Chapter 66 - CHAPTER 66 : Eula, You Don’t Want the Lawrence Clan to Be Wiped Out, Right

Kael studied Eula quietly, his gaze sharp but not unkind. "You're not planning to do anything about it, are you?"

Eula frowned. "Do anything about what?"

"About your clan," Kael said. "From what I've gathered, some members of the Lawrence family have been involved in something… significant lately. Something dangerous."

The knight's blue eyes narrowed. She'd felt the undercurrent of strangeness among her family for weeks now — the hushed meetings, the letters that arrived in the dead of night, the way some servants looked at her with concealed disdain.

But she hadn't interfered. She didn't want to.

Despite being born a Lawrence, she'd always stood apart from them — a black sheep among her own blood.

"Tell me," she said finally, crossing her arms. "What kind of 'major thing' are you talking about?"

Kael leaned back slightly, his tone measured. "You'll have to confirm it yourself. But be cautious. This isn't something you can handle carelessly."

He gave a faint chuckle and added, "You know… there was once a man who destroyed his entire clan to protect his homeland. Parents, siblings — everyone. He killed them all to prevent their betrayal."

Barbara gasped softly. "That's horrible! Why would anyone kill their own family? Even their parents?"

Kael's voice was quiet, almost somber. "Because if he didn't, thousands more would have died. His father was the clan head, and the family's treason would have plunged their nation into ruin."

Both women were stunned into silence.

The image of such a man — a son cutting down his own bloodline in the name of duty — was terrifying.

"Unthinkable, isn't it?" Kael said. "But tell me, Eula — if the time ever came, what would you choose? Mondstadt… or the Lawrence Clan?"

Eula's breath caught. His question cut through her like a blade.

For years, she had lived beneath the shadow of her family's sins — mocked by the people she swore to protect, burdened by the name she could never escape.

And now, he was telling her that her clan might be conspiring against Mondstadt again.

Was history repeating itself?

"Kael… what's really going on?" Eula asked, her voice steady but low. "Tell me everything."

It was rare to hear that tone from her — not a demand, not defiance, but quiet urgency.

Even Kael seemed slightly surprised. He hadn't expected the proud Knight of Favonius to ask please.

"Schubert Lawrence," Kael said after a long pause, "has defected to the Abyss Order."

The air in the room seemed to freeze.

Eula's eyes widened in disbelief. "What did you say?"

"You heard me," Kael replied evenly. "He's leading a small faction of the Lawrence Clan in secret. They've made contact with Abyss agents, and they plan to open a gate during Stormterror's next assault. Their goal is to weaken Mondstadt's defenses from within."

Eula shot to her feet, fury flashing in her eyes. "That lunatic! Has he completely lost his mind? Colluding with the Abyss Order?!"

Even Barbara, who rarely raised her voice, looked horrified. "But that's… that's treason against all of Teyvat!"

Kael nodded grimly. "It's more than that. It's suicide. The Abyss doesn't make allies — only tools. Once they've achieved their purpose, they'll erase anyone who helped them. But Schubert and his followers are too blinded by hatred to see it."

Eula clenched her fists. "I have to go back. I'll stop him before he does anything irreparable."

Kael's tone remained calm but deliberate. "Stop him, yes. But think first. This is your chance — not just to end Schubert's madness, but to decide what the Lawrence name truly stands for.

Your family is a festering wound on Mondstadt's history. If you don't clean it now, it'll rot again."

Eula turned sharply toward him. "You're suggesting I… wipe out my own clan?"

Kael didn't deny it. "I'm suggesting you remove the ones who've chosen treason. The Lawrence name deserves redemption — but redemption requires sacrifice.

If you take action, the city will finally see where your loyalties lie. Jean will recognize your courage. Mondstadt might finally forgive the Lawrences."

Eula looked down, trembling. Her heart felt split in two.

If she acted against her kin, she would forever be branded a traitor to her bloodline. But if she did nothing, Mondstadt — her home — could burn.

Her breath came slow and uneven. "You make it sound so simple."

"It never is," Kael said softly. "But sometimes, doing the right thing costs more than anyone should have to pay."

Silence filled the room. The crackle of the fireplace was the only sound between them.

Then Eula lifted her gaze. "This plan… this doesn't sound like something you'd orchestrate. You might tell me the truth, but you don't manipulate people into destroying their families. So whose idea was this?"

Kael smiled faintly. "You're sharper than you look."

Barbara, who had been listening quietly, suddenly gasped. "Wait… could it be that bard? The one you were talking to before?"

Eula blinked. "You mean Venti? That drunk who sings in the plaza?"

Barbara nodded vigorously. "He's always around when something big happens. Jean's been meeting with him too lately…"

Eula's frown deepened. "No way. That bard doesn't look capable of scheming anything."

Kael chuckled. "That's what everyone thinks — until they realize he's been pulling the strings the whole time. You Mondstadters have an odd habit of trusting him for grand causes… though maybe not for the small things."

Eula stared at him. "You mean… Venti is—"

Kael only smiled. "You'll find out soon enough."

If she were ready to step into Mondstadt's inner circle, she'd learn who Venti truly was — the Anemo Archon himself.

And if Venti vouched for her, Eula's name would be written anew in Mondstadt's history.

But the mood turned grim again when Kael continued, "Listen carefully, Eula. If Schubert's plan succeeds, the entire Lawrence Clan will be condemned. Not just by Mondstadt — by every nation in Teyvat.

Once you're labeled as Abyssal collaborators, no one will ever show mercy."

Eula's fists tightened until her knuckles turned white.

She wanted to scream, to curse, to strike something — but all she could do was lower her head, trembling with suppressed rage.

Schubert, you fool.

You've doomed us all.

Barbara watched her in silence, unsure what to say. She wanted to comfort Eula, but there was nothing she could offer that would soften the truth.

Meanwhile, Kael stood quietly, giving her the space to decide. He could see the battle raging inside her — loyalty versus justice, vengeance versus love.

Finally, Eula looked up. Her eyes were cold, but her voice was clear.

"If Schubert truly did this," she said, "then I'll deal with him myself. And anyone who followed him."

Kael nodded. "Good. But remember — once the Abyss makes its move, they won't stop at Schubert. They'll come for the city."

Eula drew a long breath. "Then tell me, Kael… if the Abyss Order does invade — how do we stop them?"

Kael's expression hardened. "By using what they fear most."

He looked out the window, where the wind carried faint traces of stormlight.

"Faith. Unity. And the wind that never bows."
