Counterattack Trap - Thief's Seven Tools!
An ancient trap from the DM era, a card used by the King in the animation. The red glow of the trap unleashed, and an invisible restriction fell upon Lina's Ripple Shield in the backfield.
[Yugen, LP4000→ LP3000]
The water barrier in Lina's backfield immediately disintegrated, shattering into pieces. The transparent ripples exploded in all directions, and the Water Shield completely vanished.
Lina appeared desperate.
Counterattack Trap, again a Counterattack Trap...
The endless counterattacks left her unable to do anything.
She couldn't summon monsters, couldn't activate effects, and now even traps couldn't get through...
She couldn't do anything at all.
This card game was completely unplayable.
"Moreover, since another Counterattack Trap has been activated," Yugen slowly said, "first, the effect of 'Artemis of Abundance' is activated.
When a Counterattack Trap is activated, I draw a card from the card deck."
Yugen drew a card. Meanwhile, the newly arrived Motius also shone with a divine light, golden rays sprinkling onto Yugen as a warm current was absorbed into his body.
"The effect of Celestial Saint Motius," Yugen said, "As long as this card exists on the field, every time a Counterattack Trap is activated by either player, I recover 1000 Life Points."
[Yugen, LP3000→ LP4000]
Lina's eyes were filled with even more despair.
Even the 1000 Life Points she paid were restored...
The only damage she managed to inflict was completely negated. The existence of Motius effectively nullified the cost of activating Thief's Seven Tools... No, even before this, the card drawing effect of "Artemis of Abundance" in the previous turn had offset the cost of discarding a card required by "Celestial Punishment."
"Continue the attack," Yugen said, "Artemis of Abundance, Netherworld King Dragon - God of Judgment, direct attack in succession!"
The strike of the Netherworld King Dragon signaled the end of the first round for the Superpower Team. The dragon's throat rumbled with dark purple flames, distorting the surrounding air. Its black wings abruptly folded, and a pillar of dark purple flames roared out, sweeping over Lina's D-Wheel with a chilling blaze.
"Ahhhh——"
[Lina, LP3200→ LP0]
The front of Lina's D-Wheel exploded with a large plume of steam, and the D-Wheel quickly decelerated. Yugen, who had been speeding behind her, accelerated and swiftly overtook her side.
The audience was in an uproar, with some starting to shout Yugen's name.
The commentator with the airplane hairstyle was also excited: "This is truly unexpected! Competitor Yugen cleared the stage without a scratch, winning the first round without taking any damage!
Could he really defeat three people on his own and secure advancement?"
Defeated, Lina rode her D-Wheel back to the team's repair station to hand over to the next player.
Lina appeared ashamed, saying: "I'm sorry, I... I couldn't..."
"It's alright." The next to go on, Captain Blake, patted her shoulder and said solemnly, "It's not your fault. We were completely unprepared, and this new Public Security Maintenance Bureau officer... he's definitely strange."
All three had completely dispelled their initial underestimation, realizing this person was likely far superior to ordinary duelists.
Although the thought seemed absurd, this Yugen was serious—he truly aimed to participate and secure a position on the world stage of the WRGP with only one person!
It's insane!
Their Superpower Team was after all the former North American champion team, and they were participating with the championship in their sights. If today's preliminary first battle were unfavorable—and particularly if one person from the opposing side swept them—it would be an unprecedented blow to their morale.
So even though the preliminary match result wouldn't directly determine advancement or elimination, they definitely didn't want to lose this match!
The D-Wheel started up, and Blake, like a silver comet, soared onto the track.
"The Superpower Team has sent out their second player, Captain Blake!" The commentator exclaimed, "Replacing Lina, can the team captain reverse the situation?"
Blake: "My turn, draw!"
Blake took a deep breath.
Even though the opponent was only one person, Lina hadn't managed to take away a single Life Point from her opponent. Even if it was two against one, he couldn't afford to be careless.
"Activate Speed Attack Magic 'Emergency Instant Movement!'"
Blake immediately played the divine telekinesis card Emergency Instant Movement.
"This card can only be activated when there are no monsters on the field," Blake said, "Special Summon a Level Three or lower Telekinesis Race monster from your card deck. However, the monsters Special Summoned through this effect are removed from play at the end of this turn."
A Monster Card automatically ejected from the card deck on the D-Wheel, which Blake drew and placed on the Duel Disc.
"Special Summon 'Spiritual Seeker'!"
A small telekinetic being wearing goggles, resembling a child, was summoned onto the field.
[Telekinesis Seeker, Attack Power 800]
[Spiritual Seeker, Attack Power 800]
"Then sacrifice the 'Telekinesis Seeker!'" Blake said, "Upper-level Summon! Show yourself—
—Level 6, Greatest Teleporter!"
[Greatest Teleporter, Attack Power 2100]
"Greatest Teleporter, activate effect!" Blake said, "This card allows me to pay 2000 Life Points and Special Summon two Level 3 Telekinesis Race monsters onto my field from the card deck."
[Blake, LP4000→ LP2000]
The commentator exclaimed, "Captain Blake immediately paid 2000 Life Points at the start! Is he so eager to attack that he's willing to pay such a price?"
Their teammate Victor outside was also serious: "For Blake to be this serious..."
Having stepped off, Lina said, "That Officer Fujiki Yugen is truly a worthy opponent of such importance. He cannot be defeated by holding back on paying any cost."
Blake drew two cards from his deck that had automatically ejected, and immediately played them onto the Duel Disc.
"I Special Summon these two cards, reveal yourselves!
Telekinesis Commander!
Silent Telekinesis Priest!"
The same priest used before by Lina calmly stepped forward onto the field in a defensive stance, shielding the front of the D-Wheel. The Telekinesis Commander was a telekinetic warrior in military garb, wearing a steel mask hiding its head, with its lower body concealed within a hovering tank.
[Telekinesis Commander, Attack Power 1400]
[Silent Telekinesis Priest, Defense Power 2100]
"The effect of Silent Telekinesis Priest, once per turn, discard one card from hand and remove one Telekinesis Race monster from your graveyard from play," Blake said.
Blake sent one card from hand to the graveyard.
"I remove the 'Telekinesis Seeker' from my graveyard from play!"
Blake took a deep breath.
Now, it was time for the Superpower Team's counterattack!
