Chapter 48 - chapter 48

Chapter 48

The morning came with soft waves brushing the hull of the Black Pearl, sunlight rising over the open sea. The salty air was fresh, but the mood on deck was heavy. Jake Sparrow stood with his hat tilted, eyes scanning over half-burned sea charts and cursed texts he'd dug up from a hidden chest. Raina flipped through an old sailor's journal nearby, her brow furrowed.

"Nothing," she muttered.

Jake sighed and ran his hand through his tangled hair. "There's got to be something. Some way to cancel this damn deal."

From the other side of the deck, Elias stepped forward, calm and composed, his arms crossed and his long coat fluttering in the wind. "You're wasting your time," he said softly.

Jake turned toward him. "Elias—"

"Especially you, Jake. You, of all people, should know—there's no coming back from a debt with Davy Jones."

Jake stared at him, then looked away. His voice dropped. "Why'd you do it? I mean—yes, we laughed, and I said thank you, but why really, lad?"

Elias smirked and scratched the back of his head. "You're the captain, Jake. And let's be honest—if it wasn't for you, I'd still be rotting in Port Royal. No food. No roof. Just me and a pocket full of nothing."

He glanced at the horizon, then back at Jake. "The day I stole your compass? That was the moment everything changed."

Jake held his gaze, eyes narrowing with something between admiration and sorrow. "I made the deal. Not you. I'll find a way out of this."

Before either could say another word, a haunting sound echoed across the water—the groan of iron, the creaking of ghostly wood. The Flying Dutchman emerged from the mist like a phantom, sails torn but powerful, gliding like death itself.

Davy Jones stood at the bow, tentacles shifting, his eyes fixed coldly on Elias. "I gave you a few hours to say goodbye to your friends. Now it's time."

Elias turned to Jake and Raina. His smile was lazy, confident—classic Elias. "Okay guys, I'm off now. See you later. Don't let Jake burn the rum while I'm gone."

Raina opened her mouth, but no words came.

Jake stepped forward, his voice hoarse. "Elias..."

But Elias just turned and walked to the prow of the Black Pearl. He stood tall, wind tugging at his coat, and without another word, jumped high into the air.

He landed cleanly on the deck of the Flying Dutchman beside Davy Jones, who stared at him in cold curiosity.

Elias looked up at the grotesque captain and grinned. "Man, you are one ugly bastard, Captain."

The Dutchman's crew twitched at the insult, but Davy Jones let out a low growl and turned away.

Elias just chuckled. "Alright, boss. Where do I hang my sword?"

Back on the Black Pearl, Jake stared in silence, his hands clenched at his sides.

The sea had taken Elias.

But Jake Sparrow wasn't about to let that be the end.
