Faye's POV
The certainty that my days of peace had ended refused to leave me alone.
Hours had crawled by since the Northern Outpost soldiers had dropped to their knees before me, voices rising in unison as they offered their gratitude like I had single-handedly rescued them from death itself. Yet those moments already seemed like a distant memory. The intensity of their gazes clung to me, more suffocating than the dungeon walls that had once imprisoned me. My mind found no rest.
"You planning to step outside anytime soon?" Selena inquired, extending a glass of water toward me.
I accepted the drink, drained it completely, then returned the empty glass while settling back against the headboard. "I'm alright here." Hardy had instructed me to remain within the cabin walls until his return, and surprisingly, I felt no urge to defy him this time.
