magic 'Ebon Sun' effect activation.
When The Supremacy Sun is destroyed, I can recover Life Points equal to its attack value."
[Tragoedia, LP 2400 → LP 5400]
"A support Magic exclusively for the sun?" Yugi understood.
Actually, he should have guessed. The name of the card was "Ebon Sun", and its activation effect seemed related to the sun; it should logically be a support card for the Planet Series.
"End of turn."
The trump card submerged the instant it appeared, yet Tragoedia seemed entirely calm, still maintaining a composed demeanor.
"Then it's back to me."
"At this instant!" Tragoedia raised his voice, interrupting Yugi's words, "'The Supremacy Sun's' effect activation! The turn after it is destroyed, during the Preparation Phase, it can resurrect unconditionally from the Graveyard!" (Original effect)
Yugi was amazed: "An undying monster?"
"Hahahaha! The sun is immortal; although it sets sometimes, it always rises again!" Tragoedia shouted, "Return to the field, sun!"
Golden light pierced out from the horizon, transforming into a dazzling pillar of light straight into the sky! The Supremacy Sun, clad in heavy armor, ascended atop the golden pillar, suspended at the black sun in the field, seemingly igniting it with its body.
The blinding golden brilliance spread across the land, as if the entire place was ablaze with flames!
"'Ebon Sun's' another effect!" Tragoedia shouted, "When this card is present on the field and 'The Supremacy Sun' is revived from the Graveyard, its attack rises by 1000!"
[The Supremacy Sun, ATK 3000 → ATK 4000]
The sun rises once again!
