Chapter 33-"A Moment After War"
I. The Days After
Three days passed.
And for the first time in a while—
Hollowfen felt… alive again.
Not tense.
Not waiting.
Not bracing for impact.
Just—
Living.
The air was warmer. The winds calmer. Even the forests surrounding the town seemed to settle, as if whatever force had been pressing down on them had loosened its grip.
But no one was fooled.
Not X.
Not Selene.
Not Blue.
Not any of them.
Because peace like this didn't come without a cost.
And it never lasted long.
II. Training Grounds — Morning Light
Steel clashed.
Magic sparked.
Dust rose beneath moving feet.
Even during peace—
They trained.
Blue moved faster now.
Cleaner.
More controlled.
His blade cut through the air with precision, each strike more refined than the last.
Across from him, Rito moved just as smoothly—her twin blades flashing with faint traces of fae energy, her movements sharp but fluid.
They weren't sparring to win.
They were sparring to grow.
Blue stepped in—
Rito pivoted—
Their blades met—
Locked—
Close.
Too close.
For a second—
Neither moved.
Rito looked up at him.
Blue froze slightly.
There was something there now.
Different.
Not just trust.
Not just friendship.
Something deeper.
Rito broke the moment first.
A small smirk.
"You're hesitating."
Blue blinked.
"…I'm not."
She stepped back.
"You are."
He shook his head.
"You're just faster now."
Rito laughed lightly.
"Don't lie."
But neither of them pushed it further.
Not yet.
III. A Quiet Moment
Later—
Away from the others—
Blue sat on the edge of the estate fence, looking out toward Hollowfen.
Rito approached quietly, sitting beside him.
For a while—
Neither spoke.
The wind moved gently through the trees.
"You were really going to come for me," she said finally.
Blue didn't hesitate.
"…Of course."
Rito looked at him.
"Even knowing it was a trap?"
"Yes."
No pause.
No doubt.
Rito smiled softly.
"You're an idiot."
Blue chuckled.
"…Probably."
A silence followed.
But this one felt different.
Comfortable.
Rito leaned slightly closer.
"Still… thanks."
Blue looked at her.
"…Always."
For a second—
It felt like something more could be said.
But neither of them crossed that line.
Not yet.
IV. The Offer
Back inside the estate—
Mira stood near the center of the room, arms folded tightly, clearly uncomfortable.
Selene and X stood in front of her.
"You can stay," Selene said.
Mira looked up, surprised.
"…Stay?"
X nodded.
"You don't have anywhere else to go."
Selene continued.
"But understand this—if you stay here, you follow our rules."
Mira hesitated.
"…And if I don't?"
Selene's expression didn't change.
"Then you leave."
Silence.
Mira looked down.
"…What kind of rules?"
X answered.
"You train."
She blinked.
"…Train?"
Selene nodded.
"You get stronger. You fight. You learn how to survive what's coming."
A pause.
"…Because whether you like it or not…"
Selene's eyes locked onto hers.
"This is your home now."
Mira didn't respond immediately.
She didn't argue.
Didn't reject it.
Just—
Stood there.
Processing.
From the side—
Kin leaned against the wall, listening.
A slow grin spread across his face.
"…I can train her."
Everyone looked at him.
Rito raised an eyebrow.
"You?"
Kin shrugged casually.
"Why not?"
His eyes flicked toward Mira.
There was something there.
Interest.
Curiosity.
Maybe more.
X glanced at Selene.
Selene glanced back.
They both smiled.
Then—
Laughed.
Quietly.
Because they understood immediately.
Kin crossed his arms.
"What?"
Selene shook her head.
"…Nothing."
V. Hollowfen Lives
By evening—
The town was full.
Lanterns lit the streets.
Voices filled the air.
Music played softly between buildings.
For the first time in days—
Hollowfen wasn't preparing for war.
It was celebrating survival.
Long tables stretched through the center of town, covered in food—meat, bread, fruit, warm drinks—everything the villagers could gather.
Blue walked beside Rito, Kin, and Gus.
Zak followed behind, greeting members of his pack.
Selene and X walked together at the front, their presence alone bringing comfort to the people around them.
Children ran through the streets.
Laughter echoed.
People smiled.
They thanked them.
Not just with words—
But with looks.
With relief.
With trust.
Blue looked around.
"…We did this."
Rito nodded.
"Yeah."
Kin smirked.
"For now."
Gus grabbed a piece of bread.
"Let's enjoy it while it lasts."
They sat together.
A moment of peace.
Earned.
Real.
VI. Above It All
Far away—
Hidden.
Watching.
Two figures stood before a crystal sphere glowing with soft light.
Inside it—
Hollowfen.
The celebration.
The laughter.
The peace.
The Moon Queen smiled.
"…Look at them."
Beside her—
The Vampire Queen's eyes gleamed.
"Enjoying themselves."
A quiet laugh escaped her.
"They really believe they've won something."
The Moon Queen tilted her head slightly.
"Should we take that from them now?"
The Vampire Queen shook her head slowly.
"No."
Her smile widened.
"Let them have this."
A pause.
Then—
Her voice dropped.
Cold.
Certain.
"This war has only just begun."
The crystal dimmed.
The laughter of Hollowfen faded into silence.
