Chapter 59 - A Grief so heavy

Si-Hun saw him off and stayed there.

Arthur was…really gone.

The rain was pouring on him, quiet and deliberate with each drop.

He didn't have the courage to look up.

"It's late…I should…leave," He muttered, head still low.

Kuro saw everything.

His chest tightened again.

He was feeling it even when he was not.

He didn't say anything.

Si-Hun dragged himself to his bike.

"…You can…use your teleportation?" Kuro asked hesitantly.

"No…I failed to protect everyone…If I use this way to be easy on myself, I'd rather die," He whispered.

He turned on the bike and headed home.

His leg was now hurting painfully, the ache spreading in his body as well.

People noticed him.

Some gave him a disgusted look, while others gave him a pitiful one.

He didn't care.

His hand clenched his leg to keep him from falling.

His leg was still bleeding a little, and would get worse if not treated on time.

He reached his floor and walked towards the door.

He was a few steps away when he saw her.

Su-Yeon was at her door, trying to get her keys in.

Si-Hun hid his face by looking the other way.

She turned slightly and noticed him, then his shot leg.

She gasped, eyes flickering with worry instantly.

He looked down.

He had no strength to explain.

He looked like he was about to collapse.

She saw him struggling and instinctively held his arm.

His restraint pulled him back.

He pulled his arm back.

"Don't." He commanded.

Her breath hitched, but she didn't back away.

Her hands clenched into fists at her sides.

"…You're bleeding badly." She whispered under her breath.

"That doesn't matter." He replied, voice rough.

"It does." She said as she dared to take a step closer.

"It's your leg that's…shot, right?" She asked.

He nodded.

"Come with me," She requested.

"Su-Yeon, I told you it's nothing," He muttered, voice heavy.

"I can see!" She said, voice rising.

He lifted his head slightly.

He didn't plead anymore, just came inside her warm apartment.

"Sit," She said.

He sat down, legs trembling.

She didn't reach out for him.

She knew he wouldn't like it.

She came back with a first aid box.

"I'll…clean it right now. But…you'll go to the hospital with me tomorrow." She said, voice stern.

She knelt beside him and removed the fabric from his leg.

Her hands were trembling, but she steadied herself in a few seconds.

Slowly, her hands did their work.

He couldn't even look at her.

"Ah," A small hiss he made during the treatment.

"Sorry…I'll be careful," She immediately said, eyebrows furrowing.

His breathing shook a little; each breath was shaky enough for her to hear.

Grief was not gone; it felt like it was coming back again, quieter this time.

His hair was messy and sticking to his forehead.

She was almost done.

"Here…done," She whispered, voice soft.

Seeing her care for him so dearly…not being bothered to help him, it reminded him of Arthur.

Everything seemed to.

He couldn't control it…a soft sob escaped his lips.

"Si-Hun…" She called, voice innocent this time.

Another sob escaped.

He cried in front of her.

Her innocent eyes moved to his face, tense and…helpless.

He covered his eyes with his fingers.

She slowly got up and sat next to him.

The distance was small this time.

"D-does it hurt too much? Did I go too hard?" She asked innocently, as if mad at herself for making him cry.

"I lost everyone…I lost him, too. I don't deserve such care…I lost in everything." He cried harder but quieter.

Her breath hitched as she lifted her hand and rested it over his shoulder.

Without a warning, she wrapped her arms around his shoulders.

He felt her warmth circling him.

His shoulders fell off; they felt like they couldn't take the weight of the truth about everything.

Things he thought he could fight forever.

"You didn't lose me…Do I not mean anything?" She said softly.

His breath hitched, he lifted his head slowly, and looked at her.

"My world would crush yours…" He whispered.

"I…don't even deserve your care after everything."

"I'm not doing it out of validation…I'm doing it because I want to." She replied.

His tears stopped one by one.

He realized how close he was.

"I'm sorry… I'm being a burden. I'll leave. Pardon me." He said as he tried to get up, but was stopped when she held his wrist.

"S-Si-Hun…"

"I need to leave."

"You didn't even tell me what happened." She asked, looking down while letting go of his wrist.

Her eyes rested as she looked down.

His breath hitched.

His heart clenched painfully at her reaction.

"If I do this…I'm also pushing away the people who assisted me when I needed it…I can't see her like this, but I have to leave." He thought.

"I'll tell you tomorrow when I'm less burdened." He said to her.

She didn't say anything, and he didn't either.

He looked at her one last time before leaving.

"Tell me then." Her voice came after his hand was on the doorknob.

He looked down.

"I won't forget." He assured as he opened the door and left.

She finally looked up.

"What would've happened that got him to cry like that? His leg was really in a bad state. He was drenched as well." Si-Hun slowly walked towards his apartment and opened the door.

He went straight to his bedroom and lay down on the bed.

"You need anything?" Kuro asked as he came into the room with a glass of water.

"I don't want it."

"Please."

"I really don't."

"Okay." Kuro sighed and left.

Si-Hun's eyes grew heavy from the events of the day, and he finally closed his eyes, his heart still swallowed by heavy grief.

Of course. It was hard to forget.
