Chapter 62: Humanitarian Care
Verifying whether Satou was lying was actually quite simple. After school in the afternoon, Ren planned to go with Satou to the restaurant where she worked part-time to observe.
Before heading out, he informed Hitori about the situation to avoid any misunderstandings.
Hitori understood completely, saying that if she were in that kind of situation, she'd probably be scared to death.
After explaining clearly, Ren first drove Hitori and the others to Shimokitazawa. Since both Ikuyo and Hitori were in bands, Karen, who was somewhat interested in this, went along with them to hang out at Kessoku Band.
She was even more surprised to discover that Ren actually had his own car. She had originally thought Ren was just handsome, but she didn't expect him to be wealthy too.
Young, rich, and handsome—that's quite the catch.
How exactly did Hitori manage to land Ren?
Karen quietly observed and pondered, feeling very curious about this.
As for Ren, after Hitori and the others got out of the car, he went with Satou and Yuno to the restaurant where Satou worked. They entered separately, with some time between their arrivals.
Satou worked as a waitress, responsible for taking orders and serving food. She said that guy was the cashier who often chatted with her during downtime. Even when Satou clearly couldn't be bothered, he persistently kept trying to talk to her, with obvious attempts to touch her during their conversations.
He had this cocky expression on his face and didn't seem worried about being reprimanded by the manager at all, suggesting he had strong connections.
"Satou, you're really cold to me, you know? What you might not realize is that my uncle is the manager of this place. Waitresses need to smile, otherwise customers will complain. If customers are unhappy or file complaints, your wages could get docked."
When things were quiet at the counter, the male employee who'd been harassing Satou began making threats. Most people working part-time jobs need the money, especially high school students.
So he knew exactly what kind of threats would be most effective. Not just high schoolers—even adults fear having their wages deducted most.
"I'll quit tomorrow."
Satou gave him an impatient look. He really deserved to get cut—how dare he threaten her.
"You can't do that, you need this job, right?~ Actually, I just broke up with my ex-girlfriend recently. How about becoming my girlfriend? I guarantee you won't have to worry about money."
He wasn't worried at all about Satou actually quitting, since finding part-time work isn't easy for high school students.
But he didn't know Satou had backup.
After observing their situation for a while, Ren used the System to check the guy's information.
What he discovered confirmed the guy was truly scum, and this wasn't his first time engaging in such harassment. Several waitresses before Satou had been threatened by him too, all high school girls like Satou who needed money.
After succeeding with them, he'd frequently take them to KTVs to mix with heavy drinkers and various idle people, claiming it was experiencing high society when really he was dragging them into the abyss. Once he got bored, he'd dump them and look for the next target. If any of them dared to cause trouble, his friends would handle it for him.
Time for some humanitarian disposal.
After reviewing some information, Ren furrowed his brow. He equally despised such scum—modern society protected them far too well, otherwise public execution would be too lenient a punishment.
"Ren, there's no need to get angry over someone like that. They're nothing more than creatures inferior to dogs. If this troubles you, I can help take care of him for you."
Noticing Ren's growing anger, Yuno offered comfort while contemplating how to assist him. She was quite adept at handling such matters herself and didn't want Ren's hands stained with blood.
"You're right, there's no point in getting angry over someone like that. But there's no need for your help—I already have a solution in mind."
Taking a deep breath, Ren ignored the male employee. The System had already begun arranging "humanitarian care" for him.
Just as the male employee, frustrated by his failed advances and threats, was about to resort to force, he tripped over some clutter on the floor while stepping forward. Panicked, he tugged on a nearby power strip, tangling it around himself, and knocked over a nearby beverage machine. Drinks and water spilled all over him, flowing into the power strip.
Instantly—sparks flew and electricity crackled—his body stiffened immediately without even a scream. Meanwhile, Satou remained completely unharmed, not even getting the tips of her shoes wet.
Only when other customers noticed the commotion and screamed did she blink, feign a frightened expression, and call the police.
Witnessing this, Yuno widened her eyes and sat up straight. She hadn't foreseen how Ren would resolve this—was it a coincidence? A mere accident? Or a flawlessly executed plan?
Such a method was unheard of, far more sophisticated than anything she had considered doing herself. Yuno was deeply shocked, and Ren now carried an aura of mystery and intimidation in her eyes.
Later, when the police investigated, they concluded it was indeed an accident caused by the man slipping—completely unrelated to anyone in the store.
Satou couldn't figure out how Ren had managed it, but she was overjoyed that he had helped her. Unable to contain her excitement, she impulsively rushed toward him, but Ren dodged her, leaving her pouting with grievance.
"No need to get so worked up. Evil begets evil—today was just his unlucky day."
Ren made no mention of his original intentions, treating it as a fortunate accident unrelated to any of them.
"Mhm~"
They understood without needing it spelled out. There was little fear among them—after all, it was just a death, far less terrifying to Satou and Yuno than the prospect of being distanced by Ren.
"Ren, that teacher messaged me again..."
Before Satou could enjoy her happiness for long, she received a new text message from her former teacher, Daichi Kitaumekawa.
Even though she had blocked him, he kept finding new numbers to contact her. For a mere teacher, he was excessively invested in investigating her life.
Had he been an upright and caring teacher, Satou would have been grateful, but his intentions were far from pure.
"Let's go meet him."
Before deciding to handle this, Ren needed to confirm whether the other person was truly scum.
"Where should we meet?"
"Just pick any café."
It would be best to wrap this up in one day. Ren had Satou arrange the meeting and went to wait for the other person at the café.
