Hawk understood what Gwen meant.
George almost kicked the bucket because of this case.
But he didn't die.
He finally woke up, and then heard that the cult leader got slapped to death out of nowhere, which might bum him out for a while.
So...
George's case, George wraps it up.
Hawk thought, chuckled, and took the steak tray from Gwen's hand: "I'll follow your lead. You say it, I do it, since you're the most educated in our family."
Gwen was already like Doctor Strange.
And he's about to start summer break, yet the company for his summer internship still hasn't been decided.
Gwen listened to Hawk's teasing, and rolled her eyes at him again.
"But I'll always hope you can help."
"Of course, wherever you point, that's the direction I'll go."
Hawk smiled in response.
He didn't take it to heart.
Just a cult.
Gwen said to leave it to George, so they left it to George.
An hour later.
After dinner, Howard and Simon obediently sat in Hawk's Audi A8 and went to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
No loud talking, no arguing.
Howard and Simon quietly stood by George's hospital bed, looking at him lying there with a tube but not seriously harmed, though still unconscious.
Helen, sitting not far away eating, commented on Gwen's cooking skills.
"Not bad, your cooking's getting better and better."
"That it is!"
Listening to her mom's praise, Gwen proudly lifted her chin like a swan: "I am the daughter of Helen Stacy, the master chef."
Helen looked at her daughter with a face full of pride, smiled, and then looked at Howard and Simon quietly watching their dad: "I used to think these two were quite mischievous, but they're actually quite nice."
Following Helen's gaze, Gwen looked at her two brothers standing quietly hand-in-hand by their dad's side, and smiled: "They're just a little rowdy, but they're actually very behaved."
"It's just that they're not good at studying." Helen nodded in agreement, and then looked back at Gwen: "If their academic talent was even one-tenth of yours, I'd be very satisfied."
Gwen defended her two brothers: "Mom, boys always mature later. Wasn't Hawk quite mischievous at ten?"
Sitting on the side, Hawk, who had remained silent, heard himself being brought into the conversation, paused, and then met Gwen's gaze, blinked, and then looked at Helen, speaking seriously: "Yes, at ten I was quite mischievous, often loudly singing during church services and events."
Helen laughed and said: "You're in the choir, if you don't sing loudly, there'd be a problem."
Hawk, hearing this, looked at Gwen and shrugged.
Gwen, helplessly smiling, looked at Helen: "Mom, you should give Howard and Simon more confidence. If Hawk and I were to have kids in the future, even if they didn't have one-tenth of Hawk's talent, I wouldn't be angry."
Helen chuckled softly at Gwen's confident words, then looked at Hawk.
"Do you believe it?"
"I believe it."
Helen, smiling, pursued: "Really?"
Hawk opened his mouth, met Gwen's gaze, then looked at Helen, who was smiling at him, his expression helpless: "Helen, don't put me on the spot."
One side is the fiancée, the other is the future mother-in-law.
Hawk felt he should be outside, not here.
But...
Already getting what she wants, Helen looked at Gwen in silence.
Gwen gave Hawk an eye-roll, then looked at Helen seriously.
"I'm serious, Mom."
"Hmm, I believe you."
Helen also nodded seriously.
But her smile couldn't be stopped.
After all...
No one understands a mother better than a mother.
Helen looked at her daughter, whom she's most proud of, who got her PhD at twenty, and smiled.
"Just don't complain to me then."
"I won't!"
Gwen declared firmly.
She's so smart.
Hawk's also so smart.
Their love's crystallization, no matter how bad, should at least have one-tenth of Hawk and her combined traits, right?
Ninety-nine points from her, plus one point from Hawk, even one-tenth, that's still ten points.
Yes.
Not bad!
Gwen thought to herself.
Helen then smiled, looking at Hawk: "So, have you decided, do you want a son or a daughter then?"
Hawk, with a smile, looked at Gwen: "As long as it's Gwen's, I love it."
He's already been tricked once, firmly not wanting to be tricked a second time.
Hawk doesn't want to be part of this game between his future mother-in-law and fiancée.
Besides, he's speaking the truth.
As long as it's their child with Gwen, whether boy or girl, as long as Gwen loves them, he loves them.
If Gwen doesn't love them, neither will he.
Gwen, smiling brightly, looked at Hawk, then at Helen: "One daughter, two sons, that's what Hawk and I have agreed upon."
Helen raised her eyebrows, instantly knowing where her daughter got this configuration from.
She smiled.
"Nice."
"I think it's great too."
Gwen responded with a smile.
Hawk and Gwen stayed in the ward with Howard and Simon until nine o'clock before taking Howard and Simon back to the apartment.
After returning from visiting their dad at the hospital, the two little ones obediently washed up and went to bed.
Hawk and Gwen then entertained Detective Mahoney and Detective Hale, who came back from visiting George at the hospital, in the living room.
