Chapter 57: The Supplementary Medicine is Spying on Me~
To be honest, Ren got quite a shock when he returned home to find Gabriel and Yuno sitting casually on the living room sofa.
They were already waiting for him at his house before he even got back—how unsettling is that?
"Hey, you're back? Perfect timing. We can now discuss what I mentioned earlier in person."
Gabriel waved at Ren, while Yuno kept her head down, silent. She never imagined the person she had targeted would turn out to be a genuine Angel.
"Is this about Yuno?"
Ren made an educated guess after seeing Yuno looking as if she had done something wrong and didn't dare speak.
"Mm, but let's get one thing straight—I'm not telling you this for free. Plus, I helped you catch the real culprit, so you better pay extra, got it?"
Gabriel hinted meaningfully, repeatedly glancing at Ren to emphasize her point.
"No problem, no problem at all."
If it's about money, that's the easiest thing for Ren to accept. If it can be solved with money, then it's not an issue.
"How about a flat rate of 200,000 yen? No objections, right?"
Gabriel seemed worried Ren might back out, so she immediately stated her terms after he agreed, appearing both rushed and a little anxious about whether her price was too high.
After all, she had resolved the matter with minimal effort—just by informing Ren, Yuno had come to stop her.
"None at all. So, what's this about?"
The 200,000 yen was even less than Ren had expected. Ever since money had become just a number to him, he often subconsciously thought in terms of millions of yen. He had even considered offering a million, but Gabriel only asked for 200,000.
As he spoke, he went to the fridge and grabbed a cola for Gabriel. Anyone could tell she was a gaming otaku, and there was no way she could resist the temptation of an ice-cold cola.
"Ahh~ refreshing. It's nothing major, really. She's just been constantly influencing and altering your fate lately."
After taking the cola, Gabriel took a big gulp before leisurely revealing the truth to Ren.
"?"
Are you even listening to what you're saying?
What do you mean by "constantly influencing and altering my fate"? That's even more terrifying than you two arriving at my house before me!
Even Ren was stunned by this statement. He looked at Yuno in disbelief—so she had cheated the system too?
"Don't doubt it—it's true. But it's probably not as serious as you think. She doesn't seem to have any ill intentions toward you; she's only changing minor things."
"For example, your original fate today was to catch a cold accidentally, but she reminded you to dress warmly. You listened, so you didn't catch a chill or get sick—just that level of change."
"As for why she's doing it, I have no idea."
Seeing Ren's serious expression, Gabriel tried to reassure him. The fates Yuno had altered were all trivial matters, but her motives remained unclear.
"But that's still pretty scary, you know?"
Right now, it's just small changes, but what about the future?
Being able to foresee and alter the future is no joke—who would dare take it lightly?
Ren didn't know how to react. He never expected Yuno to be capable of changing his future.
'System, didn't you say this is a slice-of-life world?'
[Yes, the system has confirmed multiple times—this is indeed a slice-of-life world.]
[Then what about this otaku angel and Yuno who can foresee the future?]
[Is it strange for an ordinary world to have such existences? Does a peaceful world have no weapons? Host doesn't need to worry—this is indeed an ordinary world.]
The logic seemed sound, but was this version of "ordinary" a little too extraordinary?
Ren felt somewhat relieved, yet not entirely.
"Actually, I can only know Ren's future ten minutes ahead, and only Ren's. I call it the Future Diary."
At this point, Yuno proactively explained her ability. Rather than letting Ren grow wary of her, it was better to clarify the situation beforehand.
"I see, so that's how you knew I was going to snitch, but didn't realize I'm an angel. Ten minutes—that's hardly enough time to do much."
Upon hearing this, Gabriel showed an expression of sudden understanding. She had initially thought Yuno was some kind of great power, but if it was only to this extent, then she wasn't much of a threat.
Wait—ten minutes could actually allow for a lot to happen. Ordinary people would still need to be cautious, but she was an angel, so she wasn't afraid.
"A Future Diary related to me?"
Ren grew even more puzzled after listening. What had he done to deserve the world spawning a Future Diary centered around him?
"Yes, perhaps it's a blessing bestowed upon me by the gods. After picking it up, I've been able to observe Ren's life every day. If I notice anything that might harm Ren, I can step in to resolve it."
Of course, the same applied to anything that might harm her. All their previous chance encounters had been carefully orchestrated by Yuno in advance.
"..."
Did that mean he was being spiritually stalked by Yuno every single day?
Suddenly, Ren felt a chill. Even if it was only through text, it was still pretty creepy.
"So, what do you plan to do?"
Gabriel asked Ren how he intended to handle the situation. It wasn't as if Yuno had done anything excessively wrong—she hadn't actually interfered with any major events in Ren's life.
But it was no different from someone holding a sword to Ren's neck. After all, changing a future that was only ten minutes away wasn't exactly difficult, but it wasn't simple either. It was all rather mysterious and unpredictable—caution was necessary.
"Your phone? I'm confiscating it."
Since Yuno hadn't done anything wrong yet, Ren couldn't bring himself to be overly harsh. He decided to start by confiscating her phone.
"That won't work. It seems bound to me—whether it's smashed or thrown into the sea, it always reappears by my side."
Yuno said with an apologetic expression, almost as if she were feigning innocence after gaining an advantage. She had also worried that someone might take the phone and prevent her from observing Ren, so she had conducted some tests and found that the phone would always return to her.
"...Then what exactly do you want? To repay me?"
Ren didn't immediately trust Yuno. He still took the phone and then asked about her intentions.
Someone who could foresee his future and intervene—it was impossible for Yuno to have no motive. But she didn't seem to want to harm him.
"I just want to be with Ren forever. It's a pity someone beat me to it, though. So for now, we're just friends, right?"
Yuno gazed tenderly at Ren, this time not concealing her morbid affection. Just looking at him made her cheeks flush and her body tremble, with faint heart shapes shimmering in her eyes.
"..."
Well, I originally thought Yuno was different from Satou, but it turns out she's also fond of him. Though she appears mentally stable, she's actually drifted far from normalcy.
Ren felt a headache coming on. He couldn't control others' feelings for him, but figuring out how to interact with them properly was challenging.
He had to consider what constituted normal contact, whether Hitori might misunderstand, whether it would cause her pressure, and so on.
"Don't worry about me, Ren. Just do what you want to do. I have no intention of affecting your relationship with Bocchi-chan. All I want now is to stay by your side, even if just as friends."
Of course, only for now~
To avoid troubling Ren, Yuno proactively supported his romance and promised not to interfere with his relationship with Hitori, humbling herself to the extreme.
This was precisely why Ren found it most troubling. He wasn't afraid of someone like Satou who clung persistently, but rather someone like Yuno who loved him yet remained meekly by his side without causing trouble.
Such people easily evoked pity and favoritism. Ren could handle confrontations, but against gentle approaches like this, they were far too difficult to guard against.
