"Is she likely to be?"
"She was alive in Cinderfall and she has been dying since I was nine." Bai Shu shifted the pack, which was too heavy and which she had refused help with twice. "Meifen. If yours goes badly, do not come back early and tell me it went well."
"I was not going to."
"You were absolutely going to."
And she went north, and Meifen went east, because neither of them is any good at the other kind of goodbye.
