Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Not Even Spared After Entering the Graveyard

[Dimension Slash], one of the mainstream decks active in the early Yu-Gi-Oh competitive environment. Although it did not achieve world champion honors at the time, it once proved its combat power in the early environment and even stood a fighting chance against the champions of that time.

Yugen's initial deck strategy was based on the champion deck Hand Destruction, but due to the lack of some components and differences in the current environment, he only borrowed the concept and made adjustments to the build.

Dimension Slash is one of the builds he is currently testing.

As the name implies, the core idea of this deck is to send the opponent's cards to the Other Dimension. It mainly relies on forceful one-for-one exchanges like the "Interdimensional Female Warrior," which can banish both herself and the opponent's monster, but Yugen's side consists of easily usable subordinate monsters that can often take down big monsters made with a lot of resources from the opponent, creating an advantage in resources.

Just like what Yugen is doing now.

Also, because the opponent's monsters are banished to the Other Dimension rather than sent to the graveyard, it causes considerable trouble for mainstream decks in the competitive environment of that time, which relied on graveyard resources. Furthermore, the environment back then was filled with many monsters that had "search from the deck upon being sent to the graveyard" effects as their deathbed, and these monsters could not activate their effects when facing Dimension Slash, making it very frustrating.

Yugen has never experienced that ancient environment firsthand, but he can imagine the frustration duelist must have felt when the big monsters they painstakingly summoned were sent to the Other Dimension with a single strike from the opponent...

...just like Chazz is feeling now.

The Interdimensional Female Warrior fought desperately before dying, slashing through the void with a single sword strike that, much like a Dimension Slash, opened a black hole on the field. The overwhelming gravity immediately captured the two warriors; both the Sword Saint and the female warrior were sucked into it, disappearing on the other side of the black hole.

With no more equipped targets, the two equipment Magic Cards in the backfield exploded with a crisp sound, transforming into golden light fragments and dispersing.

Chazz operated fiercely like a tiger, but the big monster he summoned after exhausting his resources didn't even manage to slash once before being kicked off the field OB, nearly leaving him breathless for a moment.

But Chazz took a deep breath and steadied his mind quickly.

Stay calm, stay calm.

It's just a mere loss of one eight-star monster, two pieces of equipment, and four cards in hand...

No big deal.

"When the Equipment Magic 'Jade Sword' is sent to the graveyard from the field, draw a card from the deck."

Chazz drew a card from the deck, finally recovering a bit. He glanced at it and directly inserted the drawn card into the Magic Trap Zone.

"Set a card on the field, ending my turn."

"My turn, draw a card."

Yugen added the drawn card to his hand and revealed another one from his hand.

Yugen said, "Summon 'Wilderness Woman Warrior'."

[Wilderness Woman Warrior, Attack Power 1100]

"Direct battle," Yugen commanded with a wave, "Wilderness Woman Warrior, direct attack on the opponent."

The female warrior drew her sword from its sheath and leapt towards Chazz.

But Chazz had a countermeasure, he waved his arm and flipped his face-down card: "Activate Trap Card, 'Absorption Shield'! Negate the opponent's attack and restore Life Points equal to the attacking monster's Attack Power!"

A transparent rainbow barrier appeared in front of Chazz, and the female warrior's long sword struck fiercely against the barrier, instantly converting the force into energy to be absorbed, transforming into a warm golden glow that fell onto Chazz.

[Chazz, LP 4000→LP 5100]

"Heh, too bad. But this level of attack was fully anticipated." Chazz continued to act conceitedly.

Yugen didn't mind. Every card player knows this game is about zero LP or full LP. As long as there are still Life Points, compared to other resources in this game, they're not that important.

"Then I'll set a card, ending my turn," Yugen said.

"My turn!" Chazz drew a card, immediately showing it, "Magic Card - Pot of Greed! Draw two more cards from the deck."

Pot of Greed, a standard in the GX main protagonist team's lineup, where everyone always has a Pot of Greed.

"Summon [Dark Mage Warrior - Dark Sword], in Attack Position!"

The card image appeared, a warrior in black steel armor holding dual swords emerged from the illustration, covered in toothlike silvery-white blades.

[Dark Mage Warrior - Dark Sword, Attack Power 1800]

"Now you'll know, my monsters are also elite among elites, completely different from subordinate small fry!" Chazz shouted, raising his hand, "Go, Dark Sword! Break 'Wilderness Woman Warrior'!"

He curled his lips into a smirk, giving a cold hum of satisfaction.

Even though that underworld thing from the opponent pitfall'ed his big monster, it's okay. [Dark Mage Warrior - Dark Sword] is still a high-market-value strong subordinate with four-star 1800 Attack Power, which is normally quite formidable.

Are you going to pull out another Interdimensional Female Warrior from your sleeve and banish me to the Other Dimension again?

The Black Armor Knight leapt forward, slicing with dual blades. The female warrior was immediately cut in half and exploded on the spot with a roar.

[Yugen, LP 4000→LP 3300]

Sustaining the loss of his monster, Yugen remained calm, began sifting through his Card Deck from his Duel Disc.

"Activating the effect of Wilderness Woman Warrior. When this card is sent to the graveyard by battle, Special Summon an Earth Attribute Warrior Race monster with Attack Power 1500 or less from the Card Deck, in face-up Attack Position on my field.

What I want to summon is this guy..."

He said as he had already drawn the searched card from the deck.

"...Summon [Interdimensional Warrior] in Attack Position!"

[Interdimensional Warrior, Attack Power 1200]

Chazz: "!"

Not again?

This monster is one he knows too. The Interdimensional Warrior, when battling a monster, will exile the opponent monster and this card from the game.

Another card from the Dimension Slash deck, similar in effect to the Interdimensional Female Warrior.

Seeing the Interdimensional Warrior stationed on the opposite field, Chazz's eyelids twitched, feeling a bit annoyed.

Seriously...

How come these Underworld tricks keep flying from the card deck like that?

No, I must stay calm, can't lose my composure...

Chazz glanced at a card in his hand.

There's a way to deal with these Underworld things... it's not completely hopeless.

"I set a card on the field and end my turn," Chazz declared.

Yugen's gaze swept over the last cover card in Chazz's back row.

Judging by this posture, there seems to be a tactic against the Interdimensional Warrior?

He smiled faintly.

No matter.

"My turn, draw a card."

Yugen confirmed the card he drew and revealed it directly.

"Summon 'Spirit Annihilation Mage - Sea Sky,' in attack position."

Out came a bald monk draped in robes, with a fierce look on his face, holding beads as if ready to use them for a beating.

All in all, he looks very much like the type of martial monk who "persuades with reason".

[Spirit Annihilation Mage - Sea Sky, Attack Power 1800]

Chazz squinted his eyes, examining the big monk.

Attack power 1800, on par with his Dark Sword. Is it meant for mutual destruction, or perhaps...

"Battle," Yugen said. "First, Interdimensional Warrior attacks the Dark Sword of the Dark Demon Realm."

Here it comes.

"Don't even think about it... activate cover card!"

A gleam flashed in Chazz's eyes, as he waved to reveal the back field.

"Trap Card - Blast Armor! When the opponent's monster attacks, that monster is directly destroyed!"

Saying this, he smirked confidently.

"So you wanted to use the monster effect to exile my monster, huh? Too bad, the same trick won't work on me twice! It'll be your monster getting destroyed!"

Yugen raised his eyebrow.

Blast Armor, huh.

Yu-Gi-Oh! fans know, throughout Yu-Gi-Oh! history, Blast Armor has appeared many times in the show, but its success rate is somehow still zero. Almost every person who tries using it ends up cursed, as if by the will of the universe...

So naturally, this curse won't be broken in Yugen's hands.

"Activate cover card," Yugen's back row similarly flipped over. "Counterattack Trap - Thief's Seven Tools. Pay 1000 Life Points, negate and destroy the Trap Card's activation."

Chazz's eyelids twitched again.

Nani!?

Damn it, how do your Underworld tricks still have Red Pit as backup??

[Yugen, LP 3300→LP 2300]

Chazz's trap was countered, the miserable Blast Armor shattered to pieces with a pop, continuing its undefeated curse. The battle persisted, Dark Sword swung to slice through the Interdimensional Warrior, but as the warrior fell, he opened a dimensional rift, like a black hole, sucking both into the vortex, unseen.

[Yugen, LP 2300→LP 1700]

This left Chazz's front and back fields completely empty.

"Then it's the Spirit Annihilation Mage," Yugen continued, "attack Chazz directly."

In response, Sea Sky stepped forward, swiftly swung the beads like a projectile, striking Chazz's forehead with a smack. The force only left his head buzzing, as if feeling the weight of Buddha.

[Chazz, LP 5100→LP 3300]

"At this moment, the Spirit Annihilation Mage's effect also activates," Yugen continued. "When Sea Sky inflicts damage by battle, he can exile up to two monsters from the opponent's graveyard from the game."

Though he could choose two, all of Chazz's monsters had long been banished to the Other Dimension, leaving only the sacrifice "Female Swordsman - Canaan" and another discarded Monster Card in the graveyard.

Thus, Yugen selected the only two remaining monster cards.

Not just on the field, even the few monster resources in the graveyard were sent to the Other Dimension, leaving Chazz completely in disarray.

This is unfair.

You can't even let them rest in peace?
