Ron walked into Zack's class, trying to stifle a grin. Zack looked up and raised an eyebrow. "What's up, Ron? You look like you've got some juicy gossip."
Ron leaned in, trying to contain his laughter. "Keal's gone to visit Geo's and his sister in the slum."
Zack's eyes widened in surprise, and then he burst out laughing. "Keal's gone slumming it, eh? I bet he's loving the local cuisine "
Zack chuckled, picturing Keal trying to navigate the crowded streets of the slum. "And I'm sure the ladies are just loving his new surroundings – the potholes, the trash, the street vendors..
Ron snorted. "I bet Keal's trying to woo Geo's sister with his best 'I'm-a-rich-boy-done-wrong' act. 'Oh, geo sister, I'm so cultured and refined, I just love the sounds of generators and the smell of exhaust fumes!'" "Stop, Zack, stop! I'm going to pee myself!"
Zack stood up, smoothing out his shirt and clearing his throat. "Wish me luck, Ron," he said, a mischievous glint in his eye.
Ron raised an eyebrow. "What are you up to, Zack?"
"I'm going to go hit on that girl over there," Zack said, nodding towards a girl sitting alone at a table.
Ron chuckled. "Good luck with that. She's way out of your league."
Zack grinned. "I'll show you, Ron. I'll have her eating out of my hand in no time. I've got a whole plan, see? I'm going to start with some suave small talk, work my way up to some witty banter, and before she knows it, she'll be swooning in my arms."
He sauntered over to the girl's table, a confident smile plastered on his face. Ron watched with amusement as Zack launched into a cheesy pickup line, complete with awkward gestures and a hammy grin. The girl listened politely, a mixture of amusement and annoyance on her face. She shook her head and said something that made Zack's face fall, and he slunk back to the table, looking like a deflated balloon.
Ron burst out laughing. "Told you, Zack! Told you she'd shoot you down! I've never seen anyone get rejected so epically in my life."
Zack returned to the table, looking sheepish. "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up, Ron. I'll get her next time. I'll come back with a whole arsenal of charm and wit, and she won't know what hit her."
Ron clapped him on the back. "I'm shaking in my boots, Zack. What's your next move? Are you going to bring her flowers and a mariachi band, too?"
Zack thought for a moment, a look of intense concentration on his face. "I think I'll try again, but this time I'll bring her flowers. And maybe a poem or two. Something about her eyes, or her hair... or maybe I'll just write a whole epic about her awesomeness. And I'll recite it to her, with feeling, and she'll be so moved that she'll forget all about my previous failures."
Ron chuckled, wiping tears from his eyes. "You're a true romantic, Zack. I have no doubt you'll win her over with your charming ways. And if that doesn't work, you can always resort to bribery or blackmail. Just kidding, don't do that, you'll get in trouble."
Zack grinned, unfazed. "You can mock me all you want, Ron, but I'll have her eating out of my hand in no time. Mark my words, I'll be the king of the pickup artists, and she'll be my queen."
The two friends laughed and joked, enjoying each other's company as they waited for their next class to start. Eventually, Ron got up to leave, and as he walked away, the girl Zack had hit on earlier came back to the table.
"Hey, Zack?" she said, a curious look on her face. "I just wanted to say, you're actually a really nice guy. I appreciate your honesty, even if it was a bit... misguided."
Zack looked up at her, surprised. "Thanks, I guess? I'm sorry if I came on too strong earlier."
The girl smiled. "No, it's okay. I think it's kind of sweet, actually. And I have to admit, I was a bit curious about the bet you and your friend had going on. You know, about me?"
Zack's face fell, and he looked embarrassed. "Oh, yeah... that. Yeah, we had a bet, but I have to be honest, I lost on purpose. I didn't want to make a fool of myself, and I figured it was a bad idea anyway."
The girl looked surprised, and then her expression softened. "Aww, that's actually really sweet of you, Zack. You didn't have to do that, but I appreciate the thought."
Zack smiled, feeling a bit more at ease. "Yeah, well, I guess I'm not as much of a jerk as I thought, huh?"
The girl laughed. "No, I don't think you are. Maybe next time, just be yourself, okay? I think you'll be surprised at how well it works out for you."
Zack grinned, feeling a bit hopeful. Maybe, just maybe, he'd get another chance with this girl, and he'd make sure to do it right this time.
Maya and Geo sat in their small, one-room house in the slum, the sounds of the bustling streets outside filling the air. Keal had been asking questions about their parents, and Geo's face had turned cold, his eyes clouding over.
"What happened to them?" Keal asked, his voice gentle.
Geo's face turned cold, and Maya quickly intervened, trying to change the subject. "Where are you from, Keal?" she asked, her voice light and casual.
Keal's eyes seemed to glaze over, and he started to mumble, his head filling with strange, fragmented information. flames, screams... he didn't know what was happening, but his head was pounding, his vision blurring. He felt like he was being pulled into a vortex of memories that weren't his own, images flashing before his eyes like a kaleidoscope of chaos. The sounds of the crying still echoed in his mind, a cacophony of terror and panic that left him reeling.
He felt himself falling, and the next thing he knew, Maya and Geo was beside him, her hand on his forehead. "Keal, are you okay?" Geo voice fading
