Chapter 17 - Cursed Children 2

The sound of shrill screeching fills his ears.

The three "things" are observing and approaching him slowly

.

Seeing the sight in front of him Sunny came to one conclusion.

"They are children." He whispered to himself.

Each one was as big as his entire leg. Their beaks are still dull and they have no real talons.

He could easily kill all of them. They were probably the weakest creature in this entire region of the dreamrealm.

They looked vaguely avian, like an abstract version of a nightmare .

His trauma of birds still lingered, he would gladly kill them, but there was something stopping him from it.

'This is a nest.' He thought with dread lingering in his consciousness.

'How could I have overseen this?' He questioned himself in panic.

The dark sea is going to rise and I have no chance to relocate. And the parent of these abominations might return in the near future.

Worst of all, the attention of the bird spawns was still on him. He had to hide, to go unnoticed for one night. Tho avoid the wrath of whatever was inevitably coming for him.

Some birds, even before the descend of the nightmare spell were able to locate humans based on smell. A nightmare creature of high rank would certainly be able to track humans even better.

And the blood of one's child was perhaps the easiest thing to track him by.

Activating his aspect a yellow eye materialized itself on the back of his hand. Peering far away, to sky and falling sun, a black dot could be seen.

The distance He could observe was astounding, growing farther with every fragment, but the dot was still so small.

'At this distance it will need atleast another two hours, maybe three hour to arrive here. The sea will drown the environment in about an hour.' He thought to himself.

"Damnation"

in the next second sparks of light drifted in the air, a long halbert appearing in his hand.

After raising it in the air he slashed down with it, hitting the carapace husks of the nest.

With a loud and much strain on his body, Sunny managed to broke part of the nest before sliding down the small mountain.

His perspective shifted again as the eye on his hand relocated to his weapon.

The pressure of time was weighing heavy on him as he made a decision.

The sight of a scavenger was cought by him when still on the mound. And he quickly made his way to him, keeping as much distance to the coral walls as possible.

Not long after descending he managed to arrive next to the scavenger. He did not mask the sound of his steps so it already rushed to him.

The approaching claw of the scavenger phased through his halbert as both of them barely avoided a fatal attack.

Just one well prepared attack could be the cause for their respektive death.

But unlike the scavenger, Sunny could not attack as persistently.

He dodged the next few attacks , the claw breaking parts of the wall and causing debris to fill onto them.

Due to the proximity to the wall Sunny had to already disperse his aspect ability. But seeing one opportunity he acted.

The transparent tread of [puppeteer string] bound itself to both a huge falling piece of corral and the ceiling.

Expecting the next attack, Sunny leaped under the pincer, rolling on the ground between the scavengers leg, his weapon laying abandoned on the ground.

The overgrown crab turned to him, launching another attack. Only this time it did land. The invisible string connected to coral drew tight at the sudden force used on it and launched the bound piece of coral directly onto its back.

Cracking of chitin and smashing of flesh, combining into a horribly harrowing sound as it was swallowed by the spell.

[You have slain an awakened beast: carapace scavenger]

Sunny quickly picked up his halbert and hit it another time. He reached the soul shard, broke it and mentally prepared for the following.

In a spark of light he suddenly lay bare, his amore disappearing before he entered the corpse. Bathing every part of his body in blood, mucus and flesh was disgusting. It felt disgusting.

The scent of blood was now clinging to him, tightly. He hoped it would overpower his own and mix with the stench of the nest when hiding inside it.

On the way back to the nest he encountered nothing.

"Even the other creatures are afraid of it. After all it's a fallen creatures nest. Only an absolute fool would ever dare to come close to it." He said while climbing up the nest.

The beast would still take a while to arrive but he Sunny quickly entered the hole of carapace he opened not too long ago.

The exoskeleton was clinging loosely onto him, it's cold, rough surface felt like it was piercing him.

But the pain could not compare to the anticipation and fear he felt right now.

Not long after the crashing of waves felt the serenity of night, and not long after that the whipping of wings overtones the rhythmic sound of waves.

The fallen creature lay its first pair of legs onto the nest, slightly pushing down the structure of it.

He did not even breath, cold sweat flowing down his face as he heard screeching followed by regurgitation and the messy consumption of said regurgitated food.

'It did not notice me.' He though hopefully.

Carapace, both chitinous and metal like groaned under the weight of the creatures. The pressure ever increasing.

An alarmed thought crossed his mind:

'If it steps above me... will it break?'

He did punch away part of the nest. It would have damaged its integrity, reducing the weight it could support.

To his luck it did not do such thing. As for now.

Time passed slowly while the mother was feeding its spawn. Every second felt like an eternity.

Even his breath was growing strained, both because of his mental situation and the lack of oxygen in his limited chamber.

Since there was still air flow he would not die, but the limited oxygen could cause mental deterioration and in the worst case even brain damage.

Thought could grow slower in such situations but that would not be bad in his case. Too many thought combined with fear will lead to panic, wich he could not afford right now.

'As it seems even nightmare creatures need sleep.' He thought to himself after silence overtook his surroundings.

Well it was not entirely quiet. Next to the waves there still was the groaning of the nest. It sounded as if those beast were either rolling in their nest or just breathing really heavy.

After listening for a bit he was certain they were rolling in the nest.

'How could they sleep and roll on such sharp amore pieces?' In his mind he already answered this question. They were all of atleast the awakened rank, they just could.

But instead of worrying for the birds he should have worried for the nest. Just in the next few minutes did the fallen parent fall on a particulary weak spot of the nests support.

The heavy being pushes down the broken parts of the nest under his weight.

Sunny was being crushed. Sharp and dull pieces of chitin and metal were being pressed down on him under the weight of the beast. Even his amore would give up under such pressure.

Thankfully he was able to unsummon parts of his amore.

Without thinking much, amore pieces around his throat disappeared, letting him crawl through them to the outside.

The act of breaking part of his nest did not wake the beast, but the sudden illumination of it did.

Still have asleep it opened his eyelids. A little, scrawny shadow lay before him.

'Food?' It thought with a barely awake mind.

The silhouette of whatever was before him was to same to pose any tread. So it only thought if food presented itself infront of him.

It did not even consider awakening just to kill it. The being infront if him was simply to weak, not even awakened.

This sentiment faded when a configration light illuminated the surroundings.

It almost instantly awoke, talons getting ready to strike. Even If the creature was weak, the light could attract monsters beyond comprehension.

'Need to ki-' It thought before the strike of the weakling missed him.

Why was it awake again, it asked itself. Then it saw the creature infront of him.

A scrawny, small silhouette with a long stick in his hands was infront of him. The strange part around the view was a faint glow of orange-yellow light coming from it.

But what did it matter, food was infront of it, it had to kill.

Before getting familiarized with the situation a strike almost hit him.

Then a sensation filled his drowsy world. There was a bit of pain on his leg, a small piece of his nest was stuck inside its leg.

Looking a bit up it saw a scrawny silhouette before him. Faint yellow light illuminated surroundings. The figure rose a stick up in the air, just to swing it down. It would not have hit him, but it still blocked, sending it's talons to intercept the attack.

The handle of the weapon broke, but the heavy metal of it still hit the ground with to much force for its smal remains.

Then it wondered why it was even awake. 'It's night, why am I awake?' It thought .
