Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: A Sudden Accident

Gently shattered...

Bah!

At the moment when the stone placed in the transparent control box was shattered, an unusual light burst forth that ordinary people couldn't see, but Hawk could.

And at that moment, his Little Cosmos quivered.

It was obvious.

His Little Cosmos was telling him something.

Gammanien—

He found it.

After absorbing the information transmitted by his Little Cosmos, Hawk also understood what Gammanien truly was and couldn't help but let out a silent laugh.

The reason was simple.

Gammanien, to put it plainly, is due to unknown reasons, Gamma Rays that couldn't be stored have transformed into Gamma Rays that can be stored.

This...

is Gammanien.

Mm.

Sounds absurd.

But none of that mattered anymore; what mattered was that Hawk now knew where to find the Gammanien he needed.

Quantico!

The laboratory where Bruce Banner experienced the Gamma Rays explosion.

After leading Hawk in and temporarily acting as the guide was Gwen, who gave Hawk a nudge with her elbow when she saw him staring intently at the shattered stone.

Hawk came to his senses and looked at Gwen.

Clear eyes...

"Hm?"

"What are you thinking about?"

Gwen frowned: "You're not seriously thinking of becoming a monster like Abomination, right?"

She thought of Hawk's previous obsessed look and felt like he was not planning to stay human.

Hawk temporarily suppressed the thought of rushing off to Quantico and shook his head: "How could it be? I was just wondering if Dr. Connor's experiment is about to succeed."

Gwen was about to speak.

At that moment.

Dr. Connor, who had just seen Gwen bringing someone in, walked over, overheard the conversation, and interjected: "Research is a path of constant trial and error, but indeed, I feel we are on the path to success."

Gwen turned to greet Dr. Connor as he approached.

"Doctor."

"Curtis, Curtis Connors."

Wearing the same white coat but with one arm, Connor smiled and extended his left arm towards Hawk: "You are...?"

Hawk looked at Dr. Connor's extended left arm and smiled, extending his own left hand: "Hawk, Gwen's classmate, currently working in the bioelectric engineering department as a summer intern. By the way, I came with Mr. Dillon and asked Gwen if she could show me around, sorry to disturb you, Doctor."

Dr. Connor laughed heartily: "I overheard your conversation with Gwen. Do you really believe my experiment will succeed?"

Hawk smiled and said: "I've read your papers, Doctor. Clearly, if your experiment succeeds, it will certainly benefit humanity."

This wasn't flattery, but fact.

If Dr. Connor's regeneration experiment succeeded, then no one in the world would be disabled anymore.

Of course, this refers to disability in terms of limbs.

That's why Hawk said it would benefit humanity, not all humankind.

But all of this depends on whether Dr. Connor can really create the Regenerative Potion and not end up with the Lizard Serum that turns people into Lizard People.

However...

This is most likely improbable.

Dr. Connor became Dr. Lizard primarily due to the Amazing Spider-Man's warning.

Although the Dr. Connor in front of us looks like the one in the Amazing Spider-Man movie, there is no Amazing Spider-Man here.

There is a Spider Spirit here.

But he's currently working as a summer intern at Horn Daily, unlikely to appear here.

So...

The likelihood of the Dr. Connor here becoming Dr. Lizard isn't really as high as the chance of the Max Dillon repairing things outside turning into Electro next year.

However, Hawk spoke without a leak.

He didn't say whether he believed or not, just that Dr. Connor's experiment, once successful, could benefit humanity.

Dr. Connor was very pleased to hear that, laughed loudly, but then didn't say anything else. Instead, as he left, he said to Gwen: "Gwen, you can introduce your colleague to our current progress."

It's rare for someone to affirm his experiment, and Gwen hasn't been involved in any core technology, the progress is public, and there isn't a risk of any leaks.

Gwen agreed, and after Dr. Connor left, she stood next to Hawk again and whispered: "Do you really think Dr. Connor's experiment will succeed?"

Hawk was watching the staff who had shattered the Gamma Stone walk over to the centrifuge nearby, and hearing this, he looked at Gwen beside him.

Just as he was about to shake his head and say he didn't believe, he seemed to notice something and looked up at the light bulb above.

The light bulb on the lab ceiling flickered quickly.

The next moment.

Bang!

With the burst of the light bulb, the lights in the lab suddenly went out.

"Boom!"

"Thick..."

"Poof!"

With the sudden darkness came the sound of explosions and panicked cries, Hawk instantly felt a pressure heading towards...

Gwen!

Without thinking much, almost instinctively, he stretched out his right hand, blocking Gwen.

"Poof!"

"..."

Hawk felt the pain in his palm, furrowed his sword-shaped eyebrows, and at the same time, the emergency lights quickly came online after the lights went out.

The cold lab, illuminated by the red emergency lights, looked somewhat frightening.

Especially when everyone saw a corpse lying in a pool of blood.

A female experimenter was clutching her throat, which was bleeding profusely, and collapsed near the broken centrifuge, blood bubbling out through her fingers.

Some white mice scurried around on the floor.

"Oh shit!"

"Mia?"

"Jesus Christ."

"Mia!"

Under the red emergency lights, everyone's expressions changed drastically as they witnessed the scene, with some people running outside the lab for help, and others rushing toward the fallen person.

Gwen's gaze fell on Hawk, who had retracted his right hand and placed it behind him.

Her eyes flickered as she turned directly towards Hawk.

"Hand out."

"What?"

Hawk was slightly taken aback.

Gwen said nothing, reached for Hawk's arm, pulled out his right hand, and unclenched it.

In view.

Hawk's right palm was perfectly intact, except for a spot that looked like newly grown skin.

Gwen was stunned.

Hawk smiled, retracting his right hand: "My hand isn't as pretty as yours."

Gwen frowned and said nothing.

At that moment, Osborn's medical staff and security ran in from outside and started clearing the scene.

Taking advantage of the chaos in the lab, Hawk took the dazed Max and left early.

Gwen stood outside the lab, still frowning.

She was sure she hadn't seen wrong.

At the very moment when the light went out, she also clearly felt a pressure in the air rushing towards her, but it left quickly. Yet she saw clearly the droplets of blood that fell the moment the pressure disappeared.

But Hawk's palm was perfectly fine.

Wait.

Gwen seemed to think of something, her eyes lit up, she walked to the lab's doorway and looked at where she had just stood.

On the floor...

On the white floor tiles, several drops of blood were clearly visible!

A tailless white mouse scampered over, sniffed, then seemed to perk up as it began to lap up the droplets of blood.

Shit!

Gwen snapped back to reality and quickly ran inside.
