Chapter 22 - Chapter 22 - New Jutsus

I stood before the mission desk, scanning the list of available C-rank jutsu. There were plenty of water-style techniques, but only a handful for lightning. Still, I found myself leaning toward lightning. Not just because it looked cool—though, let's be honest, it did—but because of its sheer speed and precision. Lightning techniques hit fast, hit hard, and many didn't even require complex hand seals.

Water-style, on the other hand, was stable and versatile, sure, but none of the C-rank options really complemented my fighting style. I needed something that could enhance my fundamentals—Kenjutsu and Taijutsu. My explosion tags already gave me the firepower of a grenadier, but what I lacked was awareness and finesse.

That's when I found it: Lightning Sense.

A sensory technique that allowed the user to detect electrical signals—movement, chakra fluctuations, even intent—through their surroundings. It wasn't flashy, but it fit perfectly. I was part of a reconnaissance unit, after all. Being aware of what was happening around me was no longer optional—it was survival. Of course, I'd never match the specialists who'd trained their entire lives for sensory work, but at least I wouldn't be walking blind into ambushes anymore.

On that note, I also managed to get my hands on another scroll—Mystical Palm Technique. I assure you, I was not arrogant enough to think of becoming a man with thousands of jutsus like the professor. But Medical Ninjutsu was something that my slowly growing Chakra control could incorporate without problem. Although I was not planning to invest much time in this. I wanted only two in my lifetime. Mystical palm and chakra scalpel. I wasn't gonna become a surgeon by any means, but I wanted the basics down.

If I was going to take my squad into the field, someone had to know how to keep people from bleeding out or dying from shrapnel. I didn't need to become a full-fledged medic, just competent enough to keep my people alive.

Apparently, getting the scroll wasn't too hard either. Turns out, skilled medical-nin were in short supply. Even with the system helping me refine my chakra control, I was barely considered average by their standards. But that was fine. Average could still save lives.

Ah, yes, about the awesome resolve last night. You know, when you're trying to build something, especially something big and long-lasting. The first thing you realize is that progress is slow. I did well in the morning training with Sensei due to how fired up I was, but when I sat down to think about how to increase my power or my clan's strength. I drew a blank. I mean, the standard methods of extra training and me taking risks to chase achievements were there. But it was always there.

Over the next month, I did nothing but train, make tags, and take note of the clan's progress. We were making good time considering everything.

But all of this was slow. Too slow. I wasn't too clear on the timeline. But taking in the plot and my butterfly effects. I would say Orochimaru defects in around 20 years. Which means war was coming in the next 15 or so. Sanin had been in their early twenties for the second. And had been in line for Hokage after the third war, which is the age of 35-40 for these guys.

If most of my clan were gonna make just genin in the next 10 years, we would be canon fodder and nothing more. I needed a way to get stronger. And fast. Especially now that Hiruzen was probably not really supporting us anymore. Also, Danzo's root was also established after this war. I needed to be either absolutely below the radar or above it when he started operations.

"C'mon, damn you, system. If nothing else, then at least upgrade the daily quest." It had been a while since I could just breeze through that whole thing. It was quite easy now.

Request confirmed. Checking requirements. LEGEND Requirements met, Soul Requirements met. Strength Requirements met. Transition of Daily Quest allowed.

Note: It was a system error that led to a delay in the daily quest update. Compensation issued.

Reward - 200SS

New Daily Quest

100 Pushups

100 Squats

100 Pull Ups

100 Sword slashes

100 Kunai Throws

10Km Run

Rewards - 4SS

Huh, that was amazing, but I didn't really think that much had changed. It will just take 1 hour instead of 40 minutes. But I will have double the speed of SS Collection. This means 120SS a month instead of just 60.

Hey, system. Can I get more quests than the daily one, please? C'mon. Is there any update in that regard? Or a system shop? Or maybe a daily spin? or maybe some other feature?

Maybe it was feeling guilty over the late update, it really answered.

This is not a game for the user to get daily free spins.

Quests are only issued from the specials board or in special events. The host has neither unlocked the first nor triggered any of the second.

Quickly think. This thing was actually answering stuff. What is something that I need to ask it the most? Direction, yes, that's it. I politely greeted it.

Ahem. So, my dear system. I know my behavior hasn't been very satisfactory in that regard. Can you tell me how I should behave for I to accumulate power as quickly as possible?

Note, the System accumulates Power through Comis interactions of the Universe, your LEGEND, Soul, and the Call. Unless those are improved, The System cannot have more functions.

What?

I began asking a barrage of questions, but the system had decided to ghost me again. Or maybe, it had been forced to Ghost me again. It said that it is drawing power from somewhere. Now that I think about it. I recently upgraded my soul. Thus, the system actually answered two questions. It was not, as I hadn't asked these particular ones before.

I was beginning to think that I need to figure out the function of LEGEND fast. Because, except for unlocking features, it was apparently the first in line for the things responsible for System Functions. And also, the fact that it was in all caps, while even my soul wasn't made it sound kinda too important to just let go.

I had not gotten my answer. I was too far from calling and upgrading the soul, and getting achievements was already on my bucket list. It had just gained priority over physical strength now.

I needed to do C rank missions. But now I had a specific goal in mind.

1000 Bandits. That should give me 10 LEGEND, right? I was going to play it safe. I had a little bit of an extra pull in mission choices than a mere genin is supposed to have due to the Hokage oversight. It was time to use that.
